    Thank you for investing the time and money in to finding the next step in the camera upgrades for us.
    I'm definitely "happy enough" with my RisingCam Red 4K unit but I will be buying the RT5109 to replace it because as we both know, the RisingCam Red 4K camera just seems to need too much light.
    At the time that I bought the RisingCam Red 4K I don't think the RT5109 was readily available. What is interesting is that they're both IMX334 sensors.
    Hopefully the RT5109 will work without trouble with the AJA KONA capture card ( I prefer it compared to the Blackmagic Quad )

      Paul did you purchase one yet? If so how does it compare to your old one. Did you have any weird quarks with it? I own one and its great but I had to rotate the image in the camera settings to get the wires orientated from to the back on my trinocular microscope vs all the other MS cameras I have the are default with the ports facing the back. I couldn't get a real answer from the seller why it was like that. I just thought it was odd the default image was flipped left to right and up to down if that makes sense. Also the auto white balance was pretty aggressive until I fine tuned it. They didn't lie though it is indeed IMX334 and is REAL 4K. I'm still on the hunt for the perfect .5X Microscope Lens adapter though. All the ones I have purchased locally on AMAZON are pretty poor quality. I may just have to buy the ones RISING CAM for $100 to see if its any better and be done with it. I have 5 different .5X Lens adapters and they all produce a slightly different view distance even though they all claim to be .5X. 2 of them display tunnel vision and 2 really zoom in on the image so its not close - 1 to 1 like you would think. My last one is pretty close but I was shocked how many different adapters ( new style ) that are all different.

      @@northwestrepair Yeah, you know what's up! Im on a budget so im trying to diy something with an arducam setup and a $20 lens. Fingers crossed it works, but a lot of people forget you can just buy a sensor board, 3D print the housing/adaptors plus if you already have a camera body a lot of the sensors are interchangeable and use a standard connector. Lol.

    Based on your detailed review and trustworthiness, I purchased a 5109 from Risingcam. I'll have my own review video up at some point (edit: review posted). Short summary: I'm happy with it, image quality is awesome, and they significantly improved the thermal management. Mine only gets mildly warm. If I were to guess, probably a combination of better thermal joining to the aluminium case and tweaking how they drive the image processor / single board computer to run it less hot - maybe lowering clock speed or voltage, maybe a hardware change, don't know for sure..

    for the first good camera @11:34 it says it's an "IMX334" with a pixel size of "1.85x1.95um" which is impossible because that sensor is a 2.0x2.0um sensor. I've checked on RisingCam and they seemed to have updated the ad now to the correct pixel size.

      Should be a notable improvement and a lot more stable and vertically compact. Only thing to watch for is picking the correct reduction to match your sensor size. 1/2" sensor and usually we use 0.5X reducer, 1/3" sensor and 0.3X reducer typically.

  • @rokko1337

    Thanks for showing inside of that camera. There is one Eakins camera with similar IMX334 sensor and exactly the same connector types and placement (in wide blue/silver case with ribbed top), but it's only 30fps at 4k and ~1/3 the price of this camera, interesting does it have the same chip but gimped firmware (they also have their custom UI overlay for HDMI output) or something different.

    • @rokko1337
      @rokko1337 Рік тому +1

      P.S. Also there are cameras with IMX678 (it's refreshed IMX334 with same 1/1.8" sensor size and 8MP resolution but uses newer technology STARVIS 2 that gives better light sensitivity and wider dynamic range) and with IMX485 (STARVIS), IMX585 (STARVIS 2) those have same 8MP resolution but larger sensor size 1/1.2" compared to 1/1.8" of IMX334/IMX678. Interesting thing is, these 3 cameras with better sensors cost around the same price (~400$) from ToupCam company (E3ISPM08300KPE, E3ISPM08300KPC, E3ISPM08300KPD), don't know why would anyone buy not IMX585 version in this case, but standalone sensors are kinda cheap with small price difference tho. Wish there was also their cheap version with only 30 fps at 4k...

    • @rokko1337
      @rokko1337 Рік тому

      P.S.S. If you download IMX678 datasheet, on the last page you can see it's comparison vs IMX334 at different light conditions. And IMX678, IMX585 are also used in telescope cameras ZWO ASI678MC, ASI585MC because of that STARVIS 2 technology.

