There's a very good reason why it has a 90's sound. When Mike Eisinger from Incubus heard Band-Maid at the Point Festival in St Louis a couple of years back, he really liked the band and he actually wrote the bones of this song for them. Then they did their Band-Maid thing on it. They now call him Mikey-san. You should check out more songs, because the ones they write themselves can either be blistering rip off your face songs (From Now On, Black Hole) or beautiful ballads (Daydreaming, etc.) or hard groove rock killers (Manners, Bubble) or anything in between. They don't do genres.
We all need a sweet feel-good song in our lives. "Bestie" does that for me. It is now one of my favorite Band-Maid songs. The setting, the visuals, the sound, and especially the words and sentiment of the song really works. The Maids all look ethereal and even angelic, especially Kanami with the gossamer lace "wings" on her costume.
The beginning riff reminds me alot of Wake Me Up When September Ends - Green Day. But that 90s sound comes from this song being co-written by Mike Einsiger of Incubus
Ur not wrong the opening n closing riff is from mikeychan from incubus, Mike actually played it with them when band maid was the guest for incubus in Japan
Bestie, in the vein of other great mid-tempo Band-Maid songs like Daydreaming, The One, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, Wonderland, Awkward, Start Over, Mirage, At the Drop of a Hat and Smile, was co-written by Michael Einziger of Incubus. MISA's playing and bass tone are setting new standards... and Akane's drumming is so in-the-pocket and distinguishable... and Kanami's solo is Daydreaming masterful! The recording and mix are as enjoyable as the song and beautiful MV! And Miku’s English lyrics are heartfelt. Is Band-Maid a band of fashion-forward, trend-setting Besties? 💞 Thx, Mikey, Band-Maid and Ace! FYI - The Maids just released a "Making of Bestie" on their websites where they explain the song and look of their awesome MV.
I was told to check out MIssioned Souls cover of this song, but I thought I should check out the original first
Good call. Great song and the youngsters killed it on the cover!
The music is co-written by Mike Einziger of Incubus. That's why you're probably getting that '90s or early 2000s Alternative Rock vibe.
I love how the members call him Mikey-chan
Thanks for the fun reaction, Ace, and for continuing to support the Maids!

I agree with needing at least 1 song like this
Ace Frehley Spaceman shoulders!
Saiki designed the outfits for this one, and made Mincho look like an angel!
You're the BEST, Ace! Thanks for Band-Maid
Always a blast with Band-Maid
A kids band from the Philippines called Missioned Souls does an amazingly exact cover of this.
I have heard a thing or 5 about it. I definitely want to check it out soon
