It was never released in the US! I was a massive fan since the beginning, and I could never find the LP or CD in San Francisco at the time for love or money. They were so screwed by their record company.
This entire album is genius from start to finish. A brave change of direction that people didn't get. And it really played to Willson-Piper's strengths as a guitarist. Anyone who likes the sound should check out the massive Church discography as well.
Met Julianne last night at Lol Tolhurst book signing. She was so friendly, down to Earth & really happy to be asking questions to Lol. She graciously signed my ticket & I explained to her I had twice in the past (1988 & around 1991) tried to meet her after gigs for her autograph but just didn't happen. She now lectures at Bath University after gaining her masters in Songwriting. One of the nicest musicians I've met. Lol was great too & I recommend his memoir 'Cured:The tale of Two Imaginary Boys' Great read.
Quite possibly the most underrated band in the history of Rock music usually love their songs for Julianne,s vocals and lyrics. But this one for the guitars!!! Magic ❤️
A very underrated album that after some twenty of so years later it sounds so good. A classic album and this is a classic track. The public was just not ready for this change of direction sadly at that time.
It was impossible to find in the shops, no wonder it didn't do better in the charts. I finally found it on cassette as well, I still have it. Black sleve with just a blue/pink neon lip print on it.
Before i heard of him, I don't know many names of musicians, not a name person, everyone is dude or bud unless its serious, but he is really good, i saw a vid if them doing a live like i think within the last decade (the 2010s) and he looked a bit old, a bit like what I would call a man happy i his skin, like i am, but he still had it, fucking tight as the particular purchase entry if you get me😃
Superb song from a very fine album. I bought a copy on Ebay for about £45 in 2002. A few weeks later another copy was up for sale but stuck on about £10, so I put in a few bids to drive the price up - I didn't want some chancer getting a copy on the cheap after I'd just paid a hefty price for mine. So I bid it up to over £50... and then of course the other bidders disappeared and I had to buy it. Never mind - still the proud owner of two copies of "Ultraviolet" and still a huge AAE fan. :)
i saw them do this live at manchester students union truly awesome, best live band ive ever seen, ive seen every one from zepplin to queen and these guys are the best..
I'm going to echo the other comment; I've been so anxious for someone to post this, my favorite video of theirs. I love the fact that for a brief moment, all four members had completely interchangeable hairstyles.
Brilliant band. Saw them a few times. This album upset a lot of fans but I liked it. Saw them live when they toured the album and they were booed off at the end as they played the whole gig and didn’t say a word… and reworked their older numbers.
Oooh atmospheric!! Is Julianne gonna suddenly morph into a werewolf? This song has that vibe 2 it. Thank u 4 putting this up! I've never heard this b4 but it's v. cool. Shame it's not on her Greatest Hits like a lot of others!
@JFROXY Intelligence, integrity, curiosity, rebellion; That's why these people produced such great music in the first place. The audience are wankers for wanting them to play the same shit forever. Ultraviolet is a record I will be listening to for the rest of my life. It's deep, dense, mysterious and entrancing like Massive Attack's "Protection" or My Blood Valentine's "Loveless". Kudos to AAE for not kow towing to the wankers.
@JFROXY Heckling at new material is just piss-poor behaviour, likely the band would have been happy to play older songs throughout the show or in the encore. Personally, I love Ultraviolet and think the more of the band for not skipping like a broken (but safe) record to please a particular cohort of fans.
I was at that King Tuts gig and they were awful. I believe the quote was "If you don't like it you can fuck off". The sad thing was that songs like this one were actually ok.
They don’t make music like they used too bring out the legends again who can play an instrument instead of computers so so sad so much talent in one band here x
I saw them preview the "Ultraviolet" album in King Tuts in Glasgow, where Julianne told the heckling members in the audience to "fuck off" when they started to bemoan the lack of older material. Eh, bad mistake, especially in Glasgow, as I think most of their fans did just that and didn't buy the aforementioned new album. Which in truth was a terrible change of direction for the band, it pissed off the more happy-go-lucky goths and subsequently ended their career....shame really.
I loved All About Eve previous albums and when I first heard this album it was a huge disappointment, I never really got into it. So having not listened for a number of years I put it on today, and I've just got to vent! The songs are alright, but the production is terrible, vocals have no mids, they're just whispers, the bass and drums are buried in the mix, the guitar is overpowering (and how about we put that wah away for a bit eh?), and several songs end in a horrible cacophony of noise. This could have been so much better, was this really intentional?
@JFROXY mmmhhh it's them turnin' in Shoegazing territory as Lush, Curve or Ride etc...apparently quite different from their previous records ... but i can't talk that much about them... i just discovered their music a few days ago :) I discovered at the same time The Church (Wilson-Piper is a member) who made some excellent song and videos here on youtube
Love the Ultraviolet album. Shame it didn't sell more. It has a darker feel than previous AAE albums. To my mind the album is underrated.
I'm sad I missed it at the time - I'm loving this track.
Totally agree, their best album and so underated, this track reminds me of a Pink Floyd track somehow from Piper At The Gates
It was never released in the US! I was a massive fan since the beginning, and I could never find the LP or CD in San Francisco at the time for love or money. They were so screwed by their record company.
@@drude060 if I remember rightly, even in the UK it was withdrawn after a few weeks by the record company;(
dream wow, I never heard that.

