Elijah's words to the police officers broke my heart, the whole situation is horrific. I am so glad people are coming together to fight these injustices, they have gone on FAR too long. Since I was young, I have felt that judging people based on their outside (something we cannot change) is wrong, and instead judge people based on the things they have control over (actions, words, etc).

My comment stems from the fact that Elijah McClain was a 23 year old introvert that literally spent his lunch breaks playing his violin for animals with anxiety. He went to the store to buy tea, ended up being profiled, handcuffed, assaulted by multiple police officers to the point that he lost consciousness twice, and injected with enough ketamine (which is also used as a horse tranquilizer, club drug, and date rape drug) to take down a 220 pound person when he only weighed 140 pounds. The police were caught on camera telling each other to move their body cams. Elijah's last words were literally him apologizing to his killers for being "different". Elijah McClain was murdered nearly a year ago and Aurora PD did nothing to give him justice. The officers involved and the paramedics that injected him with ketamine all still have jobs. Aurora PD's inaction and refusal to reopen his case is literally saying Elijah's life did not matter. THAT is why his story breaks my heart.
Sandra Bland, Tamir Rice, and Philando Castile are three of the most well known and publicized cases of the BLM movement, we all know their names and have been demanding justice for them for years. Look up LaVena Johnson, Katherine Johnson, Oscar Grant, Anthony Hill, Atatiana Jefferson, Stephon Clark, Freddie Gray, Akai Gurley, John Crawford III, or Aiyana Stanley-Jones.

I just wanted to share their stories if you hadn’t heard of them cause they ripped me up inside like Elijah’s did. I shouldn’t assume anyone doesn’t know their very public cases, though and I’m sorry for that. Elijah’s story is absolutely sickening and it’s insane the lengths police officers will go to in order to not have to actually be a decent human with even a semblance of accountability. I just had remembered those three stories striking me in a similar way that Elijahs did where you’re literally just disgusted at how the entirety of those situations went down. Not one moment in any of those situations were the officers doing what they should have been and it’s disgusting. Again. Im so sorry i came off rude. I was not trying to take away from Elijah, I just wanted to highlight more stories of people who haven’t gotten justice. Your comment wasn’t the right place.

In Seattle there’s a phenomenal vegan restaurant owned by the most amazing black woman called Plum Bistro. She’s a life long vegan and she also has a cookbook called Plum as well as a plant based ice cream shop called Sugar Plum. There’s also an Ethiopian Restaurant called Cafe Selam that has super delicious food as well.
When I visited Seattle I ate at Plum Bistro and holy SHIT hands down some of the best vegan food I have ever eaten. It’s been 2 years and I’m still thinking about the vegan mac n cheese
