Lyrics:
My baby, he don't talk sweet
He ain't got much to say
But he loves me, loves me, loves me
I know that he loves me anyway
And maybe he don't dress fine
But I don't really mind
'Cause every time he pulls me near
I just wanna cheer
Let's hear it for the boy
Oh, let's give the boy a hand
Let's hear it for my baby
You know you gotta understand
Oh, maybe he's no Romeo
But he's my lovin' one-man show
Oh, whoa, let's hear it for the boy
OMG, I was just a little girl of 6 when this came out... My beautiful baby brother had just turned 1, and I used to sing this to him and make him dance around the front room with me every time it came on the radio - it was "our song" for years! 😍 We were like a double act - we even had rhyming names (Beth and Seth!) 😂 I can still see his gorgeous smile and hear him laugh - he was such a sweet, kind little boy - but sadly he was also very poorly and had a lot of health issues, and in 1992 he died of Reye's Syndrome aged 9 (when I was 14)... When it became obvious he wasn't going to make it, I put this song on and we had one last singalong to it as he lay in the hospital bed... As the song ended, he smiled at me and held my hand, and shortly afterwards he fell asleep, and never woke up again... I'm now 44 and still miss him terribly - but as the 30th anniversary of his passing approaches, rather than sadness, the song fills me with joy and happiness, remembering all the great times we shared while he was still with us... R.I.P. Seth - LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE BOY!!! 👦

That’s Denice .. W~_< ( double)
Today is the 40th anniversary of this song's release as a single. Also, what's surprising was that's Deniece Williams's second and last #1 hit in the US Billboard Hot 100 and it was a success to make it to #1 at that time as her only #1 as she does solo. Her previous and first #1 was in 1978 when she collabed with Johnny Mathis with "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late" and is her only #1 where she collabed with another musician. This song was the second single of the "Footloose" soundtrack to make it to #1 after the title track by Kenny Loggins.

I love this💓. My son is autistic and although he is very smart he doesn't have very good social skills. A family moved in next door and their youngest daughter is my son's age. She is so sweet and precious. She is deaf. My son can sign since he didn't talk when he was smaller this is how we communicated. I looked outside one day and my son wasn't on our porch he was next door sitting under a tree with the neighbor girl. They were "talking" up a storm. He doesn't normally socialize. According to her parents neither does she. I cried. She's his new best friend. This song makes me think of that moment every time I hear it. My son is definitely one in a million❤.

I agree with you 100% I miss the 80s more and more as I get older I'm starting to see how things are in today's generation it's horrible people done lost their f****** minds and on top of that music nowadays don't mean a damn thing it's all about sex sells and that's that. One thing that I can say about the '80s that I love was that it was a time where going to the movies with someone meant something watching things on television from cartoons to regular TV shows they were something not to mention the clothes we used to wear was more classier than the clothes that people wear these days yes back then we were dealing with stuff like AIDS and drugs and yes the crime was a little bit high but looking at music videos like this makes everything look and feel different

Heard this a ton on the radio back in the 80s. Was a military brat living in SE Asia when Footloose came out. This song takes me back to those hot tropical summers when we American kids (And there were so many of us) played all day out in that oppressive heat. We'd catch tadpoles, raid the banana trees, play kickball, ride bikes, gi joes, hot wheels and hang out at the youth center among many other activities.

I love when ppl pretend that nobody was ever judgmental in the 80s
@@mermaidprincess27People that mind, don't matter and those who matter, don't mind. You chose one word to make judgement on, rather than the whole statement. I grew up in a mixed bag of a community in an estate of flat apartments in London and we had fun together. Stop projecting and stereo typing people with negativity.
@@AnyKeyLady I think you missed my entire point but okay sure lol
@@AnyKeyLady the irony is that you're being judgmental about someone who was merely pointing out the flaw in 'golden age' thinking, the notion that things were better at some point in the past, when in fact there were just as many if not more social problems: especially in America. You are the only one being negative and stereotyping here
Still listening from the 1980s too 2024 and too 2030 and beyond
What an era. Isn't it great we can come back on here and relive happier, more simple times.
That s a classic and music was soul healing and meaningful. Miss it completely. So.much fun

Kaylene Petersen After all of that, back to the grind 😢
Ahh the eighties. A time when most downtown cities(even in relatively small towns) were dirty and full of graffitti. A time of AIDS, the crack epidemic, and the constant fear of getting nuked. Kids ran around beating each other up way more IRL because they had nothing better to do(thank you internet). Good things happened too, but I just thought I'd throw this in to provide some balance.
Yes it is, i do it all the time.

This song was about her pre school son. Self respect is everything.
Wonderful!
That's... very untrue, but ok
Sounds similar to madonna borderline.
The line "Maybe he's no Romeo, but he's my loving One-Man Show" kinda sorta debunks your theory that she is singing about her pre-school son...like, eww, gross. Damn, what goes on in your family? =0
Its generalized and very universal. Songs are primarily written in this form to maximize potential for a larger audience to relate. Its an uplifting song about a woman supporting the opposite gender. Its meant to teach/show others that it is okay not to be a hater. :)
That high note was so beast!!
yeah I think it was an A5, but don't quote me on that for I am going off the top of my head for what it sounds like, but it sounds like an octave jump from A4 to A5
Yep and there was NO AutoTune back then, barely any forms of studio trickery apart from maybe speeding the tape up to get a slightly higher pitch, or slowing it down to make it slightly easier to hit higher notes, but this was not often and was easy to spot in a mix.
yes I was thinking thesame. pure vocals you can't teach stuff like that 😀

I was born in 80 and my daughter on 04. Was listening to this and she was singing every word. Proud moment💜
I watched footloose and I love to dance and it was so awesome and I love Kevin bacon and Lori singer.
I was also 4 when the song and movie came out
What a great song, this was a huge hit and is still fantastic. Thank you.
My mother was alive and well when this song was out wow precious memories 😲😲🤔🤔❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💯💯💯💯💯💯
80s artists put their heart and soul into it. That's the biggest difference between 80s artists and those today.
The majority of 80's artists didn't even write their own songs.

Except that in music the term "artist" does not refer to those who sing/perform music only. Those who write or produce music, are musical artists, as well. And so, either way you put it, 80s artists put their heart and soul into it.
