I took advantage of the discount a few weeks ago and upgraded to the lifetime Plex Pass. That's a steal if you've committed your media to a server scenario. But, there's one feature that I think would be an awesome offering to Plex Pass subscribers and that's a one-button backup feature for configuration settings. I have hundreds of hours invested in building my Plex server libraries, and although I've backed up the configuration using the video you provided a couple of years ago, it's not convenient, and therefore, I don't do it as often as I should. I'd really like to run that backup on a weekly basis, and honestly, I think it's almost criminal that they don't offer a quick and easy backup feature as a standard part of such a developed software platform. So, thanks for the video, Lon, and I'll keep hoping for the feature add!! ~Frank
I didn't realize that hardware transcoding was only available on the paid version! This explains why the CPU was spiking recently on my Plex PC. Thanks for the detailed video.
Had the life time since they first offered it, it has been so worth it. The skip intro is awesome, I get so upset when a show doesn't have it 😀 I currently have special/director editions in a seperate directory I look forward to using this new feature.
I got my lifetime license of plex pass a few years ago on some kind of plex promotion. One of the best purchase that I've ever made. Great videos as always, Lon :)
I began using Plex in 2009 when Apple started restricting the functionality of adding personal media to Itunes/ATV. I have never looked back, however I miss the plethora of plug-in apps we used to have. I also do not care much for the growing number of direct content ( plex movies, live TV, Plex arcade Etc.) being launched on a regular basis. My library include 3300+ movies (90% ripped from DVD's bought over the years). a huge amount of TV series, 150+ full lenght live concerts and more..One of my favourite Plex Apps is "PLEX AMP" , I have a music library of 2100 albums which my plex server manages well. PLEX AMP is an app which allows you to play music from your portable devices. I managed to add Plex Amp to my Apple CarPlay setup in my car which is perfect!...
I have a wd my cloud ultra ex2 running Plex. With blue ray or 4k videos it buffers over and over. Impossible to watch. Would Plex pass help? I know it has hardware transcoding. But since the ultra ex2 don't have hardware for transcoding would Plex pass do anything to help my problem? Thanks.
I like plex quite a bit, it works well if you set it up properly and has a understandable interface. My issues begin with the plex pass, charging you for transcoding? As far as I know, you transcoding video costs plex nothing on their end to maintain or provide, so I am not sure why this remains a paid feature. It is my biggest gripe, as it makes me unable to use my media outside of my house, which is the only place I truly need to access it on plex, otherwise I could just watch it over the network on a cheap windows pc.
I just upgraded my NAS and signed up for 1 month to try it. Using the DVR for the first time tonight. Just not sure I can justify the expense for how much I’d use it. I agree it’s very powerful and may work well for others. Just not me.
One of the things I'd love to see is a similar version feature for TV shows For example Japanese subbed versus dubbed I literally had to separate them in different libraries and folders But the bulk Library aka all tv shows can't tell the difference between subbed and dubbed How do you fix it and can you just simply have the same tag for different version for TV shows aka: Chobits (sub) Chobits (dub)
I am thinking of buying plexpass. For $119.00 one time payment. Can i watch movies on airplane when i traveling? No wifi on plane southwest any promo codes that work
Question, does the pass have a PLAY ALL IN FOLDER option?meaning they only play one episode if you have a series going from a tv show and i have videos that are not showing up in my personal library which are certain tv series by the way,do i need the pass for those to show up in my folder?thanks
Hey Lon great videos I’ve learned alot from you. I need your honest opinion what is a good and reliable ota dvr. There are so many out there I just don’t know what one to get. I have 3 tv’s and need to know what you recommend. Get back to me asap. Thanks Nick
I just want to post some information from our Scandinavian viewers that Plex pass lifetime costs $307 in Norway and Sweden? Is this still a good deal??
Your Plex videos are always great! Wish they we biweekly! (Hint! Lol). Would also love to see tutorials on how to enable/set up Plex Pass features. Thanks Lon! 👍🏻👍🏻
I have a Plex server running from a Docker container on my Rasberry Pi4. Everything works great and I even have a Cloudshare tunnel that lets me access my plex server outside my home network. However Plex will not see any files/folders from mounted drives. This applies to drives directly connected to my Pi and mounted as well as network shared drives. The Pi sees all my movie files once mounted, but the Plex server does not. I've googled this till blue in the face, but nothing I've found helps. I keep coming across references to the plex user group and needing to make permission changes to accommodate this group, but there is no such group on my Pi, likely due to it's running in a container. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get this to work?
I really like plex and have been a plex lifetime pass user for years. I been trying Channels dvr I like how I can record shows from streaming platforms like Stirr and it seems less effected by signal issues on the live TV part. It deals with something like some interference from thunderstorms better than plex does. My local Channels come in strong but so it's only an issue in bad weather.
I've always wondered if I might want or need plex pass. But none of the benefits apply to me. No more than 2 people use my plex at any given time. I bought decently strong desktop PC specifically for plex to only be used with plex. (I have separate laptops I use for productivity)With a high thread count per core. and I pay for high speed data at home. About 400 mbps. So I guess I'm good!
Hi! I have plex server running on hp elitedesk 705 G1 DM with CPU AMD A8 Pro-7600B R7 and GPU AMD ATI Radeon R7. Do you think that if i buy plex pass can leverage the hardware transcoding benefits? thanks
If you store them on your server itself with Plex or on a separate device like a NAS, you just have to point Plex to the photos folder location in the settings.
YOu will need a Plex Pass for the Windows 10 store app as well. If you are on PC with no pass, I recommend using the web app as well as it's free there. Also on consoles such as Playstation 4/5, Xbox One/Series, Fire Sticks, Smart Blu Ray players...etc it's all free. ONe thing people do on the phone is use the mobile web browser to be able to get Plex Mobile.
@@parakoopa99 when I had Plex Pass last year, it didn’t. For whatever reason, it didn’t support live, OTA, Closed Captioning. Seems like something so basic would be part of it. But, it wasn’t. My girlfriend has hearing problems. So, Closed Captioning on live OTA is a dealbreaker for our household. I’ll try again, though. Hopefully, they’ve added it.

