Rebecca Jackson reviews the 2021 Toyota C-HR in GR Sport trim to see if this strikingly styled hybrid crossover can also be fun to drive. When powered by the 2.0-litre petrol hybrid drivetrain of this test car, the C-HR GR Sport has 181bhp and can get from 0-62mph in 8.2 seconds.
In this CarGurus UK video, Rebecca assesses the C-HR for interior practicality and quality, boot space, equipment and safety, as well as considering the handling and styling upgrades that come from the GR trim level.

got this vehicle as a company car only temporary and I must say that I am sold what a lovely vehicle to be honest I’ve only ever had German high-end vehicles but this one really does take the biscuit I’m so impressed with how easy and enjoyable is to drive

My son bought a 2018 with the standard 2.0 liter. His first car. I’m very impressed, overall with the CHR. For an entry-level car it’s impressively quiet with a raft of safety equipment. Compared to my first car (in the late 70’s), it’s a luxury sport sedan! It’s perfect for my 17yo son. Economical with many safety aids and practical load space. By today’s standards it’s not fast, but extremely practical and pretty comfortable. Kids don’t know how good they have it these days. 😁👍

We got 7.03 seconds 0 to 60 when tested in our Orange Edition 2.0 litre Hybrid. Put the car in Sport mode, gear to the right and don't hold the brake like you do launch control in other cars, just floor it and off you go. 😁

Had my Orange edition for just over a year and am very pleased with it.
It's only the wife and I in the car so lack of rear space is not an issue for us.
Bought initially for the Hybrid tech, great modern looks and all the safety features.
Just waiting for Toyotas full EV to appear now.

I have a dark grey CHR GR 2021, and I'm very happy with it. They only downside I could think of is the very 2004-ish built-in nav/media system. Any cheap IPad is better than that. I use wireless Apple carplay dongle, and its OK with that.

And when I explained, he mellowed somewhat, as he was a Toyota salesman from our local garage. Sod the back seats I'd have them folded down flat and why, because I'd use it as a campercar, so that extra space comes in handy when out in the high country.
Overall the 1.8 ltr would suit me as at my age I'm not a race fanatic zipping along country roads.
And its got an unusual shape that is to me appealing, so yes Rebecka I'd have one as its a Hybrid.

One thing that I find irrelevant are the 0-60 mph times. How often do you go from a stop to 60 mph? Would it not be more relevant to state the 0-20 mph or 0-40 mph times? or even the 60-80 mph (for passing) times? as this is more in line with most peoples driving habits.

When are Toyota going to get their interiors sorted out? That infotainment is like something out of the Ark..
Although they have a great reliability the prices are too high now.. I looked at the RAV4 phev but at over £50,000 for that interior I couldn't begin to consider it... I'm going to have to look at the Tesla model 3 and impressive as it is I won't be getting the space and versatility that I could have had with the RAV4...

This is a good car and easy to drive but has one big problem which was introduced in the 2021 model - Toyota have now introduced a very loud pedestrian alert noisemaker which I can hear from at least 100 meters from my house as my wife drives home. It’s a shame as other hybrid electric cars, which also have a similar system, are much quieter - I appreciate the need to have this but it is so loud. I spoke to the dealer and they admitted that when they first took delivery of the 2021 models they thought all their batch of new cars had a problem with their gearboxes which was what I originally phoned them to ask about. Unfortunately they can’t turn the sound down and it is illegal to remove the speaker.

For me the downside that really annoys me is the cheap sound of the doors closing, specially after comparing the built quality with a Lexus UX. it simply is not acceptable that hollow cheap sound when closing the front doors in a Toyota.

I don't know why she said the interior of this car is better than Nissan. The interior of the new Qashqai is more sophisticated in my opinion. Also I don't like the 2008 because of too much excessive silver inside and out which makes it less sophisticated again.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that would like to share the back seat with Rebecca 😉

Shutting the door at 5:36 sounded very tinny and cheap.

Rebecca does a thorough review. Her beauty helps offset the second ugliest vehicle on the road, with the Honda Civic Sr being the worst. Kona with the 1.6L turbo and I.R.S. will out handle and out accelerate this while costing less.

I find this car's exterior to be too ugly to buy, do like the interior and the back seats fold down nice and flat.
