You were so determined to keep only what you want to colour. That's such a good idea to hold in our minds. We can be tempted to buy books because they are the fashion and everyone wants them at the same time. I don't do that anymore. Neither do I want every book by an artist. If I have one and I love it, I might get another. But I won't just because they exist. I love Rita Burman's Europe book and have coloured several pictures in it. I don't want the Asia or African ones. I love the under the water book of hers but don't have the on land one. I love Circle of Life, but don't have the others. I have one Klara Markova and won't get others because of the price and like you, I'm no that enamoured of the images. I like them to a degree, but not a degree enough to colour many of them. I like the Topps books by Crystal Vogal too. But I only have one. I've never understood the appeal of the Erie books. I've been colouring now for years. I have one full shelf and under a 1/4 of another shelf of books. Probably equivalent to about 3 of your cubes. And I have some Colouring Heaven magazines in magazine storage box thing. It's enough. When I see something lovely, I will buy it after I've thought about it. Same goes for supplies now. I love pencils and I really like markers. I began as a watercolour painter so I love paints too. But I don't need all the new things. I fell for the distress inks once upon a time but I've never used them in a colouring book as I don't have the right touch. It's good to find a kindred spirit going for the "less is more" approach. And I too think it's a bit odd to publish Amazon wish lists. I use mine for Christmas. I hope you are enjoying your reduced book collection and finding it less daunting to select a picture.
@suewilkinson910 I was Sue, very determined! I don't like having stuff "for the sake of it". I've helped a lot of hoarders over the years and when you see unused in bags and boxes from 10, 20, 50 years ago it does help change your mindset about "collecting" stuff. I was definitely on the bandwagon for a while, watching hauls, buying the latest book by an artist even though the others were uncoloured. Ending up with too many books, too much choice, sometimes I wish I had one book, one set of pencils 😅 I'm much happier with less books and currently colouring more... and now have to work through the rest of my supplies too! When you decided to let the tomislav tomic go I was thinking, “no keep them” because here in Canada I can’t get them easily without being willing to give away my first born. I so wish those books would be reprinted. Kidding aside I admired your decisiveness. Well done!
@karacrawford7393 Interestingly... I decided to keep them. I looked them up and saw they were discontinued and looked through them again. They are beautiful images and I think I will colour in them... one day 🥰

I just stumbled upon your channel and laughed so hard when you pointed out the giant turtle head in "Sea of Color book". I agree with you on the Klara Markova books. The faces do not appeal to me. I do love the paper and most illustrations without faces but I don't reach for those books as often as I do with other books in my collection. I really appreciate your honest opinion of these artists. You have said exactly what I have been thinking.

Ooooooooh gosh as a beginner in this world of colouring, I would sell my soul (well, maybe half, the other half has already gone haha) for those books 😮😮😮
I got rid of a lot of colouring books and now only have one shelf left. I will never complete all those books in my lifetime, so unless I see a very, very unusual book, I won't be buying any more.
@leonnehaaijman4709 I feel the same Leonne. I have some Japanese books to pick up from the office tomorrow and not sure which of those I'll keep now. I've got plenty of all different genres to keep my happy for the foreseeable future.

I am completely with you on the Klara Markova. I don't like the style. And my least favourite is Emelie Lidehall Oberg for weird faces! I am not actually that keen on Hanna Karlzon or Maria Trolle either, but I do have one each of theirs which I did fancy. I am like you, if I don't love the style, I am not inspired to colour in them! I wish I did though because they all have beautiful harback books! A declutter vid is always cathartic, even if I oooohed over a couple you got rid of!!

Wow! my ear drums will never be the same again Lol.... Before anyone jumps down Lilys throat about getting rid of books I gave her DON'T in that note I also told her to Keep, Pass on or Sell. No one should be made to feel guilty to keep stuff given to them. So my words to you again Lily is don't keep any if you don't like them, sell it and get Robbie some chews Lol. Also if you have to think too long on an item it really means it's not for you just let it go. I have let go of all my RJ ones and some hard back ones still making a few teaks here and there (will email you with photo when done so). Even if your bookshelves looks a little empty remember it's because you are getting them down to what you really like in the present day and you can combine small groups onto one shelf that's what I did it makes it look less overwhelming. Hope this helps and enjoy the ones you REALLY want to do (not the imaginary self) love and hugs to you all 😘😉

Since my colouring skills have improved, I've become a colouring book snob. The paper quality is the number 1 reason I buy a book because I get annoyed when my Polys don't behave. I know now what my colouring looks at its best and I want it every time I sit at my art table.