MWP what a genius, i love The Church, fav band
I adore this album and agree with your points. Deserves to be played
LOUD!
Yeah the church are cool
Hope someone is listening.
Brilliant tune 🎶 👌 Criminal how underrated this band are.

@@PeterAllanCobbbritishboy these kind of thing's are always worth sharing with fellow fans.

Quite possibly the most underrated band in the history of Rock music usually love their songs for Julianne,s vocals and lyrics. But this one for the guitars!!! Magic ❤️
The back end of Outshine the Sun for the same reason.
I love this song & the visuals are so dreamy?
Julianne is star!
Mesmerizing and majestic; one of their best songs - just sweeps you away. And Julianne is bewitching !
A very underrated album that after some twenty of so years later it sounds so good. A classic album and this is a classic track. The public was just not ready for this change of direction sadly at that time.
I love this band! What a stunning woman 😍
Her range of spooky singing still provokes me.
I remember buying the cassette and listening to it again and again. I loved every track. Julianne looked fab in this video.
It was impossible to find in the shops, no wonder it didn't do better in the charts.
I finally found it on cassette as well, I still have it. Black sleve with just a blue/pink neon lip print on it.
Marty Wilson-Piper is just a flat out BEAST. On my top ten of favorite guitarists for sure.

One of the best songs of the 90s, brilliant.
Julianne Regan! A legend! Go girl! :-) xxx
This album was way ahead of its time, I was always a huge AAE fan, juliennes voice is mesmerising, still listen to this in the car!
Love this song - Julianne's voice is amazing?
Thank You 🙏 Pip X
fell in love years ago....still am lol
I am so happy hearing this song again their music takes you where u loved💚

Great video, love all their albums but Ultraviolet is far and away my favourite. Really miss them!
She has such a beautiful voice. I'd highly recommend checking out the video of them performing it in 2001, she sounds even better live.
Underrated album, thanks for uploading this.
What a voice and what a band !
I love this lady's voice? 🦋

I was at that gig
Nice guitar work by Marty Willson-Piper!
love this song
I was there too. Saw lots of gigs on that tour.
This was a brilliant album. Probably my favourite of theirs.
I never tire of this song
I'm going to echo the other comment; I've been so anxious for someone to post this, my favorite video of theirs. I love the fact that for a brief moment, all four members had completely interchangeable hairstyles.
Thanks a lot! I've been listening to AAE for 10 years (I'm a bit late I confess) and this is my first time watching an AAE video!
Oh man - I love this song. Think it was the first CD single I ever bought.
Happy memories.
Thank you for posting this video: been waiting for it for years since this site started.
Phenomenal song, band and guitar work by Marty Wilson Piper.
fantastic song! it just makes you to drift with it!
This is from the last (studio)album they did with Marty Willson-Piper on guitar, Phased. Well worth getting a copy of it. Brilliant stuff.
Another AAE treasure 👍🏻👌🏻 miss this song so much from time to time ❤
Thanks loads for getting this on here xxx

I saw them a the QMU in Glasgow. I thought this was an awesome album. Liked their old stuff but this was a welcome and unexpected shift.
A brilliant song like so many have said a very underrated album. Ultraviolet is actually my favourite album of theirs.

Just because this band was underrated, the bunch of other bands successfully use AAE sound today. Yo! Hi Deftones! What are you doing here?
I am amazed this song - it's eternal 🦋
I love this track so much🦋
fantastic. thankyou for posting.
my favourite song
Love this band. So underrated
Thousandth like, 🙌 on this great song!

This is their best song, followed closely by Flowers in Our Hair.
This is the best!
Love it!
Great song dream like and hypnotic
By far their best album for me
I like this song, I might try to get hold of the album if I can...

Well I love this one :-)
Amazing work? 🦋
Great times..
Touched By Jesus and Ultraviolet were, thanks to Marty Willson-Piper, their best albums by a mile
good god yes ...
🖤🖤🖤🖤
I'm a little bit feel that hearing The Cure with a great female singer
Can you still buy this album? I heard the record company (MCA) had deleted it from their catalogue.
ultraviolet best album ever

I love it. It's one of my favourites by them. It's all a matter of taste eh?
Yes, it was 100% intentional.
@@JulianneReganMusic That was a surprise reply, thanks! Hope i wasnt too scathing, seems a lot of people did like it though
@@1171karl Not a problem. You're entitled to your opinion. I just feel that it's important that we as a band 'own' what we did.
