@@AushaMusic Hi again, Its Glen. Sorry, youtube had slowed my typing really bad. I had to send it. And write you back to type w ease and to finish telling you about my great story. Lol. I just had 3 calls that held me back from writing you. Sorry. I would use the other instruments in the songs that i liked to write the parts for the tenor drums, ( toms), snare drums, and i would use my noggin and reach in my invisible toolbox to pull out other parts to write to make my creation make sense and sound great to make the drummers sound and look like a unit and a DRUMMING MACHINE, HAAA HAA. My imaginary toolbox has bailed me out of many jams to fill in any other drum ideas to write parts. The cymbal parts also filled in w the crashes and hi hats. I hope i gave you a good view as to how i write drumline parts. I will give you a few things to relate to. Many moons ago, I had some drum music written, and I needed to write more parts, but nothing was coming to my mind, nothing was in the toolbox and I was at a loss. I couldn't figure anything out to add to my music. I was out clubbing one nite many yrs ago w my buddies and it was back when Madonna came out with VOGUE. Whatever yr that was, lol. I was dancing and I was listening to the rhythms of the bass parts, the song and everything. The song was jamming and the vocals were excellent, then Suddenly, the music stopped and the bass guitar came in for 4 bars with an easy, awesome bass line, and also a super groovy, cool bass part. Lol. On the 4th bar the snare drum completed the 4 bar pattern. Thst was exactly what i needed and i used it. It worked and was fun to write, teach and listen to when the drummers were jamming to my cadence, when they came to that stop. Then the bass drums did that groove. It was time for a change in the piece, and it worked so well, it gave me chills, still does.lol. Let me know what ya think. I would use Geddy Lee's bass lines from many of RUSH's songs. I used NEILS drum parts when he played rhythmic patterns on his high pitched tom drums, Well, i used that for the tenor, tom drums. Lol. If you reply and want to know the Rush songs that I used, I will let ya know. There is a YES song that I would love to write a bass drum part to. I cant think of the name. Its from one of their first albums. I dont write music from the whole song from when i get my ideas. I only use 1 or a few ideas. For STOMP, I like the bass parts from verse, the chorus, during the guitar solo and the end. There is a song from SADE that rocks a cool bass line and CHAKA KAHN that i plan on getting ideas from, so when i get back to teaching, i can teach my music. Lol. Thank you again for showing how the bass lines are played. Blessings, Glen I was at
U played this better than mostly all the people I’ve seen. Most people can’t get that solo even close to what Louis did, u did a good job. Side note I was lucky enough to see them perform Stomp live in concert on 4 different occasions, Louis played that solo different every time. It was close to what we hear on the record but he would go ape shit on that solo.
I am telling you point blank; I am stealing this version. I am going to study this video/technique/harmony until I can play it in my sleep. Thank you very much for the lesson(s)!
Van Damn! Wonderful playing and big props for your one-finger-per-fret technique, but keep in mind that there is no shame in playing octaves with index-fourth finger (I discovered that after a decade of heavy chops playing and unnecessary wear/tear) May you remain blessed with Funk for all your days!
sometimes i do octaves with my index and fourth finger in situations where it feels more natural but most of the time its honestly just not very comfortable to me hahaha but thank you so so much for the kind words
You are superbad girl I love the Brothers Johnson one of my favorite groups. Luis would be proud of you. You play beautiful and you definitely are beautiful baby ❤
God you make these songs look mad easy! I always love seeing your uploads because the songs are always something Ive never heard before, not to mention the bass lines 🤤
Four years since I’ve commented on this video and still click in from time to time just to hear her play
That and I come to gaze at her.
You have my respect young lady - bass player to player - not an easy track to cover...Louis Johnson was a force to be reckoned...You're on your way!!!
