Love this video. Question. I coach 14U girls team. Where is the setter? Usually have a setter in the front row, but my setters are not tall enough to block. Do I set up in the back? Asking how I would get three taller for blocks and avoid my setter defending hit with the first hit.
I always have my club & collegiate team hit deep into the court to the right or left of the middle back defender. There is only 1 defender in the last 10 feet of the court. Scoring becomes easier when you realize the defender can’t possibly cover the entire last 1/3 of the court by themselves.
Well sure, but the blockers are supposed to be taking away those parts of the court. If the block is doing a bad job, it usually doesn't matter what the backcourt players are doing.
As for the tip at 1:49. I was told by a friend that outside hitter should not cover tips on the right side because its dangerous as I could collide with back defender but it feels natural to me and have successfully covered many times. I never cover past the ten foot line, only super short balls. What are your thoughts?
I think you should only take a ball farther into zone 2 if you KNOW the other 3 players can't get it. In defense, all of us should feel whether we think we've beaten our teammates to ball or they have a better play on it. Sometimes Outsides have taken a ball on the sideline because they just read the play really well or the z1 defender messed up. If you're an outside that has more of a role in the offense, I would hope the libero and setter would take more balls in z2 so the outside could transition for an out of system swing. I would worry about the system and communicate what the expectations are during practice so in a game the athletes can make quicker decisions.
i have a qustion how can i see the defender hands when i hit the ball one the net [spikinkg ] i just see the ball when setter pass and i cant see the both the ball and defender hands
I really don’t believe that is important! So many say this but 90% of the information comes before that … what’s the situation, what’s the set, what should the blockers do. Then you make the decision crystal clear and at the very end you see them reaching more you can maybe twist your wrist or extend your arm to finish the hit. I tell my players to know what to hit based on the situation. Then understand what the blocker would do with that same information. You’ll be playing chess not checkers 😎
So, if the setter is in the front row, how do the 3 back row players position themselves in free ball? Does opposite prepare to hit from back row and the other 2 still split the court?
The backrow wouldn’t move if the setters front row except if you have a big D ball presence. Then z6 and z5 defenders would rotate normally so the backrow right side could swing out and get ready to hit.
@@fourathletes4 would never make changes. The high school varsity teams I coached were exceedingly successful using a defense opposite of that in the video. 50-6 in league play over 5 years winning 4 league championships. The same school hasn't won a league championship in the last 3 years after the current coaches changed back to the defense in the video.
As a coach teaching various teams at varying skill levels, this is an amazing demo and explanation.
Glad it was helpful! Love hearing that!
Needed this last night lol, I was all out of position defensively
Haha we’re here for you! You got it next time!
This is gold content for volleyball players ! ♥
And the format "little video" is just perfect to watch and try/train instead of watch/watch/watch 😇
Thank you!!
You guys are producing unbelievably good content...Thanks!
Thanks!!
This was incredibly helpfull, i had been looking for a video that would tell me how to get positioned and couldn´t find it until now!
Wooo! Glad you found it!!
idk why but this was incredibly satisfying
@@ballwbj hahaha we are biased but feel the same way 🤣
Really good videos, would you consider making one detailing float serve execution/serve receiving & serving strategies?
Of course. Have some of those already in the works!
Amazing explanations and just incredibly useful.
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome stuff... My 7th grade team (only had 10 try out so kept all 10) isn't the most skilled but going to use this for defense for basic defense
Get those 7th graders to ball out!
Very good explantion. Thank you.
You are welcome!

There’s a lot of good videos that explain a 6-2. That should solve your problems 👍
best explanation I've seen on this
Thanks!!
Great explaination 🎉😊
Thanks! 🙏
This was very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Really good explanation, but holy crap, that field feels cramped (and dangerous) with that column there!
Hahaha brings more excitement to the matches. You should see the trap doors and the slime that comes down from the ceiling! 🤪
This video is amazing. thanks so much
Glad you liked it!
Thanks a Lot for Making this video ...
Our pleasure!

i played a 7 ft setter and he could dump anywhere lol
Dealing with a 7ft setter is going to have to be its own video 😬

At the HS level there’s a lot of tips over the block and weaker shots so the opposite probably works great. Don’t change a thing!
Nice
Wooo!
Nice 🫡
Thanks 🙏
everyone is moving sooo
eipc
Thanks!
please show this with a good attack.
No hate but you hit it not like it was a real game
