In December 2018 I purchased a 1989 RRC 3.5 V8 and despite all the neigh sayers, it has been remarkably faultless since. Besides my Triumph Speed Triple 955, it is my everyday transport and has done all sorts of tasks, not least help me move from London to Ireland. It has ferried the old dogs to the vets, the obligatory (and numerous) trips to the rubbish dump, towed a trailer several times carrying all sorts from furniture to a one ton bag of concrete and tomorrow it will be used to help some friends move home. It is truly the most remarkable car I have ever owned and the only drawback is that it's a martyr to the drink!
I have 2 Range Rover V8 Classics here in Maun Botswana, my daily run around is a 1973 model. Works wonderfully especially here in the tough terrain in and around the Okavango Delta.
Many people would not understand your enthusiasm, but this video sure did bring a smile to my face! It's funny how things such as these really do get under our skin & into our hearts! Fantastic video!
If someone asked me what defines being British I think I would say watch this video. I have watched lots of UA-cam videos and this one ranks as one of the nicest. Your face was Priceless. I was smiling with you. Thank you for such a wonderful short movie. Long live Range Rover. :-)
well sir, ienjoyed this as much as you did making it. to see a gentleman taken back to years ago with such a genuine smile on his face was priceless. actually made me tear up a little. thank you for sharing. take care.
I live in Commifornia nearish to LA and bought a wore out 1987 and it is one of the only cars I was regretful when I sold it and I have had close to 100 cars. I grew up in a CJ7 Jeep and I love Jeeps but the range Rover was a great truck and I beat on it wheeling across the Mojave and the ghost towns of the wild west days. Great truck and I am now looking for another.
Pure nostalgia. My dad was an agriculture specialist working in Nigeria, he had a white one in 1973 and later a locally assembled Tuscan blue in 1978, such was my passion from those magic years that I became a technician and worked for Land Rover from 1994-2012 over two continents.Just the sight of a standard Range Rover brought immense delight, it allmost made time stand still, a truly timeless work of engineering and design. No wonder it was exibited at the Louvre museum in Paris as a model of contemporary art.
As a hopeless car collector myself I could not be happier for you. I know what you are experiencing throughout this video and these special moments are what make life worth living.
I had a 1978 (s) 2 door... I (a real amateur) rebuilt it in a barn in 1997. Totally best car I ever had, lots of issues by modern standards, but simple, and luxurious. And fab off road. Once left mine for 5 months, then on a cold morning it started first time and drove like magic.
Just discover your channel and I am simply delighted. I had a 3,5L, 155hp ,V8 much much later. In a country, Cape Verde Islands, where you would not find a single spare for it (nor for most part of vehicles). That sensation of sitting in an aquarium, with an incomparable visibility, that music of the V8 ( very often in mine a V7) and the challenge of being prepared to fix something at any time. No doubt, the most amazing vehicle I had!
DOA675K WAS MY RANGE ROVER FOR 12 YEARS!!!!!! I restored that car for 4 years and when you saw it it was still exactly the same, including the Jansen Range Rover Parts decal right next to the rear numberplate!!! I also put the LPG system and the later type seats it from an In Voque early 2 door. It spend fom early 90's to 2013 in The Netherlands before i had to sell it to an gentleman in Luxemburg.I drove that car to him in person for 400 km one way to deliver it. I love to get in touch to the person who ownes it now. So many memories and pictures made and yes,i'm with you Andrew. I alway have a soft spot for these cars
Glad you were reunited with that part of your life. Looks like you had a fantastic time with your Rover! Enjoy the memories she brought you, and never forget her!!
Mine is a 1972 Suffix A a CKD from Costa Rica, LHD with power steering, Chassis 35900082A , Engine 35507540A ...... I found it in New Hampshire USA partly because of this film ....... Thank you Andrew and Richard Hudson's Dad .
Happy Birthday from Poland. I'm the owner of Discovery 300TDi form 94' and I use it as a car for special occasions. This video encourages me to do so, because I'm not the only one. This car in Poland has a very rough times due to a fact that it is used as a toy, and your video showed me that there are a few of us that will kept those cars alive. And I thank you for that.
My past Range Rover was a 1986 model and that probably helps me understand your obsession. Thank you for making this video it has given this old man joy.
a 1974 2 door was my first 'proper' 4wd. Its dirt road handling scared the crap out of me until I replaced all the worn out suspension bushes, & shockies, and the A arm ball joint. The absolute best axle articulation in the soft coastal tracks of West Australia, I loved driving it to the surf spots. Bliss....
i was the same as you. When i was 17 Dad bought a Tuscan Blue Range Rover in 1985. I was allowed to drive it and loved it. He sold it 5 years later. havent driven one after. I always say i will get one again some day
Absolutely wonderful. I smiled all the way through it, bugger me, at one stage I had a tear in me eye. So many memories of a kid growing up in Manchester during the late 60's early seventies. Thank you Andrew.
Its still one of my favourite videos, and every time I see a RR classic, I get a tear in my eye as well. My dream is to buy a good one, drive it down the length of South America, then bring it home to Australia.
Happy birthday Andrew. Never seen you this happy. A young lad growing up in Kenya at the time it was in production, the RR classic remains my best car to date!
Beautiful video, almost touching. I think everyone has a car that remains in his/her memory for a reason or another. I remember all the ones my father had and thinking of them brings back memories of travels and joyful experiences. I don't know if today there is an offroader comparable to RR Classic; today's Range Rover is such an elite vehicle nobody would - in a distant future - do what you've done here.
Truly the most significant car in my life too. In the 70s for my 13th and 14th birthdays I got my father to rent a range rover for the weekend. My beach time experience involved a near deserted Southport beach. I've owned many LRs for many years and continue to own a couple now.
Kidwelly castle. Pendine sands. Best car ever created and your driving it in the finest part of the world. I miss my Cairngorm brown 3.5L 4 door with tan leather.
A real delight to watch this and see your passion. I am a fan of vehicles of many varieties, and I always say, all vehicles get old, but only some develop character. I would have to say that the Range Rover has a great amount of character, and it was fun watching this video. Thanks
Above all vehicles on the planet, there are none that warm my heart more than the Range Rover. Growing up my father always owned them, and the hum of the rover V8 meant he was finally getting home from work. My first travels through the outback were in the back of one. I learned to drive in one. My first 4x4 was one (although sadly it was a P38a and not a classic like I had always wanted) It's hard to find a nice example these days, great video.
Happy birthday! I bought a second hand Discovery and its very true what they say "Land rovers turning drivers into mechanics since 1948" but i wouldnt have it any other way by far the nicest 4WD i have ever driven - finally subbed as well.
Amazing mate ! I love your passion for this car , I brought same model in 1995 not noting a thing about them . I was blown away what it could do in remote Kimberley where I lived . How easy it was to fix and how bloody comfy it was to o my shinny new LC . Loved that car I was a idiot to sell it for 5k in 2010 .
@@overland-workshop If she WAS prepared for you to arrive home in a white RR, you truly have the perfect marriage. :-) My missus gets nervous every time she catches me browsing old Series Landy's on Autotrader.
I was lucky enough to own a 20th anniversary CSK edition in the mid 90's; all of the style of the original but with niceties such as a 5-speed manual gearbox, electric sunroof, air conditioning, leather interior. Oh, how I miss it!!
Great video. Im from Australia and Pendine sands brought a smile to my face too as remember driving there at 160klm back in 2000 in a little 306 diesel with my brother sitting beside me.
Oh man your face and enjoyment of the vehicle are amazing! I'm lucky enough to own a D2 as my first vehicle I dreamed of owning one since I was younger and lucky enough to have one even if I'm spending alot of time and money here and there under the hood or on upgrades it brings me joy every time I start her up! Land Rover really is the happiest place to be.
I've just bought my first 4x4, and have learned so much since finding your channel on UA-cam. Loving your videos on 4xOverland Andrew. I recognise some of the scenery in this episode, Ogmore Castle and the Stepping Stones with the Swinging Bridge in the background. We often ride from the Rob Williams Stables just up the lane.
it is amazing to see the joy in you with that car, and i totally understand everything about. Beautiful car, I had a v8 efi from late 80s and i smile every time i think of it.
I know and can relate to this feeling of joy. I had a Disco 1 which I lost. If I had an opportunity to drive it again, I would be giddy as a school girl.
What a great video. I love the reverence that is shown for the vehicle, and especially the pictures of Andrew's old rover. Thats what true love looks like.

