Possibly one of the 80s greatest songs
We are friends
Both songs.
Not possibly....THE best
This live version just shows what brilliant musicians they all were ❤
Vastly underrated, a real gem of the Eighties! Brilliant, indeed!
Under Rated in your mind maybe…
@@cbennett196631 I’m fine with that.
Brilliant Mind is just such a wonderful, wonderful song.
folkdisco yea...Some Kjnd
I agree completely
Beautiful
This totally got me through my depression years ago. I took massive overdose (70 tramadol) but after being hospitalised then sectioned I started listening to this and it’s my go to song when I start to feel down
I agree. Always have...
Furniture is for connoisseurs only. Exquisite music, thank you.
My life has gone by so quickly.
It’s not over yet, my friend. We may even get fifty more years.
Brilliant minds is and always will be in my top 5 of songs ever, always remember the first time I heard it and went straight to the music store and got it on 12".
Here we are 2018 fall, Portland Oregon listening to these wonderful songs.
God bless you tube. Saw this live. How TV has changed - who would now punt a 100% live music show from Newcastle on Friday tea-time? Visionary stuff C4. "MIss You" was indeed a magnificent piece. Great post, thanks for sharing
I envy you... :) one of my all time greatest songs!. A Classic! Love it!.
flashtheoriginal agreed.. but who would want to punt a live show such as this with the shite that’s touted as music nowadays 🙁
All that with a broken drum set and background singer who is outside of the range. Still sounds better than 95% of today's music!
When I heard this at 15 years old in 1985, I threw out all the music I owned (Phil Collins?) and started over. Suddenly music spoke to me and had something to say about my life. It was like a brick through a window.
I loved Furniture. Brilliant Mind brings back some great memories and this performance was just superb. Thanks for posting.
30 years a go they have visited my town in exYugoslavia...great concert, great evening...since then I think this is one of the best male vocal...and The Wrong People is one of thosealbums that make me smile and happy....Thank you Jim & Co for that...
Brilliant Mind was on the 'Some Kind of Wonderful' Movie Soundtrack. One of the quirky soundtrack from the late 80's. Love this tune.
JIM GRINNELL and what a great film too.. Mary Stewart masterson OOOOFF
Love the film and the soundtrack
A great version of The Hardest Walk by JAMC on that soundtrack
The soundtracks to John Hughes films all had brilliant underrated songs on them. Brilliant Mind is one of my favourite songs.
I saw this episode. I had just split up with my girlfriend. God I miss The Tube and TV that was brave, flawed and yet brilliant. So much talent there. And we were drawn to it so much more than the polished nonsense we are now fed.
Outstanding timeless brilliant minds of Furniture. Mindless is the music of today. Hugely underrated song.
Fabulous song. Got to see twice in Nottingham.
Taped this off the tele at the time and wore the tape out! 'brilliant' to see again!
Anyone out there 2019?
I'd forgotten all about this song and group. I used to sing Brilliant mind all the time when i was out,one of my favourites.
Thanks for this...was lucky enough to see them live a few times..this should have been a number one single.....perhaps the best expression of lost love in popular music ever......
Jim Irvin has such a wonderful voice...
How the hell did this never get in the top ten is beyond me 😢😢
The drummer has great skill - really great sound
The main reason I was looking for a live version on YT, I was not disappointed! Camera caught some great shots of him too
Great Voice.
LOVE
Some early melancholic simpleminds sounds there
That is music!!! No other words...
Still a epic track in 2020
WOW< thanks for this very RARE piece! I adore Furniture and to have this live performance on the mighty Tube is BRILLIANT!
Just the best, unbelievable. A++++++
I went to a school reunion last weekend and was told that the singer in this group was in my class. Jim if you ever see this, look for the TVGS 1970 group on Facebook.
Watts !!!!
This is the stuff, man. True talent in so many ways.
sublime
Yes, Brilliant Mind...Brilliant Song.

The Wrong People finally released on cd and available at i-tunes! Finally! Brilliant Mind is without doubt my favourite 80's track. Sublime, thanks for posting!
Wow, thanks for this. I bloody loved The Wrong People!
We must all be out of our brilliant minds, and he is not trying to look like Steve Harley at all! Beautiful.
A long long lost favourite...
@4.50 Ok chaps this is how we we set the standard
Awesome band.
My favourite performance from The Tube: I Miss You was spellbinding
Sally Still on bass. I used to work with her brother Michael back in 1988 at a printers in Holborn.
Sally, if you read this please can you let me know what your brother is up to these days?
@@ZeldaFitz i thought it was jo brand
Wow. Just. Wow.
Love it!
Love this. Used to go see them all the time in 80's
4:54 is where the relay good part starts.
exellent drummin
Yes, that's an excellent point. I agree with you
Amazing
Wow-never saw this version. But sadly yet another that chops the sax solo which is the pinnacle of the song!?!? Still a great song and a great bassist and bass line.
Awesome !👍👍👍
GogMutherFuckin Damnit. This was really good. Didn't know a woman was on bass. Fucking Sweet.
wow thats all just wow!

I salute you, my friend.

4:45
ooh that must have been nice for you :)
Obviously 11 people who do not have a clue as of 19/05 /2020
No one wants to listen ... cause everybody's YELLING! +
Hey furniture may we borrow your equipment?
The cymbal is broken on the drummer's left side.
Tial
Not sure
@rouens Is Paula Yates dead now?
She is
@michelformika - how do you know the set was broken. Just out of interest.
novamotel23 - you can see that it’s split and a sharp edge is sticking up.
@londrinho Oh yes, she did, i forgot. Thanks anyway, I was pissed out of my face when I asked that. You forget who is dead and who is alive!!
We
A very similar vibe to Pulp
Way before pulp though
I agree. That slightly off key sound is similar. Acrylic Afternoons?
@@saveygirl8198 Pulp started in 1981
@@ZeldaFitz Pulp sounded nothing like this in 1981 or 1986, they were still ripening nicely
Amazing song stunning . But doesnt the bass player looked totally bored!
I didn’t know Dawn French was a guitarist
😁😁😁😁
k why are you so mad
Paula just no personality
Disagree. I liked her understated style; vulnerable yet strong. At the end of this clip the vision cuts to Muriel Gray and it ends before she says "oooh Furniture, couple of Tall Boy's' in that band". Crap joke from a so called presenter who had zero personality but thought she was witty and urbane. She wasn't... Paula Yates was vulnerable yet strong whereas Muriel Gray was overbearing yet inconsequential.
@@flashtheoriginal Pauls was so fantastic on The Tube, I love her style of hosting. It was quiet but full of personality and not condescending like Muriel Gray who was a straight arse B!TCH
