If you're serious about cleaning you're gunna want to know about this simple mistake EVERYONE makes using cleaning cloths: ua-cam.com/video/hhYFNdD3QN8/v-deo.html
Thank you, great video! I just took my drapes to the dry cleaner. With 22 pleats cost (if I had left them) would have been $396!!! I'll be doing them myself with your help.
Thank you! I sprayed mine with Febreze fabric refresher. That stuff is vile, the whole house smelt disgusting and I could not shift that headache-inducing stink - baking soda, vinegar spray, airing , nothing helped. Mine cannot be dry cleaned or maschine washed. Thank goodness this helped. When I was done, I sprayed them with vodka.
4:20 Lol is there any way to vacuum curtains with a handheld & not inhale the dust cloud afterwards 😅 I wish there was a HEPA filter to help empty the vacuum!
New sub after watching only 2 of your videos. This is an often overlooked area of cleaning esp if you only occasionally vac your drapery. This along with washing ceilings and walls are a big job but satisfying afterwards. Thank you for making my life easier as well as the economic benefit. The more you know!❤
Thank you for making and sharing this video! I am going to give it a try! I have also subscribed and look forward to viewing more of your content. Thanks again!
@@CleaningHowTo Very easy! Much easier then parting with £60 which is what the dry cleaners quoted me!! Many, many thanks for your clear and very instructive video!! 😃
Hi.Thank you for the video. Can you please give me some advice in regards to my curtains.I have blackout thermal velvet Hillary's curtains and I would like to know what method is best to clean them. Please tell me which dry cleaner solvent (name and brand) I should use as I believe they are dry clean only.
Hi we have a wood burning stove and the tops of the curtains are particularly dirty. Am I best using the dry cleaning method or damp cleaning on the ‘soot’ residue? The curtains are a light oatmeal colour and blackout lined. Thanks
In Sydney in ‘21 got a quote to clean curtains in 3 rooms (with swag on each window) for $2000k. Debated getting blinds for 2 years and this year (thank you inflation) taking a week off and trying your approach instead.
Linen hates alkalinity, oxidisers, and moisture - watch my ph video and my viscose videos. Use ph neutral product, don’t overwet. Simple when you know how - read that this all again! Don’t use any oxidising products you’ll ruin them.
@@xavthomas you can kill the plant; you can’t remove the damage. I’m not going to advise you further on this as you can very easily damage (and/or bleach), the fabric and I don’t want tell you to do something that can damage the fabric.
@@CleaningHowTo okay. Thanks. I just moved into rented accommodation (in Ireland) and I ha e a 2 year old who likes to play in the curtains... don't want him playing in mould
Hi: Thank you for the awesome tips. Did you say we can use rubbing alcohol instead of dry cleaning solution? Does this methods work for black-out curtains? Would it damage the plasticised backing?
Great tips. My friend dog has peed on two different types of curtain. A cream coloured cotton lined. And 100% Polyester with lining. Dark grey outer with gold pattern, white lining. The light colour appears stained. The dark one smells. Both left yellow on my light carpet. Will the wet method clean pee/smells?
if the pee is fresh it should work, older urine turns alkaline as it breaks down so it could have burnt the material. You could try dabbing with a SMALL amount of white vinegar and drying rapidly with a hair dryer to test if it reverses (do this after cleaning not before).
Omg that DUST (4:20) made me cringe so much!! Thinking my curtains will be way worse coz I used to have 3 cats and I have not vacuumed the curtains for years! 🫣
only one dry cleaners with three shops locally, so can charge what they like. Got quote this am. Woman in there with two pairs of jeans. They charged her £23 and I saw her jaw drop. She still paid, though.

The dry cleaning solvent will help dissolve the soot :)

Hi could I use the rubbing alcohol on the linen?
@nafeesayaman3697 yes you could
Would these methods work on a curtain made with a cotton/viscose blend?
Yes, but keep the moisture low - and I mean very low; watch this first to understand viscose a bit better ua-cam.com/video/JRxD52crVS4/v-deo.html
What about mould at the bottom of the curtain?

Rubbing alchohol is fine yes, but honestly; the low moisture method works best unless theres a smoke/soot issue!

A plastic curtain?

Hi how to dry clean Brentwood?
Dunno what that is!
No need to go over them with rise water?
Nope, no need! Though if you really want to you can.
My dry cleaners wouldn’t touch my curtains as they are thermal lined.
They are brand new but have created a funky smell in the room
They’ll probably gas off on time - air the room for a few weeks

Large theatrical curtains are cleaned by tumbling them in a drum with corn starch, which acts as an abrasive and adsorbent.
I didn't even know people have curtains professionally cleaned. Wash them or get new.
