PLEX TUTORIAL: Tips For Organizing "Home Movies" or Misc. Videos using Playlists - Extra Features
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 сер 2024
- Plex does MOST of the organization work for you when it comes to most media types - movies, TV shows, music, and so on. But when you create a custom "Home Movies" library that it doesn't have metadata to pull from, it's easy to let things get pretty messy. In this video I show you some tips on how to organize your "Home Movies" or "Other Videos" library and use Playlists to group films and extras together.

Great brother!
I like it!
I am from Cambodia 🇰🇭
The first tip on viewing the files by folder was brilliant, but I would recommend using Collections over Playlists. Playlists are just that, creating a way to play a series of videos or music in one long playlist. Collections is the way to organize your videos. Plex offers multiple ways to show or not show what is in a Collection. Collections are created under the meta data of a file. Select one or multiple files at once and click on the pencil icon and click on the TAGS menu. From there just add the name of the new Collection. A file can a member of multiple Collections. After that you can manage how the collection is displayed in the Movie/TV/Home Movie/Music menus. You can show the items and the collection or you hide the items only to be shown when inside the collection view. Lots of ways to manage it. Playlists are not the way to go on trying to organize your media.
Thanks for this post. I'm fairly new to Plex (got my Plex Pass!!) and since I've set it up, I've been using collections to manage groups of movies that are related. Actually I'm using both collections and smart collections to do this and I wondered while watching this video if that functionality could be used with "home videos" because I assumed playlists are designed to serve up the items in the playlist in sequential order, like episodic TV, or like tracks of music from a CD, which I did not necessarily want. I'll check out collections and see how they work!
It doesn't look like Collections were available at the time Epos Vox made this video, but I just switched everything to Collections myself. Not exactly sure the difference between Collections and Playlists though other than how they show up in a separate tab for that category. Playlists appear to me across all categories which makes them more versatile, but I guess they're not meant for categorizing?
How do you pin collections to the side menu!? Sorry newbie here!
Thank you. Realy helpfull.
thank you
These videos are very useful. If I ever setup a plex server, I'll go back and watch all of them again. Thank You
That's what they're here for :)
We would totally get along...Yu Yu Hakusho!!!!❤😀 Thanks for the tips dude!
Bruh, I just spend a few hours searching the internet just to find out "Folders" was an option. :D thanks brother
Quick question: I notice my Plex Playlist doesn't show up on my Roku Plex App. Perhaps I'm overlooking something in the settings. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Seems like it would be way easier to just add these videos to a new "TV" library, then just make folders to organize and make things like say DIgital Foundry its own "TV series". Also if you do it this way, if you ever have to reset your Plex server like I've had to do a hundred times, it will be auto recognized and you can also add custom posters and backdrops etc to each episode if you want.
What version of Plex are you using in the video? I am using ver. 1.18.8.2527 and the interface seems to be different in a number of ways. I have yet to figure out how to find and use folders and playlists to classify my family/home movies as well as some youtube content that I have downloaded. If the interface has changed significantly and there is a different way to handle, please consider updating your tutorial/video to address the new way that Plex can be used to solve this problem. I am a fairly new Plex user of a few months, so I am still figuring things out.
These are really greats tips. It would be nice if we could share a playlist.
Good tips!
Thanks for watching!
My big issue is that I have tons of movies and TV shows that just never show up, or there are eps missing, even in folder view. Is there a place in Plex where all the stuff it couldn't match goes?
You have to make sure they are in the right folders. TV shows MUST go in the TV folder, same with movies in the Movies folder, etc. You have adhere to the proper naming conventions too.
Hello im new to plex, been watching lots of vids but can't find one that answers my question. I am trying to make available to my family not in my home, the list of plugins i can see on my server. eg... Nicj, which is in my plugins, but I cannot make a playlist so i can share that with them, how do I share plugins or turn them into a playlist so I can add the playlist to the shows / list i want for my family ?
Newest version of PLex...I try to add a folder that contains videos I've downloaded from UA-cam. I select the folder to "Add" to "other Movies" but Plex doesnt show them after adding them... They need to make plex much easier to add a simple folder of home movies.
Gave a like just for the over 9000 reference
I can't believe that Plex doesn't have a favourites section where the metadata/posters is well presented! Kodi very easy Right click... Add to favourites. How in 2020 did PLEX make this so damn hard.
i have try to add home video and also photo , but they are not display the thumnail , what am i douing wrong ,
Thumbs up
Good info. One problem with playlists is that you can't share them with other users.
FYI if you use WEBTOOLS you can do this. However, they are a snapshot of the list at sharetime. ANy changes aren't reflected... for this COLECTIONS are better, but only available to paying users of PLEX.
I know how to create a collection but I don't know how to create an advanced collection for example like UA-cam does lets say I want the name of the channel Rogers Way but I want to have separate playlists within my main channel that are on different topics just like having TV Series sorted. Right now if I add to the collection it adds all of the videos within that collection and makes a mess of them. I want each topic on a separate playlist.
emby can associate images with folders
But you cant search by tags
Over nine thousaaaaaaaaaand?!?
Guaranteed he will die before even a small percentage is even looked at. I'm a hoarder too and I know damn well much of the stuff I keep will never be seen again, at least by my eyes.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH That’s a fact. My server is up to 23TB now, always growing…
Still waaayyy too manual
you got the taskbar on the top of your screen
_you madman_
i also downloaded all of dbza abridged lol never know if it will get removed from the internet some day !
The functionality for home photo and videos is far far far behind being usable. Having played around with Emby for about five minutes you can do a lot more with your home photography content than Plex, don’t get angry just my opinion.
Why in the world would you rip videos off UA-cam? Just bookmark them in UA-cam.
Because they can disappear from UA-cam.
Tips for organizing home movies - none of the stuff you ripped from UA-cam is a "Home Movie". 10 minutes = wasted.
Why are you talking like a newscaster?
I'm not.
So true.
He is! haha
