      Slight correction.
Most telepaths in the Marvel universe maintain telepathic shields to protect them from the thoughts and feelings of others. If they don't, they can go mad because over time, they lose track of which thoughts and feelings are their own. This is extra bad because an insane telepath can cause a lot of suffering for a lot of people.
So Xavier maintains those shields unless he has a specific reason to lower them.

@Dayspring "art imitates life". Human storytelling is one giant allegory. If someone isn't relaying a historical event (or news report), you're looking at or reading an allegory one way or another. At the very least, the consumer turns it into one. And as far as j.r.r. Tolkien is concerned, the One Ring was the New Testament concept of sin, I don't care what he try to say afterward.

    • @One.Zero.One101
      @One.Zero.One101 Рік тому +4

@Dayspring People misinterpret Tolkien's allegory statement all the time. Tolkien hates obvious allegory like Aslan being Jesus in Narnia. You LITERALLY cannot write a story without allegory. Our stories are based on our experiences. Our characters are based on people we know. Even Tolkien's writings had allegory whether intentional or unintentional

    "This Marvel, but *not* MCU?"
It's *supposed* to all be in the same universe; it is in the comics... BUT, Marvel was close to bankruptcy in the 90's and to stay afloat they had to sell off the movie rights to some of their most popular characters. So Spiderman ended up at Sony, Hulk at Universal, X-Men and Daredevil landed at Fox. Fox started the X-Men franchise first out of all of those. (The *First* 90's Marvel movie was "Blade" which kicked off Marvel's road to recovery and eventually forming their own studio)
HOWEVER (Slight spoiler) now that Disney has acquired both Marvel studios and Fox, there are plans to bring them all together. In the latest MCU movies and in the Deadpool movies, the idea of time travel enables branching, paralel universes is being utilized to bring the various seperate universes together, so you *will* see some of these characters eventually in MCU.

For the longest time, DC was the universe of larger-than-life superheroes (like Superman or the Flash) in bright primary colour spandex costumes. Only with the modern "Man of Steel/Justice League" Snyderverse movies did DC suddenly turn all their heroes into brooding characters in nearly black costumes.

I am kind of surprised you didn't recognize Sir Ian McKellen as Eric Lensher/Magneto...he was also Gandalf in 'Lord of the Rings'.
Of the bad guys, the Brotherhood of Mutants, my favorite is Mystique (aka Blue Girl). In the initial films, she is played by Rebecca Romijn, a former supermodel turned actress. She is now on 'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' as Number One aka Commander Una Chin-Riley of the U.S.S. Enterprise. With 'X-Men: First Class', which takes place before these films...Mystique aka Raven Darkholme is played by Jennifer Lawrence...but Romijn made appearances as an older Raven.
Before playing Wolverine, Hugh Jackman was in London in a major production of Rodger and Hammerstein's 'Oklahoma!', which can be found on video. He played the lead, Curly, and sang "Oh, What A Beautiful Mornin'" among other songs. He has been Wolverine in 9 films total (one as a cameo, and one as archival footage included). He had, initially, hung up the claws with 'Logan' in 2017...but recently announced he will play Wolverine again in 'Deadpool 3'. Originally, Ryan Reynolds appeared in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' as Wade Wilson...and that was his first Deadpool (but they did the character really odd at the end.).
You haven't seen the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy yet...the actor playing Toad is Ray Park, who appears in 'Episode I - The Phantom Menace' as Darth Maul, who is awesome!!! The part of the fight with Storm, where he kicks the metal bar out of the elevator doors and twirls it...that is a very Darth Maul move!
The streak of white in Rogue's hair is from the comics. She has always had it, and in the cartoon from the 90s, she had a huge amount of red hair and a streak of white. The actress playing Rogue is Anna Paquin, who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for 'The Piano' when she was 11 years old (the second youngest Oscar winner in history and it was her film debut). She is also really well known for her role as Sookie Stackhouse in the HBO series 'True Blood'.
Onscreen, Sir Patrick Stewart (Professor Charles Xavier) and Sir Ian McKellan (Eric Lensher/Magneto) are enemies...OFFSCREEN, the two men have become the most amazing BFFs. They are both Shakespearean actors and legends in that field but they never worked together until this film. Their friendship is so close that when Stewart married his current wife, McKellen officiated.

Also, the helmet that Magneto wears, blocks telepathic powers.. that's why he wears it..

This movie is pretty much what spawned off a LOT of superhero movies which followed and ultimately led to creation of MCU. This was definitely a seminal movie in the pantheon of the superhero genre in movies.
Rogue has that hairstyle because when she absorbed Magneto's powers it was THAT intense it caused her to have a stroke and that's what gave her the blonde hair in front. (It happens in real life, look it up). In the comics she always had that hair style, so this was a neat way of the movies giving her a reason why she has her hair like that.
In my own mind, at least, it still rates as a really great superhero movie.
Definitely see X-Men 2 next.... X-Men 3 didn't do so well at the box office and wasn't very well recieved, but if you're loving the franchise, you should still see it.

The X-Men comic line was launched in the late 60’s. Even though it was a fictional story about fictional characters the underlying story arc was about racism and racial issues. This was a opportunity to address social issues and social commentary with out the problems that could have happened to Marvel for doing so.

X-Men. Absolutely love this franchise. Stan Lee created such an amazing universe. I Watched the cartoons in the 80s and 90s, read the comics played the games. The characters and multi branching story arcs are superb. I can't say enough good things.
Also, I know I'm probably in the minority. I was more on magneto side than professor x. However, I still like both of them. Good choice of actors for both their roles as well!!

X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future-Past, and Logan are great prequels and sequels (one is two-in-one! Lol) The first three will always be the true core of the franchise.

If you like Patrick Stewart who played Xavier, you might like him in a BBC mini-series: I, Claudius. He played a supporting role when he was younger. It's about a sickly boy who stutters and who limps in the time of the Roman Empire. He eventually became Emperor due to a unique set of circumstances.

Rogue's power is a curse, from her perspective. While she can (temporarily) copy superpowers, even multiple ones at the same time, her touch is especially dangerous to non-mutants and she can never physically _touch_ people, making her very lonely. Worse, Rogue not only absorbs power(s), she also absorbs _memories_ from her victims... and she can't control that part, she gets other people's memories (potentially traumatic or psychopathic) in her head whether she wants them or not.

Cerebro didnt detect Mystique just because Xavier wasn't looking for her. If he had looked for her, he would have found her.
Magneto can fly cause he doesn't just control metal, but magnetism. So he can use the Earth's magnetic field to float.
Also, Wolverine has higly improved senses, specially hearing and smelling, that's how he knew that wasnt the real Storm.

I love the X Men movies and I hope you do the rest. X2 is really good and X3 is good, not great but worth watching. Also X-Men First Class, Days of Future Past (witch is great) then Apocolypse which is good, not great then Dark Phoenix which you might as well watch. the 3 Wolverine/Logan solo movies are definitely worth watching too. My favorite X-Men character and comic character in general is Logan/Wolverine because of the healing. The relationship between Xavier and Magneto and the chemistry in the actors is fantastic and gets better and the relationship between Wolverine and Xavier becomes very strong too.