    I want to encourage you all, to try 35-50 mm lens with a cheapest possible HD/FullHD web camera. Just remove the original lens and try. You get, as i have, about 3-5 milimeter field, but from the 400 mm to 1,5 m distance! So if you have the 35 mm lens, you also have the microscope. With slightly beeter image than old sorins microscope and without IR filter, so you can't use the microsope on sunlight (or other thermal intensive lightsource). But the benefit is you will see anything above ~380°C. Not exatly the thermal camera, but you will see the tip of your soldering iron glowing. I have the camera above my head, allways on ad love it. As a viewer just use Camera in windows or OBS on a linux desktop.

      @shiftctrlhack 8 місяців тому +1

      @@mavenaz1975 Sorry for the late reply I just saw your comment. I'm using it 4K @ 60 FPS. Ya most other cameras that are sold are junk but this one is a real 4K 60 FPS. I use it with my capture card ( Live Gamer Live Ultra 2.1 ) and record with 0 issues. It gets passthrough to my 55 4K TV and there is 0 lag. Most of the time I'm watching it through my OBS preview and there's no delay there either. Just watch out on which 4K 60FPS capture card you use. All the MJPEG 4K60 format capture cards will lag and be horrible Unless you have a top top tier gpu / cpu. ( 12900k/3090 4090 ) The Live Gamer Ultra 2.1 uses many different formats but for 4K60 recording NV12 is the codec that has 0 lag and perfect picture quality. I have a 3090 /12900k cpu/gpu but I can record with a super budget GPU in OBS using NV12 4K60. I tried it with my mini Lenovo Tiny P330 workstation that only has a I7 8700T and a Quadro P620 2gb card without any issues.

    Does anyone else use the RT5109 Camera from RISING CAM? - I own one and when I received it the image is flipped the opposite of of all my other microscope cameras. I thought maybe they installed the sensor upside down or wasn't rotated correctly. The sensor is on its own pcb so in theory it could be rotated but then the issue is the ribbon cable will not reach. I had to go into the settings and flip it ( right to left) & then ( down to up ) in order for all the wires to face the back on my trinocular microscope. I asked the seller why it was like that but didn't receive a straight answer but just to flip the image from in the camera settings like I already did. If I didn't flip the image the wires would be facing me and would have to be routed to the back technically the front of the camera were the power light is. Also I noticed the auto-white balance on mine is pretty aggressive at times.

    The Rising camera is the darkest but it has the best picture quality and more importantly, there's no glare.
    I assume there is some sort of filter, probably a polarizing filter, that's making the picture darker.

    • @pldaniels
      @pldaniels Рік тому +3

      There isn't any filter, it's just for some reason very low on the sensitivity. They both use the IMX334 sensor. It might be that they've decided to use a lower gain or... I genuinely have no idea. The most frustrating thing with the Red 4K is that you have to "bump" the settings each time you start it, else it'll revert back to defaults (esp with HDR) until you change any setting in the menus and it restores it again.

  • @nerdstrangler4804
    @nerdstrangler4804 Рік тому

    Pixel size is actually 2.0µm in the Sony IMX334, think the seller made a mistake. Although sensor size is a lot more important than pixel size when it comes to low light performance. I have the same sensor in my camera, only difference is it was significantly cheaper because it is limited to 30fps at 4k. Might want to test out the 0.35x version of that adapter since you don't seem to mind blowing money on camera equipment. I personally prefer it, as while you get some vignetting it, you get a much larger field of view that better matches the eyepieces.

      The RT5109 does not have autofocus, you need to do height adjustment to bring into focus as normal. Quick way to tell is any camera that isn't tall doesn't have autofocus - that feature works by using a servo to literally move the sensor up and down which means it needs height to work with.

      I prefer the stereo scope for precision since the spatial awareness is much improved especially on very small and tight layouts. The camera view on a large nice monitor screen is great when generally inspecting, though the FOV is less than in stereo on scope. I find that I use both quite a lot. Then again, I only use my microscope occasionally to repair electronics for myself/friends. If it was something I was using on a regular basis. I can see the camera being nice to have just to give yourself a break from being glued to the eyepieces.

