Thanks! Every "Intro" or "Beginner's" video on Plex that I've watched offers explanations, features, aspects, etc. that I haven't seen or caught before. And this one certainly adds details to the actual installation process that I certainly needed to see.
Finished my server build, so excited to see for "beginners". As much as I've read in prepping for installing and using Plex, maybe I'm just slow, but you still jumped past some areas that would have been clearer had you gone into a little more details. For example, a detailed explanation of the interface of the server vs the player. I certainly had them confused with each other at first. I suspect that with your knowledge and experience, it's difficult to put yourself in a "beginner" frame of mind. Still, I definitely picked up some good points. Still looking for Episode 2. In summary, thanks.
Yours is one of the most clear and concise beginner guides I have seen. I am setting up a test on a desktop PC to see how all of this works. If I can "make it go", I'll be setting up something dedicated. Thank you.

Would this software fix glitchy smart tv behavior? Mine connects to the network. It sees some percentage of the available content in one of the shared folders. The TV also can only make use of some srt files but most of the time the CC menu says 'none' as though there actually is no srt file when there is. I was thinking of trying software before adding more hardware.
Been messing around with plex with my new Oculus Quest. Been pretty great so far but hope to pick up some new tips :)

help , question having trouble getting movies and videos from my computer to shield , i have plex server on both and 4tb external hard drive on shield [to store movies ect] do i need a server on both ? [want to use shield to store and play movies ] when i scan libraries it dosent put them on shield server , any ideas what i can do ?
What format do movies need to be in? Will Mkv work?
I have 2 HDD with movies on. I have added both directories in Plex and now it shows up two "Movies" folders.
I would like all the movies on the two HDDs to show up in plex under ONE folder called "Movies". How is this done?
I don't know why PLEX does not read put ther ID3tag for music. I have a fine arranged music libary in my Clouddrive and when I add it to the plexserver, alle the titel names are gone and mostly replaced with senseless tags. Also POlex mixed up "title" and "album" which results in the title is the album and the other way round. I am a bit lost now
I installed server several times and it will not come up for me to see. It does show down in the bottom right hand corner saying its running but I can't open it to do anything.
Hello, I have a QNAP with all my files on it and it is directly connected to my TV via HDMI I used to use KODI, but QNAP auto removed that app and I just can't get it back on there to save my life. So I had to switch to Plex. Plex has been working fine for the most part. I turn on my TV and inside of my QNAP (via HDMI to the TV) I just open Chrome and go to the Plex app via the Plex website. Or sometimes via the Roku I just use the Plex app. But lately I have been getting a weird message about "Can't establish a secure connection". I get that message via HDMI to the TV, or through Roku, or even on my computer or phone. All the same. It gives me a button to "connect unsecured", but that doesn't work either. Plex / QNAP had an update recently and now it's all working again without me doing anything (minus the update). But then again last night after using it just fine for a week or so, I get the same message. And now Plex is rendered broken and not connecting and not working on any device. Any thoughts? Thanks.
Anyone know how to fix audio out of sync issue on plex media player for windows 10 ?? movie starts fine but then goes out of sync for 1 sec or so. Brower player works fine. Thanks you in advance
Hello guys I'm having problem with remote access..it connects and disconnects automatically within few seconds..I'm running my Plex media server on a laptop..with windows 10.. I also tried Upnp and port forwarding with static IP..still having same issue

watching your vid fixed my problem but, I still don't know why it was a problem. using plex server to watch my movies - some would play fine others would only play the video with no sound (same file format). While playing those same movies in VLC for example they were fine.
Your emphasis on downloading the plex media player is what did it. In my almost 8-month search for a solution, others didn't push that point that I remember. Now those movies with no sound are playing fine through the media player. But, to me, things should play through the server's media player the same way. I don't understand why they don't.
Plex keeps telling me to download Plex Media Server (even though it is running) and I can't actually start a library. I've tried redownloading and resetting computer, reinstalling PMS, and nothing. Any ideas?
I tried this several times but every time I launch the app, nothing happens.

Really glad I was able to get my Plex server up and running. Too bad the PS4 client is garbage.

