    Countertenors are the most prized voice in all of classical choir music, even more so than basso profundo. A good one with a natural voice for it is so rare, and the man on the far left is unarguably the best currently in the world.

      Agree! David Hurley's voice is just stunning.

      Icyveins906 Countertenors can at least be trained. To be a beautiful basso profundo (or more respectably an oktavist) requires raw talent before even starting the training.

    Wow.
    Another awesome arrangement by Philip Lawson =)
    And I've never really heard Tim's voice on it's own before. beautiful. as expected =P
    and that last chord is something else - any trace of 9th in there is all overtone if I've picked out the notes right, amazing =)

    That is called a Countertenor, but pitchwise it is not any higher than Michael Jackson or Smokey Robinson etc. but a different style of singing. One of the earliest recorded singers of this type is Alfred Deller, who can be found on UA-cam along with his son Mark Deller, also a Countertenor.

    • @55dbau
      @55dbau 3 роки тому

      Michael's voice was unmistakably light and even androgynous. This is most likely why people would call Michael a countertenor. His tessitura was high, but not way up there with a countertenor's voice. He was simply a non-lazy tenor, who explored his range.

    Fair enough & good point - too often people's interests become competitive which tends to diminish the enjoyment.

    Oh god that last chord was basically all Phillip Lawson doing the A3, a bit flat of where it should be on the equal-tempered scale, but perfect in just intonation. The chord just rings.

    I agree, it's not a valid comparison,but the generalization made above is what is wrong, we can't say David is the best countertenor, we should say he's the best from vocal ensembles (maybe).

    • @KSfan4ever
      @KSfan4ever 6 років тому

      I think David's vocal gifts & musicianship and sheer beauty of his voice far surpass any other countertenors I have heard and this includes solo artists.

    • @joshywashy3453
      @joshywashy3453 5 років тому

      KSfan4ever What do you think of Jakub Orlinski as a solo artist compared to David?

  • @Kawasakifreak1
    @Kawasakifreak1 11 років тому

    Dominique Visse has a very different voice to David.
    Dominique's a soloist - his tone is very clear but borders on harsh at times which would not blend well in Madrigals.
    I think you're comparing apples with pears really.

      Actually, it's preferred to have movement in the choral pieces, as it often makes the program more interesting for the viewers. Also it's better for the singers to stay loose and "flowing", so to speak, when they sing 😊