I went through the very same frustrations with my Stereo Scope which was great, but you have to dig and experiment until you finally crack the code on a decent video camera setup to make it perform well for your needs. Even after finding a good camera, you still need to figure out that the OEM mount is rubbish and change it.

    On IMX334 can get much cheaper device then this last "best" camera. Another point is quality light - if you get high CRI LED lights, the quality of picture will be better on any of them.

    Is the rt5602 really a 4k camera? The image looks strange, maybe (probably) it's just the light, idk.

      It's 4K as UHD, as opposed to 4K, so it's subtly different but it's still high resolution. The Red 4K is the one that I'm using but I deliberately force it down to 1080@60 for my capture purposes ( I was more interested in true 60fps than 4K )

      Yes, it would be interesting to see all cameras with light coming from the side, rather than from the ring light (which is very likely to cause significant light reflection from the target).

      @pldaniels Рік тому +2

      I've spent the last 6 months working on a new ring light for my microscope work ( I have the RisingSun Red 4K camera ) and I don't find it's glaring. Quality of the LED emitters matters a lot, and if you're still having issues then a very fine diffuser should help.
      If you look any any videos on my channel from the last couple of months you'll get an idea of what it's like.

    I think you interpretation regarding pixel size is wrong. Smaller it is, sharper image will be. It has nothing to do with light. Sensor size and exposure will affect how the camera acts in low light environment. Bigger sensor will have better performance in low light and low noise.
    Pixel size it reffers to the size of each pixel in camera's resolution. At 4k with a small pixel size will give you a better sharpness and contrast.

    • @electronicsrepairschool
      @electronicsrepairschool  Рік тому +5

      a pixel doesn't know anything about sharpness or contrast, a pixel is actually a fototransistor, so all what is related with a pixel is regarding the light quantity. Bigger sensors are made from a simple single reason, bigger pixels

    • @Flavius-Tech
      @Flavius-Tech Рік тому

      @@electronicsrepairschool I think we have to agree we disagree with each other. There are only 2 obstacles in real world, the light will meet them before are converting to digital world.
      1. is the lens, wider it is, more light will let pass throught it.
      2. is the sensor , bigger it is, more light will hit the sensor and allow image to be brighter when it will be digitally processed.
      The pixels are the results from compression and digital processing.
      That's why smartphones struggle to film in low light, because they have a tiny sensor and light cannot be absorbed proprly.

    • @electronicsrepairschool
      @electronicsrepairschool  Рік тому +1

      Not really, the pixel are real, are fototransistors. The phones are struggle with the light because of the density of the small pixels on a small surface, high resolution means more pixels. Check here samsung s23 camera specs www.dxomark.com/samsung-galaxy-s23-camera-test/#:~:text=the%20captured%20data.-,Overview,aperture%20lens%2C%20Super%20Steady%20Video and about pixels www.princetoninstruments.com/learn/camera-fundamentals/pixel-size-and-camera-resolution

    • @Flavius-Tech
      @Flavius-Tech Рік тому

      @@electronicsrepairschool Look Sorin, i bet that the camera that are very darken image in your video, is the only which have physically smallest sensor, or the lens is not wide.
      Photons will be more, only if the lens is wide, or sensor is bigger so they arrive in larger number. It doesn't matter how many photoreceptors are on sensor or how big they are.
      Why you think you can see better straight through microscope? Photons will arrive through lens straight to your retina.
      Retina is the sensor. Then how we interpret the data is our brain.

    • @pldaniels
      @pldaniels Рік тому

      @@Flavius-Tech in this case, both the Red 4K with dark image and the new camera with bright image are using the same sensor, SONY IMX334.
      In this particular comparison it would seem that it's in the post processing that the differences are present in so far as the light sensitivity.

  • @M.E63

    The thing is these cameras claim to be such and such mega pixel but there not, you need to check the sensor inside as china has a habit of claiming it has such and such sensor but inside it’s not, also the sensor will help reveal the true specification.
    The amscope is way way over priced
