Nice film. How many females a male salmon will be with? Is the male will die after a few week as female? Do chinook salmons behave similar to the sockeyes? Thanks.
Once the eggs are fertilized the female always stays with her own nest until she dies a few weeks later. The male (jack) will go in search of other females and fight for the right to spawn again and will also die a few weeks later. The Chinook salmon are similar but much larger than Sockeye.
Good question. If they are fortunate to lodge in a very safe place in the stones, then maybe. But more than likely they will become food for other stream dwellers such as Trout and Eels,That's one reason why the survival rate is as low as 0.001% after spawning.
Hey Kevin, that was very good video footage of those two salmon spawning. Was that a juvenile Kahawai at 4:14 ?
Thanks for the observation. That was a salmon smolt which was on its journey to the sea.
Great filming.

Do the eggs that drifted away still hatch?