I get what you're saying about the Klara Markova books. I do love them but I feel that way about the Hannah Karlson books. I already did a colouring book purge a couple of months back and now I want to do another after watching this, lol.
@TheArtSpirits I feel that way about Hanna Karlzon books too. The last two haven't been so bad but the ones with faces with nose rings etc are not for me! Having less books is sooooo freeing! 🥰

I agree about Klara Markova . Her style is just not my favourite. The faces .. and the eyes ( 🤔) I think the price is really ridiculous as well . But every one is entitled to their own opinion. ( I’m in Canada and shipping is almost as much as each of her books ) 😂
@lovetobecolouring2 They are decent quality books (hardback, nice paper) but not my taste in art style, I know what you mean about the faces, they're very... immature looking. The books are super expensive over here too!

Great video Lily. I've decluttered some colouring books & then the ones I wasn't sure about I put separately & if I've not used them in say 12 months they will go. Like you I love jigsaws, diamond painting & I've many more colouring books than I will realistically use! 😊😊
I did a similar thing Judith. When I went through my books last year I popped some I wasn't sure about on a table in the spare room. I then popped all the ones I was decluttering in this video (which was filmed back in March) on that table too. Only now, when I was ready to list them on eBay did I know what I definitely wanted to go. I did pull 2-3 out but the rest I didn't miss and when I saw them again had no feelings about them (I actually thought they'd gone already - out of sight out of mind!) I'm very into my Jigsaws at the moment (always happens this time of year!) and I'm also not a great colourist (I prefer easy images, colour-by-number, markers etc) so the real busy complicated books are daunting to me!
I love your de clutters lily. Gives me the kick up the bum i need. So I've just filled a bag whilst watching you, lol. But thank you for showing the bamboo marker storage in your last video.....I bought 2. Holds much more than the ohuhu ones and cheaper 🎉 hope you're well rested now.

Do you ever save only particular pages you really want and give the rest away? I had a five-book folio that I finally admitted I will never do any in two of the books and pulled them out. Gave the pages to my nephew to colour when he visits. I held on to those a long LONG time- so glad I let them go!
No, I've not done that. I like keeping my books intact. I did briefly buy books if they were series to "get the set" but I stopped doing that a while ago. I only keep the books I know I'll colour 🥰

Rita Berman...I love my Land & Water books. Not keen on the Asien & Europa books, I've barely touched them & thats the reason I haven't bought the Africa one.
They are very different aren't they? I don't have the land/water under the microscope ones, the bugs put me off! I do like the Seasons ones (except Autumn 😆)

i do have some pet peeves with the Klara Markova ones too. The Books are nice quality-wise. Good Paper, Hardcover... but i'm always debating to throw them out, because i can't look past the weird anatomic choices or lack thereof. The Feet are the worst offender for me. They look...slouchy/sloppy (i'm not sure of the correct verb in english. In german i call it "schlabberig", like the feet have no bones to them). I do like the pictures without charcters in it, which are not the majority. Maybe it's time to get rid off them. Or make them WIP/Test Books or something. EdIt: Looking through them rn, as i only have the frist four books and there are more pictures without the weird elves than i remembered. Keeping them as WIP Books/Test Books... lol But i'm a sucker for scenes and whimsical kinda stuff (big fan of Hanna Karlzon and Eriy for that reason). and as i'm trying to colour more with bright colours and not so much realistic, these books will be a good training exercise for me.

