I built a door for my adobe hut

  • Without a door there was always a cold draft of air that would sweep through the hut at night making it difficult to sleep. I thought long and hard about how I would make a door. The idea finally came to me to make it out of cattail reeds. Cattails are abundant along the edges of shallow ponds and streams. I collected a bundle at a nearby pond then ran into the hills in search of yucca which is the source of fibers I use to make cordage. Once I had acquired all the necessary materials I went to work to put it all together and then spent a more comfortable night sleeping in the hut. The door is a huge improvement!

    Yes, I am a Christian, and of course I find men attractive..I have since I was about 7 yrs old..But my mind doesnt think like "wish I could..." God created man in His image, and if you ever study anatomy, and physiology, you would know how beautiful the human body can be, not just on the outside., as with everything Christ created. Sure, fit humans are in shape, but are their hearts good? When I see this man, I think how wonderful it would of been to see Adam created from the dust, and back again will we go to the dust.. I also think of plants, vegetables, and how we get so much from nature...I praise you Lord Jesus!

    • @ChadZuberAdventures
      @ChadZuberAdventures  6 років тому +1

      Very interesting comment. What exactly led you to write this comment?... And yes, to dust we shall return...

      @@ChadZuberAdventures ,
      I always talk of Jesus..to grocery store clerks, anyone and everyone. And before I go further, thank-you for not responding in a negative way.I was watching how to make pools...and you showed up making shampoo from roots, and Nature is fascinating, so I watched..reminded me of how much better it must have been for Adam and Eve, because at first there was no sin..and I noticed people making vague sexual comments, and I thought, how blind, don't they understand how beautiful our bodies are, esp when we are young and fit...We are made in Christ's image...and our our heart...the person who we are is more important..but, we will at the 2nd Coming all be changed into perfect bodies..I wasn't making a judgment on you, since you are a stranger, but to those who watch and think a buff body is the only thing that matters..You are fit, and "beautiful" on the outside, because you take care of your body, but more than that you are so very beautiful because Christ made you in His image..
      My mother died last yr, Ive been a Christian for 10 yrs..Christ sent me Holy angels in human form when mom first got sick...So I have received alot of blessings...My heart is brokrn..but at nite I get into my bed, put on a natural face cream, put nature sounds on, and visulaize being either by a stream, waterfall or Ocean as my mother and I are nestled against Jesus..I fell in love with Him, and to me, He became the husband I never found. When I was writing, I was showing viewers that you are beautiful, but not in a sexual way, in a way so much more meaningful...Because you would not exist if Jesus did not create Adam..Thank-you for the opportunity to write..I didn't expect anyone to respond. Bless you!

    • @ChadZuberAdventures
      @ChadZuberAdventures  6 років тому +4

      I didn't think you were judging. I just found your comment to be so different. You are correct, many of the comments I receive are of a sexual orientation and that is so shallow and it actually made me depressed for a time. I got over it though. God the Creator is the only One whom we can truly rely on. I feel closest to God and to Christ when I am alone in the wilderness. He has taken good care of me in the wild when in society I often feel battered and worthless however He has sent to me angles in human form with a simple message of encouragement. When it happens it is so clear that it is not by chance but by divine intervention. I love being in the wilderness because I see God's laws in full force without the contamination of man's laws. From the simple pulse of the waves in the sea to the way male and female birds exercise their God-given purpose in preparing a nest and raising their young to continue the species, while we humans in all our great intelligence have corrupted what is good and right for our own selfish lusts of pleasures and comforts. I wish I could live forever to continue exploring and learning the wonderful secrets God has hidden in the beautiful earth He created.

      I found Chad’s vids only 4 maybe 5 days ago and I’m hooked. So relaxing, so educational, so down to earth healthy. Makes me feel embarrassed and realize I need to treat gods temple with more respect and love. Amber, you are right on and to be honest the other reason I continued to watch is, he’s a Christian and shows it with most all he does. It’s easy to say one thing but I’ve watched his actions and his beliefs come out even without words. I skim through the comment section now, because I do not care for a lot of the sexual or suggestive comments and or negative ones. I don’t understand why the dislikes, if one doesn’t like then move on, your not paying to watch. Unfortunately I do read through some just because I love that Chad responds no matter how long ago his video was posted. Some comments are worth the read. God bless you and we are all blessed because of you 🙏

    You're so cool how you just use everything to cut with! Wow, so mind blowing! I apologize for all the comments, I just say as I see you do creative things. It's like you're living primitive! Btw love the sandals, where'd you get them?
    You're sure teaching me a lot! I want to learn more about this!
    In your last video on how to build an Abode hut, how many bricks did you make? And how much thatch did you use to make the roof? And how many feet of the rope did you have to tie the roof off and everything? I hope I got the roofs name right? If not please correct me?
    Thank you again for your awesome documentaries! This should be in DIY magazines step by step like architectures on how to build. Because it wouldn't be easy to be out in the middle of no where with no internet, and watch your builds! Just saying. :-)

    • @ChadZuberAdventures
      @ChadZuberAdventures  6 років тому +2

      I love my sandals. I actually made them. I recycled the soles from an older pair of sandals I bought from lunasandals.com and then used black paracord for the laces. They are quite comfortable but it does take a couple weeks for your feet to get used to them..... I used about 170 bricks to make the hut. I'm making more bricks now for the construction of a barbecue/stove..... I used a LOT of thatch for the roof. Way more than I thought I would need. In one clip of the video it shoes a big pile of dry reeds on the ground. I used a total of about three times that amount..... I needed a lot of rope. That is the most time consuming part, making rope. I don't remember how many feet I used though. For small tie downs I can just use pieces of dry yucca leaves. They work well too.

    Great video man! I'm curious your techniques. Are they based on Aridoamerican cultures? Mesoamerican? Or just readapted ideas to your environment?

    • @ChadZuberAdventures
      @ChadZuberAdventures  6 років тому +6

      Thanks! I don't think my techniques are based on any culture. I get an idea and toss it around in my head for a long time and then start to make it. This idea for the door came after a long time of rejecting other ideas. However, there may be some Mayan influence in some of my work since I've spent lots of time visiting Mayan ruins in Mexico but the final outcome always depends on the materials available to me.

    • @ChadZuberAdventures
      @ChadZuberAdventures  6 років тому

      There are three locations in this video. Cattails provide food year round. The underwater rhizomes can be eaten year round and young shoots are abundant in the springtime. Yucca flower stalks bloom in the spring. The young shoot can be roasted and eaten. Around the hut there are several species of edible plants that are available in the spring after the winter rains such as black sage, early onion, soap plant and miner's lettuce but when summer arrives all the leaves have dried up but there are still the bulbs of the soap plant. They can always be found. In late summer and fall the manzanita berries ripen.

    I like the way how you show yourself stopping to think every so often. Not just constantly doing, but quietly considering & reconsidering your ideas, options, and next sequence of tasks. Not just back in 2018, but you're still doing it in 2021, and that's great to watch. It shows how you still stop to consider and plan, even though in later years you know a lot more about what you want to do and how to go about doing it. Both you and Lonnie from Far North Bushcraft And Survival do a fair bit of your evaluating and considering on-camera, and it's a good example for your viewers to follow.

    Why didn't you make the hut tall enough to stand in?

      Because I want it to be hidden. I don't want some hikers or homeless people to find it and possibly destroy or vandalize it.

      Why not camouflage the roof so it doesn't stand out from an aerial view?
