That's a curse of theirs that goes ways back. I remember when they had special versions of toyotas with their own badges from the performance brand that modifies them. They never tried to make a grocery getter overly sporty because it's a grocery getter. Today they'll put any model to undergo modifications even when its fugly. Like the Avalon and Camry. Those cars absolutely do not need to go near TRD or TOM'S
I'm a bit surprised that a car carrying a 'Sport' theme is only available with the 1.8 litre unit. We have just taken delivery of a CHR 'Design' variant here in the UK and I ordered the optional 2 litre unit.
I own a 2021 gr sport hybrid and I noticed the stiffer ride and handling . The suspension , bigger wheels and centre bracing have changed it to a fun car. I had a 2020 limited chr hybrid and it was like a boat. Not stable . But I am puzzled too as to why this car has basic spec for the limited pricing . And I miss my parking sensors and 360 camera from my limited. This is just cost cutting Toyota .
Better question is... how is this GR yet there's a boring engine with hybrid? Why not a real GR with a 1.6 3 cyl turbo doing 300hp on an AWD drivetrain? Oh but GR only does manual... and CHR drivers can't drive manual. How condescending of Toyota!
I used to hate the look of these when they came out. After the mid life face lift they have grown on me. Shame don't get the 2L hybrid would be a better package
GR Sport is to Toyota but shouldn't be confused with Yaris GR-FOUR, as R-Line is to Volkswagen but it's not a Golf R, or as N-Line is to Hyundai but it's not an 130N or a Veloster N. GR Sport is no more than a mild visual and handling upgrade over the entry level model. A GR-FOUR C-HR would be wicked though.
It looks as though someone got a discount on GR badges/stickers on EBay. Also the front bumper and wheels don’t seem to suit the cars styling. Koba definitely looks better.
My sister just picked up her brand new Koba hybrid the other day:- black over white. I encouraged her to that model as it is a Toyota, and about the size and type she was after. In a couple of years I might purchase a used example to replace my 2012 Corolla sedan. Used models are presently so rare (in hybrid) that it would have costed nearly as much as a new one, if she actually found one. I'm baffled that they're aimed at the young market, yet have 'turbo' written all over them. That makes its insurance costs excessive for them.
Toyota, please give us a real GR CHR and put that 1.6L 3 cyl turbo 300hp engine in for us please. Also a really good DCT or manual or even a strong automatic transmission would suffice.
other than the gr yaris toyota havnt really made another proper gr version of a car yet. the gr corolla might be the next one to get the proper treatment.
I got excited when I saw Toyota was bringing out a new version. I like the c-hr styling but it’s let down by the terrible engine. It’s complete useless in regional areas. It’s still a no from me.
.................This thing lol I've been driving a KOBA AWD as a work car for the last year, 2019 build model. For that money on the GR you're downgrading in almost every way. Take the money you would spend on this and get a range topping KOBA.
'CHR Identity Crisis'. Seems the GR label was totally irrelevant? Weird. Personally not a big fan of the 'wedgie' looks of the modern Toyotas. Prefer the rounder styling of most competitors. Love that 'small curry hooks in the boot'. I love a curry. EDIT: So the car industry releases all these cross over SUVs with stilt tax - THEN adds lowering springs? What? I feel we are being duped somehow.
The most disappointing car I have ever driven, this car looks so fast standing still, overseas there are different engines which they should have brought to Australia and CVT gearbox when oh when are Toyota going to stop using them and the other problems no rear ventilation and standard all wheel drive would be good and sound deadening required or supplied ear plugs to cut out road noise, it really is a pity in my personal opinion as it really is a great looking car and concept.....
@@jeeves6490 i cant remember the first 8-10 years, but except the usual stuff like brakes and suspension coil springs, there wasnt much else, not really expensive at least. Last and this year, we did spend some larger amount of money, changing the clutch, some other part I cant remember right now, getting rid of the rust and getting it re-painted. I mean it is a 14yo with 300k km. Engine still pulls really well for a 120 hp 1.9 jtd and I can go 1000 km with a single tank of gas, even more if youre a careful driver, but ofc I like flooring it, its just fast enough. And even after 14 years of it being in the family, I still look back after parking it :)
The door bins are flexible so you can fit larger things if you need to!
I feel they shouldn't dilute the GR brand and just keep the name as the performance only cars.

If ever a car needed a sunroof, it’s like a cave in there
Nice to meet you from Japan! I'm also in C-HR GR. It's a very good car! But recently, a small SUV jarice cross is sold!

I hope they put the Yaris GR drivetrain in this this one day 😬
The Yaris GR is the real machine. The CHR can't compare.
Loving that phrase 'while your down there'
It's clear, it's all about the appearance, no more. For that, it`s a very beautiful crossover.
Exactly, just some additional styling bits. Same car as regular trim. Didn’t need a 13min video to explain that 👎🏽
Come on Toyota if it wears the GR badge, then stick a GR powertrain in it.

Why didn't Australia get the euro spec gr chr
I have the US one, we got a 144hp front wheel drive only, cheap little daily. Would love to see Toyota make it 4wd with the 2L
It has the styling of a vehicle that should offer manual at least as an option.
Where can I find those brake calipers for my chr Gr sport? In European edition they come with different ones.
Infotainment screen looks a bit Fisher-Price.
Better looking but without a manual gear box and engine to suit it's all rather embarrassing, good reviews as always 👍
It looks as though someone got a discount on GR badges/stickers on EBay. Also the front bumper and wheels don’t seem to suit the cars styling. Koba definitely looks better.
"... has someone bought this at a discount on Parramatta Road?" hahahahahaha!!! I can't deal!
This or a Kona N-Line awd?
Love the look. Wish we could get this in the US. Perhaps the bodykit can be fitted to a US spec C-HR?
Almost certainly

Better off buying a corolla or a Camry sedan or hatch can't see paying extra for most SUV's has any advantage for the vast majority of Australians .
Finally a nice wheel design from Toyota
All looks and no go. If it was all wheel drive, have a manual option, little more power, then it can live up to the GR name.
Best car analogy of all time!

I don’t like the idea they us GR for anything than full on sports with more powerful engine. Don’t water the badge down.
Definitely not my cup of tea....moving on.... Thank you for enlightening me with yet another informative review.
I like it but as others said GR doesn’t belong on this model.
So it's all show and no go. Why bother?
Yeah. If you care about go, better to wait for the inevitable GR SUV.
I missed the chapter function....
Is this in America
Umm......yeah! Can't you tell by his accent 😜?
America recently switched over to driving on the left of the road....
I’m sorry but it’s not really sporty at all. CVT’s are not sporty. In my opinion
Fair

Toyota already watering down the GR branding.
