Great video glad you made this to show people the frustrating human part of modding fixing consoles I’ve DEFINITELY BEEN THERE a bunch and I do the same thing shelf it or sometimes you need to know when to cut your losses and use it as a parts system and DONT GIVE UP everyone makes mistakes don’t let the elitists tell you not to do something in this community don’t be afraid to fail no matter how many times to get it right. Also putting them aside is good because sometimes youlle get so nervous you won’t think logically about what went wrong and overthink overdue and cause more harm then if you calmly test areas for faults.
So well said, so very well said, thank you for being real, understanding, and relating with wise words of wisdom and guidance for anyone who may be getting into modding consoles
Thanks man, I feel there's so much more that goes into all this modding and I really like to address alot of it. I've always been fascinated with how, why people do what they do
"Just throw it on the shelf, go work on something else, come back to it later" - I do this all the time, both for personal projects(hardware), and for work stuff(software) and it works great!
@RETRO GAMING ARTS, thanks for the upload. Still been trying to figure out the comsoft v4 fix on the v9 ps2 consoles. Looks like Kel was able to figure out the points needed for the subzero laserfix for the v9 and v10 consoles. However, I think he mentioned something about using a pull down resistor instead of a diode 1n4148 (something failed in his v10 causing the tray to not eject). However, the solder points for the comsoft v4 and consequently matrix pic fix are confirmed. I have a few spare gh023 and gh026 boards to reattempt this, gonna see if I can design a qsb to make the subzero laserfix any easier. Hopefully I can finally finish this to confirm everything with my own eyes. I trust Kel's results but I'd like to see it work on my end as well, know what I mean? Anyways thanks for the upload and keep up the good work! Cheers and success to everything you set out to endeavor.
@@haloslayer255 omg! i cant wait to hear about your test results and see what happens, this is so cool, thanks for watching robert, i really appreciate it
The put it on the shelf mentality is definitely something I need practice with. I'm not good at realizing when I've spent too much time busting my head over a project. Taking breaks and coming back to it later is god because you come back refreshed and with a new mindset

Super great video, thanks so much for sharing your tips for dealing with failures. I have a couple of "practice" PS2s after ripping some traces off due to lack of skill. After practicing attaching wires to random vias, chip pins, and test pads I was able to have the thrill of soldering in a PS2 mod chip. Learning from your mistakes is also a great lesson... still need to learn that from time to time, heh. Thanks for posting!!!
Failure is a natural part of growing and learning. If someone isn't failing at least sometimes then they aren't setting difficult enough goals. When you metioned mental traps, rubber ducky debugging popped into my head. Basically keep a rubber duck on your desk and when you get stuck explain in minute detail what you've tried/done to the duck and 9 times out of 10 in the process of talking to an inanimate object like it's a coworker/friend I realize what the problem is.
rubber ducky debugging, i love that phrase, its a great concept and a good idea, vocalizing and hearing things outloud helps dramatically in alot of situations
thanks Gou, glad you seen this one, it was very serious and real, but i'ma flip it on next video, i got a silly silly one omg, you're gunna love it, its "playstation related" HAHAHAH omg youll see
Failing attempts to fix something is never a failure. It's a learning experience. 1) SOLDERING: for every solder and desolder operations you do, you are learning and improving. 2) FAULT FINDING: you get better every day and maybe you get to fix something other people couldn't. 3) PARTS: Those consoles are not that rare to be concerned , and having a not working console is still a mine of parts to resurrect consoles in better conditions. 4) ELECTRONIC KNOWLEDGE: A broken console can also be helpful to compare shorts in components from one broken console to the other, to maybe narrow down where the fault actually is and understanding how the console works internally. 5) MODDING BASE: a broken console can be the base for a custom made one with additional features. Failure is just a step to success.
I was just watching your PS Vita vid then suddenly saw this title, kinda wanna check out your say about failure cause I've been so frustrated lately about this game, where I'm with my friends and they're all so skilled, I'm always the one being left behind. But I've been trying and trying for months now, your words just resonate me, sir. I'm gonna do as what you say because it's true, most of the time I feel stuck, like a loser and just can't do anything - to the point I've claimed that I'm just really pessimistic myself, not knowing I should just take the time to go outside or do some other things. It refreshes the mind. Your words are facts. So, yeah, thank you, sir. I appreciate your message about it all, and I'm gonna sub to ya!
Do NOT underestimate sleep! A study has been made where people were seeing 7 coloured buttons that were lighting up in a specific pattern, they had to learn it and press them again in the right order. Turns out, the pattern seemed random but wasn't, it was actually always the same. None of them realized that on Day 1, all of them picked up on Day 2. Sleeping is like compiling all the info of that day.
thats a very interesting study, and it makes SO much sense that it works, and its nice that study exists to show proof behind what i said in this video lol
Thanks man, I needed to watch this, I'm just learning soldering and I kinda jumped right in with a GBA backlit screen and Xeno chip for Gamecube and failed at both of them. (I messed up the TP 2 pad on the GBA thus making my select input no longer function, and pretty sure I blew out the laser on my gamecube my messing with the pot.) I was feeling super down and almost swore that I would never hard mod another video game system again but I left them alone for a couple of days and then after discovering your channel and then stumbling onto this video, I think I might just be willing to pick up the iron again. I think I'll get some easy practice sets online to just work on form and techniques. Anyway I appreciate your channel and hope you continue to do what you do helping people like me. Peace and blessings brother. Update: I bought a multimeter and tweaked the pot to give it one last go before I sold it for parts and I got it to work! That's a loaded question, it took me a very long time to come to terms with the fact that I wanted to stop. And there was so many factors, but the main 3 reasons are. 1. I wished I was making UA-cam content that was more dramatically impacting people's lives, NOT video game related. 2. The nature of my own personal life is so chaotic and ever evolving its difficult to do anything for extended periods of time 3. I hated making videos after a while. It became a chore, not enjoyable. The time it takes to make them, work a full time job, have a repair and mod business, and online store.. constantly having to sell something just to have enough money/time to BE ABLE to make my next video made it not fun for me. And once it becomes not fun, and not financially viable, there's no reason to do it. Thanks for asking this question, and thanks for still watching, and not forgetting about me.
