  • We love blackout curtains. But is it okay to wash them in the machine? What if you dry them out with no care? I ruined my curtains, four of them. And I just want to make sure someone else doesn't.

    Being in the drapery business for 20y rubberized blackout curtains can NOT be washed.
    Option 1 is wipe off the right side with dump cloth and hang right away to dry. Option 2 is just vacuum it.

      Yeah, but our house maid dried them in a way that the insides touch other. For this particular product, there was a rubbery feel to the lining and they got stuck.. If you dry them such that the cloth part touches cloth part, it's fine.. Again, there are different types of black out curtains too :)

    I am in the process of starting to take down our blackout curtains to wash them. We'll be washing them in the tub but hanging them inside on the shower rod. I would probably have hung them the way you did with the rubber inside; Thanks for this advice!

      I am glad I could help... That's the whole reason I made the video... So, the word goes around... All the best.. Also, from the other comments, I learnt that despite hanging it inside out, if there's a lot of heat, the rubber is getting sticky and all... So, take care that you don't hang it out in the Sun or something... (More of an advice for people living in the tropics, but just saying :) )

    Glad I checked this out on youtube. I was about to wash my black out curtains that separate my rv coach from the cab. I'm traveling so what would I have done without them. So glad I saw this. I may try and spot clean them by hand with a little bit of dawn and water. My dog gets them dirty as she goes from coach to cab.

    I just ruined my favorite black out curtains 😢 I have 16 of those and ruined 8 don’t know if I should try the other 8. When I soaked in bath tub with tide all the dirt came out and look so clean but after I drained the water and wanted to dry it was stuck together. Also that sticky white went to the curtains. Anyone can share how to wash it properly? I love this video though!! Thank you for sharing

      Be careful... Avoid machine wash. And dry them the other way around. If you see Amazon website now, they now mentioned, "Avoid Machine Wash". It was not there earlier. I am glad they did it. I called them up and reported it too..

    Also with storing them in the cupboard. When folded don't let the white touch. I did that and when i unfolded them there were little holes that let the light through. Always fold the display fabric onto each other, don't let the rubbery white stick together.

      You can wash them in the machine... The way to dry them makes the difference... Don't let the inner layers touch... As they dry, they stick to each other... It could be different with other brands, but this one Amazon Basics - That's how you gotta do it... :)

    Wow, I had no idea these curtains could be ruined by washing. Does this mean though, that you can't hand wash either?
    Plus could they be dry cleaned?
    I have one pair where I bought the lining separate, so wondering if these are different again 🤔?

    • @EverydayReviewsEntertainment
      @EverydayReviewsEntertainment  2 роки тому

      You can hand wash them.. Absolutely..
      But, when you dry them, make sure that the lining doesn't touch the other lining. Then the rubbery material will stick as the curtain dries..

  • @stjohnssoup

    I just tried one but inside a duvet cover and it seems to be ok.
    I have hung it up to dry with a dehumidifier which should be quicker to dry.

      I used hairdryer later on after washing to release them. Also thinking of spraying talcum powder after washing and will use the curtain rod itself to dry rather than drying with fold . The first wash wasn;t so bad and its been 2 years now.. they are getting more stickier.

      If you ran it on a hot wash and then a cool rinse that’s why they stick together when the wash is done. It’s what I did and ruined them. I now just wash it with a hot wet cloth

    Drying: So hang them with the foam/backing side out so it doesn't stick to itself. Thank you!
    Washing: Does your washing machine have an agitator, or does it use an impeller/water currents? Mine has an impeller, so I'm wondering if it would be okay on delicate setting...

    • @EverydayReviewsEntertainment
      @EverydayReviewsEntertainment  11 місяців тому

      Not sure of the technicality here.. :) Hope you got the answer you needed.

    • @r.1599
      @r.1599 11 місяців тому

      @@EverydayReviewsEntertainment I was actually wondering if your washing machine is just an empty drum with holes that the water flows through, or if it has a central stem agitator that physically pushes and moves the clothes around.
      I have an impeller washing machine; that means when you look into the washing machine, there is nothing inside but you can see holes on the bottom and sides.
      When you look into a washing machine with an agitator, there is a stem in the middle that comes up nearly to the top, with kind of fins towards the base, and when the machine is on, this moves back and forth and moves the clothes around.
      It seems to me that the curtain backing is more likely to be damaged with a washing machine with an agitator, so I was wondering if your washing machine has one.
      Thanks for answering, and if you could answer the question about an agitator, I would have enough information to know if I can try washing my curtains or not. I appreciate it.