@@ArtJourneyUK i agree with you. And they are not particularly my style either. Weirdly enough, i would say i like the first two books the most (Carovne Lahodnosti and Tenderful Enchantments), because they have the least amount of characters in them. The Characters that they are there however are really, really bad though. I'm kinda still debating if i really want to keep them. Flip flopping hard rn. I want to completely change how i colour. I've been always on the realistic side of things. I have recently seen some brightly coloured pages, with colours that don't necessarily match reality and i really am gravitating towards these. I really related hard, when you said, that you bought two copies of a book, because you wanted to practise in one. That's the only reason why i kinda want to keep them, to practise in these books with a new technique and colour palettes.
@@ArtJourneyUK Thanks for letting us know about those yellowing markers...total deal breaker! Shame that your pages got damaged, too. Were those the only Ohuhu markers that did that? (I followed your link, and noted those particular markers). Hoping that their other markers don't perform similarly. btw...great declutter, good job! I totally agree about "things growing out of other things", it creeps me out too. I really did not care for 90% of the images in those particular books. I recall one pic with mushrooms growing out of a sleeping animal. It just reminded me of dead things decomposing. Not my bag. Take care :)
Yes, there are other markers that cause the yellowing (generally the cheapy ones) but only those Ohuhu ones. I spoke to Ohuhu about it at the time and they confirmed those slim markers were not made by them (they're not available on their website) and they're a whitelabeled product.

I totally understand what you mean. I work full time, but I'm not married, so I don't have to take care of a grown adult which is a full time job on it own, so I have a lot more time to color.

Agree, no animals with flowers/leaves filled in, especially when they are teeny tiny. Animals with things growing out of them gives me the ick too, reminds me of bugs burrowing under the skin... shuddering just typing that, sorry lol. I bought the Colin Thomson just to colour with my Inktense, same with The Ink House although that is still sat in my Amazon basket now I come to think of it 🤣, it can stay there until Christmas when I do what you do, have a list of smallish things that my family can see. The subtle and not so subtle E-begging really turns me off a creator, there is one lovely lady that comes to mind, I really enjoyed her videos but unsubbed from (obs not going to name her) due to the (IMO) e-begging inc. dropping 'hints' that she couldn't afford a new chair ! All creators deserve to get something out of being on the tubes whether it's freebies or adsense etc. but I'll shut up now before I say too much and offend someone 🤣🤣 Anyhoo, I'm not buying any books or 'stuffs' atm, I've had to replace my whole wardrobe inc. bras and knick knacks due to losing weight, 5 st 8 lb and counting, also not coloured for yonks 🤣 Take care Lily of the Internet xx

I always wonder what I'm missing as everyone else seems to love these illustrations! And I agree, the hardback books with beautiful paper are lovely, I just wish the art was more my style! .

Before anyone jumps down Lilys throat about getting rid of books I gave her DON'T in that note I also told her to Keep, Pass on or Sell. No one should be made to feel guilty to keep stuff given to them.
So my words to you again Lily is don't keep any if you don't like them, sell it and get Robbie some chews Lol. Also if you have to think too long on an item it really means it's not for you just let it go.
I have let go of all my RJ ones and some hard back ones still making a few teaks here and there (will email you with photo when done so). Even if your bookshelves looks a little empty remember it's because you are getting them down to what you really like in the present day and you can combine small groups onto one shelf that's what I did it makes it look less overwhelming. Hope this helps and enjoy the ones you REALLY want to do (not the imaginary self) love and hugs to you all 😘😉

Since my colouring skills have improved, I've become a colouring book snob. The paper quality is the number 1 reason I buy a book because I get annoyed when my Polys don't behave. I know now what my colouring looks at its best and I want it every time I sit at my art table.

I get what you're saying about the Klara Markova books. I do love them but I feel that way about the Hannah Karlson books. I already did a colouring book purge a couple of months back and now I want to do another after watching this, lol.

Great video Lily. I've decluttered some colouring books & then the ones I wasn't sure about I put separately & if I've not used them in say 12 months they will go. Like you I love jigsaws, diamond painting & I've many more colouring books than I will realistically use! 😊😊
I did a similar thing Judith. When I went through my books last year I popped some I wasn't sure about on a table in the spare room. I then popped all the ones I was decluttering in this video (which was filmed back in March) on that table too. Only now, when I was ready to list them on eBay did I know what I definitely wanted to go. I did pull 2-3 out but the rest I didn't miss and when I saw them again had no feelings about them (I actually thought they'd gone already - out of sight out of mind!)
I'm very into my Jigsaws at the moment (always happens this time of year!) and I'm also not a great colourist (I prefer easy images, colour-by-number, markers etc) so the real busy complicated books are daunting to me!

