  • Eakins trinocular microscope with an articulated arm and a camera was purchased for the lab. I am not sure that the articulated arm was the best choice, the camera is noisy and with some glitches. Perhaps some other accessories will be needed such as 0.35x camera adapter to make the field of view though the camera match the field of view through the eyepieces. Maybe a 0.7x Barlow lens would be handy.

Thank you. Your shared experience will help me decide against this arm... It looks nice in some reviews but I also doubt it's practicality as you have honestly shown.

It's pretty much par for the course that you have to muck around and be very gentle to get low end Chinese stuff to work and last.
I think Voltlog had the same problem and it was just the adaptor.
Also direct down lighting is always bad due to reflections, that's why I use 2 lamps angled at 45º on the sides.

I am in the market for a brand new bench and lighting has been on my mind when shopping for scopes. Do you find that the gooseneck lamps get in the way ever? For certain size boards or situations or when using hot air perhaps? Ideally I would be recording and with the problems so many have with crappy cams and crappier reflections, I have been highly considering the gooseneck lamps

It reminds me of buying a similar scope for my bench, the microscope is great, but resulted in a complete re-organisation of my bench to accomodate the scope, everything moved around :-)

You might want to look at all the bad setups that Louis Rossmann went through to find something that works good. He was even going to import them in quantity, but import tariffs put an end to that idea. Still he reviewed a bunch and figured out what makes a good setup and where the problems were. I recall that the right camera adapter was a big deal.

Get some articulated led lamps, I found them better than a ring light, gets rid of the glare and reflection from the board, and you can adjust the positions to read chip markings easier.

You are right about that. Got myself one lamp and its a lot better than ring lamp when one needs to read an obscure part number under conformal coating

There is maybe a way to use the arm reversed, i.e hanging from above. In this way you don't have to keep avoiding the arm, and you can lift the assembly out if your way.
Also, with the adequate Barlow lens, you could suspend the microscope very high and work using the display only

It would be best to move the arm clamp to the far right. Push it back to the clamp to stored position. Then when you need it, pull toward you.

I brought some of those but noname directly from China when I was there. Looks like quality there is better like those sent abroad. And it was only for 150EUR.

Mine doesn't have any glitches on the camera but the FOV is killing me... I'm at a point that i want to record my work but it's really hard trying to predict what the camera is seeing... I think my FOV is even worse because i bought a 0.7x glass for the main lens since the 0.5x made the microscope sit at an uncomfortable position while in-focus... Basically too high for me, i ain't that tall 😅 Did you ever find a solution for this? Did you test the 0.35x camera adapter?

Is there a way to fix the difference in the field view being much much more narrow then what you see through the lenses ?
I know i need some kind of adapter, but which one ?

    • @shiftctrlhack
      @shiftctrlhack Рік тому

You can use the .35X CTV adapter instead of the .5X to get your field of view to match the eye pieces. Make sure to get the new version that’s shorter / chunky. They have 2 old versions that are tall and slightly skinner but those do not give a quality image. You combined the .35X with the .5X Barlow lens and everything will be really close to match your eye pieces.

.... Well done Mate, is there a way to modify the arm so the clamp mounts on your first shelf at the rear ?
I made a mod to a illuminated magnifying glass by adding a articulating camera arm and mounting from back shelf.
It retracts out of my way when not in use.

I think that I have the same microscope. Did not go for the articulated arm option, as it was a lot more expensive. How do you like the arm? Is it worth the money? As for the camera - I think that I have a different version ( it is blue, and no remote control), but I had the same problem of having differences between what I see through the eyepieces and the image from camera. I thought that the problem was my diopter adjustment - I am shortsighted. I should probably try the adapter for camera, thanks for the idea. My unit came with a stand, that had a slightly oval vertical stand. Could not get the head mounted. The seller, however, quickly sent another stand free of charge, which fit perfectly. I quite like the microscope, just wonder if the arm was worth the money. Thanks for the review.

can never go wrong with a microscope , Normal stand takes more space, I record straight to the computer using the USB, only limit is 1080p, using HDMI and capture card can do 4k, I don't use the micro SD card, Opens up a new world in electronics. since I got my microscope I have a better success in repairing devices, The only problem is it makes you lazy

    Hi.
Just a question about the articulated arm.
I do ot have too much space on my desk. And most of the time the pcb in the reparaible unit. It seems to me the articulated arm make sense. But I can not deside.