Such an iconic car. I could really relate to when you mentioned your maintenance diary. I own a 2004 D2 v8 Discovery and keep a very detailed diary of all the work i do on it. It is being set up for short trips around western Australia (we are based in Bunbury). A little like you have mentioned, I could have easily bought a hilux.. but once you get bitten by the Rover bug, the obsession and care for these cars takes on a life of its own!
Lucas AKA "prince of darkness". I owned a gold one of the same era. Nearly bankrupted me but hell what fun. Hope you had a great birthday and thank you for such a lovely video.
hi andrew. i find it so interesting that you drove in chobe national park in 1987. this national park is in my country, i was born in 1987 i had never been in that park until last week for christmas vacation. nowadays you arent allowed to wander around the park like you did but instead you drive in predetermined routes. anyway im starting to venture into touring hope to see you in this country soon
Your excitement for driving a vehicle with so much memory for you made me smile throughout the whole video!

True! Corrugations were truly scary. I learned to lock the centre diff, and that helped a lot, after I came very close to rolling mine.

Totally agree, the most beatiful 4x4 ever made...
Brings back fond memories from my own 77 Range Rover!
Thanks for a lovely and a little nostalgic video :)
We have a 1980 classic, we off road it for years, it was like driving a big slipper, so comfortable, we still have it.

Dream machines and the dreams they deliver, they do make one misty eyed, don't they. Happy Christmas!
Best Overland video yet. Memories, emotion, happiness.
They are beautiful cars and with a reputation to be able to go almost anywhere .

Even today a great looking vehicle ,and never seems to date .

rewatched this video last night as it was on my mind from earlier in the week when discussing RRC with mates.... One of my all time fave. YT videos.
The Chevy Suburban and Jeep Wagoneer are the first four wheel drive station wagons 🇺🇸
The land rover series 1 Tickford station wagon was 1949. We didn't get the wagoneer here in the UK untill the early 90s.
I am English but I find this singing absolutely wonderful
Priceless
Beautiful video, the Range Rover classic is the most beautiful as said.
