Currently creating the empire of slavia and my realm is 40,000 strong. I can muster roughly 100,000 in allies. Throughout my save I’ve made sure the Byzantines are very strong along with other European rulers. When the Mongols reach me in about 30 years our battle will be legendary.
did a very similiar thing but when temujin reached me i was in a critical realm situation, facing the demands of a desolution faction twice the size of my military (my whole military consisted of like 60k troops) so i declared war on him in an epic last stand and forced my way through his lands, finally winning the war after i won the siege of karakorum and after his armies crushed the dissolution faction armies(i faced another dissolution faction a few years later and the whole empire of slavia got destroyed, gg)
I did a Varangian Adventure to Mongolia and became Greatest of Khans in one of my last games. Now I want to try to optimize it so I can conquer the whole world in one life.
@@PerfectAlibi1 True, but making your way through Africa would be so time consuming. So many small states you have to go through even with the mongol invasion cb.
@@DIFB Tell me about it... I had to do that in my current run for the achievement. Right now in my current playthrough, I have 90k to the Mongols 75k. They are overpowered because (a) the AI can only send a few troops against them and not mobilise like in a crusade (b) they conquer faster than the AI can send troops to defend (c) if you are far away you can't stop them without cheesing.
Well, since the Mongols are to Crusader Kings what the various end-game crises are to Stellaris, it makes sense that they should be scary to go up against if you're unprepared
I managed to white peace rather quickly through the following (as supersized Eastern Rome but for any large empire) 1. MOUNTAIN TERRAIN ALWAYS. Like with the Seljuks it ruins their horses offense while giving you a nice defense. 2. Holy orders. I had four potential options but only needed Holy Sepulchre. Given the leader probably has a buff against hostile faiths they are really useful 3. Archer and pike Men At Arms. These guys are like machine guns with the defensive bonus, max them out 4. Varangians but any mercs with pikes and heavy infantry to further boost defense I did get lucky Genghis only had mobilized half his army near me but hopefully this is useful
The Mongols are extremely powerful especially if you have the misfortune of being their first target. Was once playing as the restored Roman Empire and never knew there was a county out in Mongolia part of my empire and when the Mongols appeared they declared war on me and brought the full force of their horde down on me, forty thousand troops they brought against my over seventy thousand, in Anatolia with skilled commanders and I still couldn't beat them in full on fight.
imo the mongols being 'super' powerful is honestly fitting because the mongols, in a relatively short period. conquered a large sum of land and utterly shattered kingdoms and empires in their wake prior to the collaspe. which is mostly accurately represented in game. and honestly its incredibly easy to deal with. unless you don't like building an army that functions within the current combat system (which could still use tweaks because super buffing one unit type to a point that it crushes everything. especially if the unit type covers an already powerful special unit like the cataphract or varagian guard) or just well, cloak and dagger and just assassinating the khan the very moment he's in diplo range (and this does include just sending a plagued individual into his court, heck if possible offering one as their cocubine will knock them out immediately) well, at that point its just hoping the a.i does precisely what I mentioned (especially upset subjects after being conquered, not uncommon for them to just give the khan the finger and try to assassinate him)
I mean, in my current playthrough where I just completed "mother of us all" achievement. An Islamic Temujin is bordering my 60k army with his 60k army right at Jerusalem (which is part of the Kingdom of Egypt ruled by my vassal)... XD
Great vid, definitely some ideas I hadn't thought of - I'm doing an 867 run building the empire of Siberia prepping for the Mongols. I role play so I'll go with whatever strategy suits my character at the time, but some great food for thought here. Great video liked and shared.
Thought I'd give an update: intrigue was a no go (at first) as even with buffed intrigue stats the success chance stayed at 5 percent, so it was fight or die the old fashioned way, war. They are by far the most tenacious adversary I've ever faced. First war was pretty straightforward, I had a large enough empire that I was able to let them occupy a lot of my territory while I simply used 150 onagers to carve a path to take their capital quickly. Second war three years later was frustrating, I tried the same strategy but unfortunately they'd upgraded to mangonels while I was stuck with onagers so the war score ping ponged back and forth for six years until finally I got them to accept a white peace. Then the first Khan died and his son inherited the 30K horse archers and the dance began again, honestly it was like reloading a save, except my character was elderly with an heir whose martial skill was less than encouraging. I was forced to fall back on the old intrigue and murder strategy to kill the Khan and his son, then grandson, to bring about the collapse of the Mongol Empire. It was fun but disappointing to have to fall back on intrigue which is not my preferred way to play. If I had to do it over again I'd really double down on military especially siege warfare as that is what killed my chances this run, the Mongols were simply able to siege down my territory faster than I could theirs, plus due to their -50 percent army costs they were able to keep their massive army raised longer than I could, and they'd inevitably send it after my speedy little siege force and simply wipe me out. It's a testament to how fun it all was though that now i simply want to start a new game and try this all again. Thanks again for the video it was helpful.
In my dutch tall play I stack wiped 40k mongol with just around 10k troops, 4 fully buffed Gendarmes (got up to 300sth damage), 2 crossbow regiments and knights at 4-500% effectiveness. Their empire collapsed after this battle 😅

Let us know how you go with this, I'd be keen to hear. I ask because I recently tried a similar strategy with mixed results. Keen to hear about your results.
Currently playing as the Archduchy of Austria....or should I say the Khanate of Austria? Since the Mongol Empire just invaded and destroyed the HRE. Living that vassal life.
Well, i was not aware that this event were in the game. I started in 1066 as croatie, wating for a crusade to take the mesopotamian kingdom and to rule my custome empire. When it's happened, 20 years later, the Khan attacked at my border with 40k troops (me 20k) and rading in a month or less each county it passed through. How is not overpowered ? I don't see how it's possible to counter that (I have no DLC).
60k troops is still ridiculous. Even hre or Roman Empire doesn't have that many troops. Even Papacy. Special army is a broken aspect of this game and I stand by this. Haesteinn's special army is op too. I remember taking Rome at the start of the game.
Imo, the ME is both too strong and too weak, you either get crushed straight away or you curb stomp them. I wish there were more crisis on the game, even if its not historically accurate.
