    Honestly, I'll get this to use at home. I cook for one and this is perfect for a few chicken tenders or a piece of fish.
    Nice video, as usual, thanks!

    I'm glad to hear you say it un-nerves you!!! Me too.
    Over the years, I've deep fried outdoors more than a few times. Sketchy for sure.
    The oil can get to flash point so quickly. You have to watch it like a hawk and never do it near your tarp/tent, etc, just in case.
    I've learned only to deep or shallow fry over dim or dying coals. Yes, it takes longer, but you get to keep your eyebrows.
    I prefer to roast over coals these days. If I really, really, want deep fried chicken etc, I go to Jollibee or KFC.
    Thanks for the video.

    Andy, I'd highly recommend getting a "Hero" Fire 🔥 Blanket. They're small and for all kinds of fires INCLUDING Kitchen fires. You can easily have it right there next to you... at the ready... for Deep Frys or ALL COOKING Indoors or Outside anywhere. Also they don't leave a mess like Fire Extinguishers do.. A Fire Extinguisher in your car is SECONDS to long away from an actual fire, especially with that amount of Oil being used. And especially true in any kind of Dry or Windy conditions. I ❤ the idea of that Deep Fryer! That would be GREAT👍 for Fishing Trip Catch N Cooks! A small Fish N Chips anywhere, anytime - Gotta love❤ that!

    Andy. This challenge had me thinking. I never take a mess tin out with me, the only cookware I have is a canteen cup which limits me to ‘stews’… could you do a canteen cup challenge where you cook for example a full English in it? You’re the master of outdoor cooking…

    I certainly wouldn't fry over a gas stove in the woods, i understand you have a lot of experience cooking in woods.
    Would a potion of pasta or vegetables fit in the basket for boiling?
    Love to watch your videos even though i think my camping days are over.

    Love the kit tests you do. Been looking for someone who's tested the Winnerwell gasifier folding cooker/firepit, any chance?
    Would couple cheap tent pegs / bamboo skewers work to support draining the basket? I used a decently sturdy takeaway foil container, punched loads of holes and cut n folded sides down for legs to make a steamer bed. Turn it upside down and takes no space up in the tin so my small folding gas or trangia or hexa-bcb cookers fit in .

    We used to use chip pans all the time donkeys years ago. If a chip pan catches fire never use anything other than a damp cloth to put it out. Put it on top to cover it and leave it alone for as long as it takes to cool down. DO NOT be tempted to lift the damp cloth up to check because it will reignite.

      Well, I'm not Andy, but I'm currently enjoying a nice cup of Kenyan tea with milk. Assam is commonly my daily driver. Yesterday and the day before, I was on the Darjeeling with lemon and a touch of sugar. I am also a fan of, in no particular order, Lapsang souchong, rose oolong, earl grey (occasionally) ceylon tea, various white and green teas, and... oh who am I kidding? I like all teas including a few blends of my own creation.

      I tried to wear the tea cosy as a hat when i was 2 oblivious to the teapot full of boiling tea underneath......burns and skin grafts ensued (I have absolutely no memory of this apart from the scars) but I still love a good brew.....having said that I'd also be wary of deep frying over gas in an open pan I remember the chip pan fire ads on telly lol

    I saw the other video. My question is:- are you going to use these items and accessories on a regular basis or are these items a waste of money not to be used and unseen for the duration? How often is someone on a camping hike going to make triple cooked chips? You would boil water in the mess tin rather than the kettle that holds one cup of water. You would boil water in a water bottle cup that comes with the bottle and use that as a mini mess tin for simple camp food like pasta, rice, soup, and stew

    Nice setup - but definitely a no, from a safety point of view. If you camp where there are other people around, there is always a risk even if you are careful. I remember an occasion when a child jumped over a stove which was in use at the time.

    Every time I watch wild camping videos and they're cooking reindeer liver or whatever on a wooden skewer and eating it with an 8 inch blade I always think 'why not just cook some chips?' It'd be much nicer than this hardcore bushcraft stuff.

    Mess tins are the ideal backpacking cook kit.
    However, I'm not sure having to carry around the amount of cooking oils/fat to make this work would be practical when weight is a factor. Plus, having to wait for said oils/fat to cool down before moving off.
    Thanks for the video. It's excellent as always, but I will give this item a miss 😀

    i worked as a relief chef, i travelled to other pubs, and allowed the chef / manager to have a full day off out of the kitchen
    ... anyway, one kitchen had a really really old gas deep fat fryer. like , big, deep oil wells, heated by gas. scary old kitchen !!
    so, yea, dont do this, never ever ever heat oil in an open container like this over an open gas flame. its so dangerous, "chip pan fires" killed thousands in england in the past

    I don't use seed oils anyway (they're carcinogenic) but beef dripping and lard have a higher flash/smoke point, making them a bit safer to fry with (and taste tons better) I use beef dripping in my deep fat fryer at home (ignore all the BS warnings against doing so) best chips you'll ever have (and better for you than seed oils)

    • @justinsane11
      @justinsane11 12 годин тому

      There's zero evidence that seed oils are carcinogenic.

    • @peterbradburn9115
      @peterbradburn9115 10 годин тому

      Why do you mean by seed oils?

    • @trooperwolfie
      @trooperwolfie 10 годин тому

      @peterbradburn9115 rapeseed oil, sunflower seed oil, canola oil, vegetable oil etc, they're extremely bad for you, same with margarine, which contains seed oils.
      Lard, beef dripping (tallow) goose fat, Butter etc are much better for you, seed oils were pushed on consumers as "healthy" after WWII because in Britain, rapeseed had been grown purely as engine lubricant for tanks, aircraft etc (yes...your cooking your food in engine/lubricating oil if you use seed oils)
      If your veggie/vegan you are better using coconut, avocado or palm oil which are far healthier than seed oils. I hope that helps 👍🏻