Me too.
Absolutely Agree!

I have been dragging my feet and sadly they never have any $75 sales anymore, the lowest it ever goes is 25% or $90 which is annoying

Just upgraded to the lifetime pass. It is currently on sale at only $90. Great deal.

I'd recommend getting the lifetime pass whenever it goes on sale which it should normally. it definitely makes things handy if you share your account
Really helpful. I finally understand the benefits of the Plex Pass.

The lifetime pass sure looks like a great deal. I need to upgrade my nas first then will have to purchase with the “Lon” code
Yes! Both are definitely worthy upgrades! 😉

they don't have the download option on my pc plex server, i want to transfer to my tablet that has plex on it too
Lon, you got the iPhone 14 Pro? What do you think of it?
Hi there! I just want to ask how you add the featured playlist option inside the video description. Thank you!

Hi can you do an updated video on using a virtual server to run a plex server? Especially since plex has changed a lot since you've done one

I got a lifetime licence for €60 (or 75?) like 4 years ago. Definitely worth it for me
Some of those later ones around 8mins+ it's not quite clear, are these available to free users - if the server has plex pass?

2:40 Strange Days is a fav of mine too! Great cast! How do I get on the friends access list?!? LOL

Where you can buy all the movies so you can have it in your server ?

How do I watch the DVR shows? It doesn't allow it from the DVR page.
Dvr recordings get saved to the tv library you specify .

I use a athlon 5350 works surprisingly well with anything up to 1080p I can watch live TV at my girlfriend's house even though she has no aerial lol
Even the low bit rate video looks surprisingly good on her large Samsung tv
I hope Plex adds tv everywhere support. I’ll be sticking with channels DVR even if I prefer plex’s user interface due to this missing feature.
Is a laptop with external HD sufficient as a DVR? Also, if I purchase Plex Pass, will that mean Commercial Free?
I got the plex pass just to support them.
How do you get pictures on your plex server?
If you store them on your server itself with Plex or on a separate device like a NAS, you just have to point Plex to the photos folder location in the settings.
You add a library, and select the picture option and find the picture folder
Why is Peter Griffin photobombing your thumbnail? LOL

No you don't, you don't need a Plex pass for the PC app
And for mobile, if you use android you can use a modded APK to watch it without a Plex pass
@@parakoopa99 where do you get these modded APKs?
@@kookoo8897 there is a website/app called "happymod" and it has a lot of modded apps. I've been using it for years, and it never disappointed me

Keep up the great work
Does anyone know if Plex supports Closed Captioning for live OTA broadcasts, yet?
It should

Are those 1987 baseball cards.
Yes still wrapped too complete with gum!
They want me to pay to view my movies on my mobile devices. Hahahaha no.
I don’t think you understand. You can view your movies without the pass. The pass is for hardware transcoding.
I had Plex in 2011 it came on my LG 3D TV, i did use, now my account is no good, and will have to start again Thanks Plex not

Paying a subscription or over $100 to host your own media lol
Did you even watch the video? You don’t need Plex Pass to host your own media. Recommend a little Googling.
You don't need to pay to host your media. Actually you don't even need to pay, most of the needed features is free
