Hello Sir, if you idle standing still with no gear in, and you hear a noice from the rear part of the primary, and this noice disappears when you pull the clutch and put 1st gear in, then it is the inner primary bearing and race which has failed. The remedy is to replace the race and the bearing. I did this on my 2006 FXDL. I also replaced the stock tensioner with the Hayden tensioner. Still it works fine. Good luck!
Look up at the inside of the primary cover and see if your chain has been nicking it as that may account for your metal particles in the oil. On the sportsters and older Evo motors the push block is solid manually adjusted and not automatic so you do not have this problem. See if you can find a manual old style push block to replace your semi auto ratchet version.
This is the actual only video I've seen where you show the noise from the primary itself. In my specific case I have a whistling sound when I slow down recently that sounds like a bomb being dropped out of an airplane. It's very faint but you can hear it when the clutch is pulled in and you're coasting up to a stop light
Had the same noise on my wifes 06 dyna . it was the bolts in the rotor housing ,over the stator. Bad design, Harley changed it in 07 and made it one peace.
the solution, put it back together and ride the damn thing .you can chase noises all day long and never find anything.except a good case of nervous tension.it's a great product have some faith!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bro you hit the nail in the head .this has to be the best comment on here. I'm 56 years old been riding since I was 16. I think I spent 15 of my 30 years listening to odd noises and not enjoying the ride, the next 15 I forgot about them. and now..l Just enjoy the ride👍🤟🤟
Its not oil i checked and oil was full its problem with the engine light and battery light staying on when engine is running and battery light saying not charging but the scraping noise from left side of engine i wont know until my harley Davison shop looks at it and puts it on dionysius computer
YOu really want to fix it ? I pulled the chain drive out ; and replaced it with a 3 inch belt drive. That was over 10K miles ago, on my 99 twin cam, still works just fine and dandy. Harley will never go with a primary belt drive. They are too robust, and dealers would take a huge hit in "shop income" not fixing primary chain drive problems......
Nice brother good move, I was thinking it myself ...do you hear anything, do you feel any vibration with the belt? Do you have to have a wider primary?
@@-MrRichBiker1967 my belt kit had a bearing that rattled. maybe to discourage guys from running a belt drive ... easy to fix ... I also owned a 1981 FXSB. Same factory primary belt. i put a lot a miles on that bike....
Not sure. I replaced the slider cam in the compensator (behind the front primary sprocket) and the primary oil (went from Bel Ray to HD Syn3) and it has quieted down. There is still a little noise, but nothing like it was. Comparing the new to old slider cams, the peaks on the old one had about .020 wear. I have the factory exhaust, so I can hear a lot of mechanical noise from the engine. I think this is normal since there are a lot of moving parts. The clacking noise I had was something that got louder over time and it did not sound normal. Probably wouldn't hear it if I had louder pipes though. Thanks, LB
@@carminedeprisco1346 I replaced the slider cam and it seemed to fix the problem. I have since traded it in on another bike. It was still running fine (no clacking noise) when I traded it.
Yes. I replaced the compensator forged ramp piece and it quiet down. It appeared to be worn. Harley doesn’t offer a replacement part, so I had to buy it after market. I traded this bike in on a Heritage Softail a few years ago. I now have another Super Glide (08 anniversary). I really like the Dynas from this vintage.
what kind of a video was this...you had your head in the way and never told us the problem.....probably wouldn't do me any good to ask you what the cure was.....?
Often guys post videos on UA-cam so they can send a link to a mechanic or something like that, not so much for public to view. UA-cam just uses their algorithm to suggest it to you.

Did you ever solve it?
sounds just like mine!!!! i thought it was my damn adjustable pushrods that i adjusted 9 million times
I uploaded the Gasket and Seal 🦭 Part numbers for everyone 1994-2006 so you don’t have to chase down part numbers thanks for the helpful video
Thank you very much, my mechanic says he likes to use everything Jim's
It's the chain tensioner that chops teeth. the best thing is to weld it on, you still have the suspension.
So please tell us, what was the problem?
Inner primary bearing.
It,s the Chain tensioner you see That too 1 Click higher
Bom Dia!
Gostaria de verificar com você se conseguiu resolver o problema do barulho? E o que realmente era o problema. Obrigado. Abraço!
Clutch hub bearing
Sounds like a wicked tight spot on the primary chain .
Maybe too much crankshaft runout... makes the chain go tight-loose-tight-loose.... etc.
Looks like it’s low on oil!…
All tractors make that noise man!
06 didnt have guide pins for inner primary they put them in in 07 I read.
does it stop when u pull the clutch in?
Inner primary bearing it seems. My ‘06 Dyna makes the exact same noise.
I'm about to replace the inner primary & clutch basket inner bearing
i have some noise when i have the bike in neutral and then it goes away when i pull the clutch in
Almost looks like the crank bearing. The one so many people replace with a Timken conversion. Looks like the bolt on the front chain drive is wiggling
Can you run primary like that without oil ???
I think this is the noise i have after harley davidson painted my primary..what could of happened..
That's what mine sounds like after I did the cam chest

Is your belt rubbing on the platic guard somewhere far below?
Primary to tight
I went on a ride today and I just noticed that's to I thought I was hearing things what's the best way to fix it
Believe the compensator bolt is lose.
Do you think that because of the wobble? Because mine is doing the same thing
Try a thicker Vis oil. Try some GO 90w.
Install a new primary chain. Inspect sprocket teeth for wear when installing the new chain.
Mine same noise 02 roadking. Mine is belt drive. Did u fix yours?

Tensioner still loose.
Yo corregí un estrepitoso ruido, era el rodamiento del eje principal, estaba machacado, fue en mi RK Classic 2007 model.
The primary chain on vibrating up and down is pulling on the spindle and Let It Go!
Compensator???
My stator screws came loose and were hitting the rotor. Sounds just like that.
What year and model bike was that?

Just junk the automatic chain tensioner and replace it with a manually adjustable one