I'm a bandwagon jumper too! I had a couple of the Little Town Books before but ended up passing them on. They're cute, but I never coloured in them.

Do you ever save only particular pages you really want and give the rest away? I had a five-book folio that I finally admitted I will never do any in two of the books and pulled them out. Gave the pages to my nephew to colour when he visits. I held on to those a long LONG time- so glad I let them go!
No, I've not done that. I like keeping my books intact. I did briefly buy books if they were series to "get the set" but I stopped doing that a while ago. I only keep the books I know I'll colour 🥰
The C. Vogls books very much remind me of books from my childhood (1970s). Not sure how she does it!

Rita Berman...I love my Land & Water books. Not keen on the Asien & Europa books, I've barely touched them & thats the reason I haven't bought the Africa one.

i do have some pet peeves with the Klara Markova ones too. The Books are nice quality-wise. Good Paper, Hardcover... but i'm always debating to throw them out, because i can't look past the weird anatomic choices or lack thereof. The Feet are the worst offender for me. They look...slouchy/sloppy (i'm not sure of the correct verb in english. In german i call it "schlabberig", like the feet have no bones to them). I do like the pictures without charcters in it, which are not the majority.
Maybe it's time to get rid off them. Or make them WIP/Test Books or something. EdIt: Looking through them rn, as i only have the frist four books and there are more pictures without the weird elves than i remembered. Keeping them as WIP Books/Test Books... lol But i'm a sucker for scenes and whimsical kinda stuff (big fan of Hanna Karlzon and Eriy for that reason). and as i'm trying to colour more with bright colours and not so much realistic, these books will be a good training exercise for me.
The illustrations are not really my style. Like you say the books are great quality but the images are somewhat odd. What book has the least weird images do you think?
@@ArtJourneyUK i agree with you. And they are not particularly my style either. Weirdly enough, i would say i like the first two books the most (Carovne Lahodnosti and Tenderful Enchantments), because they have the least amount of characters in them. The Characters that they are there however are really, really bad though.
I'm kinda still debating if i really want to keep them. Flip flopping hard rn. I want to completely change how i colour. I've been always on the realistic side of things. I have recently seen some brightly coloured pages, with colours that don't necessarily match reality and i really am gravitating towards these.
I really related hard, when you said, that you bought two copies of a book, because you wanted to practise in one. That's the only reason why i kinda want to keep them, to practise in these books with a new technique and colour palettes.
I'm totally with you. I would say, they are expensive practice books, so you could sell yours and make some money back. Worth thinking about 🥰
Do you know if those were those Ohuhu markers on the matchstick mouse books that bleed yellow to the other pages?

btw...great declutter, good job! I totally agree about "things growing out of other things", it creeps me out too. I really did not care for 90% of the images in those particular books. I recall one pic with mushrooms growing out of a sleeping animal. It just reminded me of dead things decomposing. Not my bag. Take care :)
Yes, there are other markers that cause the yellowing (generally the cheapy ones) but only those Ohuhu ones. I spoke to Ohuhu about it at the time and they confirmed those slim markers were not made by them (they're not available on their website) and they're a whitelabeled product.

I totally understand what you mean. I work full time, but I'm not married, so I don't have to take care of a grown adult which is a full time job on it own, so I have a lot more time to color.

Agree, no animals with flowers/leaves filled in, especially when they are teeny tiny. Animals with things growing out of them gives me the ick too, reminds me of bugs burrowing under the skin... shuddering just typing that, sorry lol.
I bought the Colin Thomson just to colour with my Inktense, same with The Ink House although that is still sat in my Amazon basket now I come to think of it 🤣, it can stay there until Christmas when I do what you do, have a list of smallish things that my family can see.
The subtle and not so subtle E-begging really turns me off a creator, there is one lovely lady that comes to mind, I really enjoyed her videos but unsubbed from (obs not going to name her) due to the (IMO) e-begging inc. dropping 'hints' that she couldn't afford a new chair ! All creators deserve to get something out of being on the tubes whether it's freebies or adsense etc. but I'll shut up now before I say too much and offend someone 🤣🤣
Anyhoo, I'm not buying any books or 'stuffs' atm, I've had to replace my whole wardrobe inc. bras and knick knacks due to losing weight, 5 st 8 lb and counting, also not coloured for yonks 🤣
