I'm liking it. Thank you. Albeit, concerning being THAT drummer... When I was ten, they gave me a wood hoop with two sides, the primary being the batter side. Accompanying the wood hoop with a batter side, they gave me me two sticks and said, "Hit the batter side!" And, ever since they've said, "Not so loud!" I'm 67 now, or will be in July, and I'll play as loudly and obnoxiously as I dern well please. Moreover, I can now afford to.
Thanks, Quincy, for taking the time to make these amazing videos. Those paradiddle-diddle exercises are so good; definitely going to take them for a spin!
GREAT LESSON!!! I use these same diddle exercises with my students. I then have them add flams and doubles as well as buzz notes on all accents. Then we start applying these exercises to marching tenors and tonal bass drums. Also makes for very interesting exercises on Malletts over scales and arpeggio exercises. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!! Always keep your students on their toes!
I need to contact with my doctor to check if additional brain cooling system is needed before i start this workout. Let's aim for a year ahead to nail this. Beutifully explained. Thank you. Is there still an option to download the notifivation for free?
This is weird. I was just thinking about how I needed a good exercises for paradiddles, a la accent displacement. Couldn't have come at a better time! Thanks Quincy!
Thank you for all your postings. Would you like to share a video about playing a jazz theme on the snare, then on the kit ? (phrasing, stickings, dynamics?...) I'm thinking of Moose the Moche in Drums around the Corner for instance, or Kenny Clarke's introductions to Now's the Time. Would be great to hear your conceptions and diddles in that context !
excellent camera angle & exaggerated accents. Dark tips a big help in showing stick heights. Liked you in Canada , too. Guess you replaced Ed Soph on his retirement.
I really enjoyed your concert at Smalls jazz club in May! ...my curiosity: how did you tune the snare drum? What tension did you feel on both skins? 👍👍💥
One of my favorite lessons, thanks Q! ... Do you have a lesson for single strokes? I'm an old guy that stopped playing for almost 20 years. Two years back at it, and my jazz feel and comping are sounding decent but I realized my old way of soloing relied heavily on single strokes. I've used that deficit to learn to use better doubles, and diddles... But I'd love to get my single strokes back to strength. Any suggestions? Thanks again.
Hi Quincy, this is a great lesson. While working through it I noticed that there might be a mistake in the pdf. Paradiddle w/BD Exercise 4, in the last measure, the “a”(uh) of beat 1 should start on a left not a right. Also, in the Paradiddle-Diddle exercise 2, the next to last measure is marked with a “t” under beat 2, which I’m certain should be an “r”. Thanks! FP
Thanks as always Quincy I know this isn’t related to todays video but I’ve always wondered when to ‘drop bombs’ during comping. Correct me if I’m wrong but is it a combination of playing in the space where the soloist isn’t playing, providing the soloist with ideas and repeating what the soloist is playing? Is there more to it or have it got it all wrong. Of course I know that leaving space is fine and it doesn’t always have to be filled but it’s that essentially how it works? Thanks as always!
Quincy these are awesome. Thank you for sharing these. This is such a great subject. A quick point: #4- Paradiddle w/BD... the sticking for the last measure with the Paradiddle beginning on the "ah" is incorrect. I just went through it and also watched you play it correctly. Check it out. The whole last measure should be: [ r r B l r l l r l r r l r l l r ] Thanks again Quincy!!
I agree. This guy is a horrible teacher. Not sure why 30k subscribers have chosen to watch his lessons because they’re super not helpful. Right on Matthew!
@@drumqtips hey Q 99% of the teachers wouldn't have even bothered to reply to this guy but you did and took the high road. (Loved the sarcasim.) I however don't have to... the guy is a dick. He probably gave himself the one thumbs up. I have some ideas of what Mr Capps can do with his thumb and it has nothing to do with traditional grip! Keep up the great work Q! ✌️🥁
I think that would be great. I vote yes Quincy
Nice job quincy....yes clean strokes.
Not only you are a bad ass drummer, but you are an awesome teacher man. I appreciate ya!
Thank you!

Thanks Quincy! Years ago I worked on this type of thing and it would fit right in to some of the stuff I'm working on today.

As a drummer with very little interest in theory your videos give me reason to want to learn it . Much love from socal!
Great to hear Carlos!

I actually didn't tune the drums at all at Smalls🤫. LOL! Thanks for watching Roberto.
@@drumqtips 😂
What is the count the number of notes you are playing with each hand? And how are you counting them out loud?
You'll be able to see that in the free PDF hopefully. Thanks for watching!

Definitely try to start to use more diddles. It will smooth out your playing. Cheers!

Yeah man! These videos are really great. So clear and focused. I'm wondering how many hours it takes to record and paste together! thank you!
Hi Quincy I can’t seem to find the pdf for this great lesson, displacement of the diddle, bit like how I’m feeling, cos I can’t find the sheet!😢😅
Let me check on that.
Ahhhhhhhh uhhh uhhhhhhhhh ohhhh double left! So funny. Love this channel.

Hey Ben. Good question. Check out my video on comping like Blakey, Art Taylor and Elvin. I believe I talk about that a bit. Thanks!