Hi, I'm not getting the server setup ADD library menu. When I install Plex server, it just goes into my taskbar, nothing happens at all. I open up the webpage and go to your media it says nothing is there.
Maybe you should try uninstall it and then try this steps:
1-Delete the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc. registry key.
2-Delete the following directory:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server
And then reinstall

I'm trying to create a linear TV channel using ErsatzTV and I know it's possible to create a Netflix or whatever stream, but I'm not sure where I do that.

Do an Emby for beginners...been with Plex for 5+ years and looking to switch after all their shenanigans
Definitely recommend Emby. I find it to be much more stable when streaming outside the network to my phone, and I like the interface more as well. But the biggest pro for me over Plex is the native support for IPTV. Plex DVR is great for OTA or unencrypted cable, but it does not support IPTV without a complex workaround. I like the amount of customization offered through Emby, too. The developers are also much more responsive than Plex's.

The latest Plex-Server alows Direct Play / Direct Stream after you set it up in the Browser WIndow. To FInd these Settings you need to Show the Advanced Settings then you get an extra Menü Option besides General, Quality and Player. Under Debug you then can enable Direct Play and Direct Stream. Tested it with the latest Chrome and Firefox Browsers.
My Server is an dedicated Ubuntu with the Latest Plex Media Server running. I also own an Plex-Pass License.
Why waste Hardware Resources and Run Plex Media Server under Windows? Especialy if you have it running 24/7.
You should make a video for animes in plex
They should add a lock for when ur waching a show or movie on ur phone so u wont accidentally touch skip or move position of what ur watching

I have been using Plex for years - one of the best local streaming services I have ever used. I particularly love it for its interface and the way that it automatically finds and downloads metadata. Unlike *that guy*, I cannot think of a service like this who does it nearly as well, for free.
Kodi is cool if you're doing a single PC setup, not a server - but at that point I'd just play files locally. And I still prefer Plex's UI.
@@EposVox Yeah. I tried Kodi at one point, but I just couldn't switch over. The server is what kept me loyal. Having an entire family to entertain has its ups and downs. Ha ha
how did u get the apps to work for free ?
@@RichMantaray Both of these services are offered for free. You can also view any media on it without restrictions from a Windows device, and possible a mobile browser (however, I am not entirely sure about the last part - Epos will have a better understanding about that). Regardless, you can always try it from a browser to find out.
Apart from that, I know for sure that you need to unlock Plex for a single purchase of 5 USD in order to view all media without restriction. A Plex Pass is not required.
To answer your question: The apps are free, but Plex iOS requires an unlock for media longer than 1 minute. Can be viewed from browser on Windows for free; and possibly mobile browser. I used Kodi too long ago to remember.
Video is WAAAAY to old. All menus are now different. Besides, you dont show how you get INTO those menus.

Emby = pay once
If you dont have an Plex Pass you can "Just" Buy an Licence for every App (Android/iOS). Good if you just have one Device to Sync to.
Better way is to Shop an Plex Lifetime Licence if it is around 100€ and you Solve that Problem forever.
Also i can Recommend Kodi.
Whenever I see "for beginners" I always hope there's also a "for morons" ...considerate it? Similar to an 099 class in college.

@@EposVox - I don't recall saying that you should call your viewers morons? But if someone is searching for basic get up and going media server stuff (Plex or otherwise), a "for dummies" type of thing might grab attention and be helpful for the uninitiated.
I've seen a number of "beginners" tutorials for tech things in the past year or so that assume a heck of a lot of knowledge - that's not exactly a "beginner" tutorial, ya know? It gets annoying.
Maybe you prefer "Idiots guide to..." ??? I know in this hyper PC culture where everyone is offended, I guess you have to keep that in mind.. oi. Madness.

I already have a second user-added, but I do not see it on my other computer when I run PLEX SERVER, it's connected to the same Network I should be able to see it.
Why? Plex is crap. There are other ways to do it that is so much better and Free.
Really not sure what you expect me to say here.
Been using Plex since 2014 - the *free* services they provide are good enough for most people as per my last video, and they support the channel in big ways. So no, I can't say I'd agree it's "crap" but thanks for being that guy.
