Really appreciate all your advice, Rich! I jumped on the crossbow bandwagon as soon as my home state (Minnesota) changed the law this year. Happy to report that I got a clean 20-yard shot on a doe this past weekend with my Tenpoint Stealth 450, Burris Oracle X, and Swhacker 251's on Zombie Slayers! She didn't run far with that 3"+ Swhacker exit hole! I was brand new to crossbow hunting before this year, and your content has helped me become informed and successful.
I am still a Grim Reaper guy and for the same reason you like Sw -ackers, the blood trails are ridiculous. Looking forward to seeing you provide some video next month of you following the red line to victory.
I’ve never had a Rage fail to open or pass through. Still dabbled with others including Grim Reaper. After several failures to open, I went back to using Rage and Swhaker 3”.
I only have shot 1 deer so far but the Sevr 150 that I used did excellent. The Rage and Swacker look like great alternatives too. I guess I will stick with what has worked unless until I see a reason to change. But I have zero doubt either of those heads will get the job done when the shot placement is where it needs to be.
You made my day when I noticed that the new D A has the Law n Order box set in the trophy room. HAHAHA Thanks for all your videos. I continue to learn off them.
I just picked up my first Crossbow. Minnesota just passed Crossbow hunting during Archery season. I went with Rage i did shoot 2 fix blades to see what happened. Both shot 6 inches to the left but good up and down. At 30 and 40 yards
I went to the moon with purchasing Swhacker 100gn and 125gn broad heads last income tax season. I purchased 7 packs of both sizes. I did it because I knew the following years would bring on higher prices. I didn't purchase any of the 150gn ones because they put my arrow weight too high. And my crossbow doesn't like heavy arrows. Thanks for the video buddy.
Great video once again Rich! I loved the blood trail on the boar! I'm going to start the season off with RAGE 125 crossbow 2 " cuts! They flew through my pork roast test like a hot knife through butter! I really want to try the SWA-HACKER in 150 Grain as well as the SEVER 1.75 Gr. but maybe next season! Good luck in September!
Yes indeed great month, but here in west Virginia, still have until 9 / 30 before the season opens,so I'll take the 22 out do squirrel hunting, and scouting, before our season opens, but rich thanks for all the great info and may God bless every hunter with a safe and bountiful ,season.Go bunji.
Just tried an oring held Fixpandable on my AXE. Not going to be able to use those. I'm guessing it opened up as it missed the target (40yds) by feet both X and Y and flew off loudly into the woods. The practice head was dead on. I'd try adding another oring but I don't want to loose another 30 bucks. Those are getting moved to my slower Ten Point. My modified Truglo Titaniums are holding a couple inches @ 40yds. Haven't tried the 125 gr Swhacker yet. AXE recommends only 100 and 125 gr so my #251s are out of the running.
The SWAT Broadhead has the two blades in front that open on impact. They’re 2” of cut. Once the head passes the ribs, the rear blades open inside at 1.75 inches of cut. The rear blades are on a different axis. Two blades going in and four coming out. Because the ferule is shaped much like a bullet, they fly very accurately. They are rated for unlimited speed.
Likely a cost savings.... I guess at some point I'll need to borrow a page from your book and try making a couple practice points from used broadheads. Thanks Rich for a great channel that focuses on relevant information rather than the typical "looky looky what I killed". Sincerely appreciate it.
Dear Sir, My son and I are getting into crossbows for deer the for the first time this fall. I purchased a Tenpoint Viper s415 and my son has a killer instinct vital x430. Each came as a package with bolts set up for 400 grains total. Would you recommend just going with 150 grain mechanical broadheads for a start, so that we could use the existing 400 grain bolt setups from the starter packages? It could give us a little more mass and relief on the limbs without much additional expense.
I have been learning a lot from your videos and have converted from just vertical bow hunting to primarily crossbow. Keep up the great and informative videos. Also, as a father I get the dad jokes and puns. 😂 I live and hunt on the Delmarva. If you ever have another Death By Bunjie “meat and greet”, I hope to attend and possibly my oldest son. He wants to bust a boar. Not sure I can make a GA trip. 😂
I haven't shot any Swhackers, but from a design standpoint it seems like they would be superior to the Rage or any mechanical head that opens on impact. When those Rage style broadheads start to open on impact, if you aren't perfectly broadside, and one blade opens before the other, or one blade hits a rib, it will make the bolt lever to the side that opens 2nd, redirecting the momentum in the direction of least resistance. The rear deploying blades that only open after they are inside the animal would stop that problem. Personally I shoot a durable fixed blade Magnus
@@MichaelLakota-vc4tk also I shoot Victory Xbolts with factory lighted nocks. I have never had to index the nocks on any of them to get them to behave with fixed blades.
I haven't used the 3" Swhackers yet (I just ordered a 3-pack, so I will soon). The Rage Trypan is great ... once. In just about every broadhead comparison I see, the Rage breaks first or close to it. I shoot Sevr Robusto 2.0" 150grn broadheads on a 550 grain arrow build from my Excalibur Assassin 420 TD. Sevrs are a similar design to the Rage, but much more durable. The blades pivot around when they clip bone so it doesn't deflect and go off in crazy directions inside an animal, and it has a screw which secures the blades in the retracted position so you can use the actual broadhead when sighting in and practicing. They come with a silcone band which shouldn't be installed on the broadhead while practicing... When you're heading out to hunt, remove the practice screw and place the band in place to hold the blades closed until the arrow is fired. In my experience the bands don't tend to break - they roll back onto the shaft on impact as the blades release, and are reusable afterward.
For the 505, I would still have concerns about premature opening of the Shwacker, even with multiple bands. Also the potential damage to the long ferule.
What's your opinion on the 100 grain Schwacker x-bow broadheads? I've used the 100 grain with good success and taken 2 deer with them. I'm guessing they fly a tad faster than the 150's. I shoot a Barnett Whitetail Hunter STR
Right single bevel. The bevel refers to the rotation it turns as it goes the animal, not the side the bevel is on the broadhead. (I use Iron Will broadheads)
I wish only they came in a 200 or 250 grain .just a little heavier main blade. But the first one down this year will be from swa/hacker like the way you roll best of luck this year maby you could extend this to crossbow year's
If you want to align your broadhead with your vanes put an o ring on the broadhead shaft then screw it into the arrow shaft. I gut an associated pack at harbor freight for little money.😊
I've been thinking about trying out those Swahackers, once i use up all the rage hypodermics i bought on sale for $25 a pack a couple years ago. Hail Bunjie! 🫡
Rich I know I am off topic of your video but I was reading about the 2023 515 FPS. If my math is right, that is 172 yards in a second. That is as fast as my 45 ACP. Any thoughts?
Most loads and barrel lengths exceed or at least average 950 fps or so 45ACP at the muzzle. These 450-500 fps crossbows are doing roughly just 1/2 of that pistol velocity and still well below speed of sound. Arrow arch and string jump might be diminished some with these super fast bows but the industry has a long way to go still. Arrow drop and string jump are still big factors when hunting with today’s fastest crossbows. The gap is closing a little bit but it’s still a decent gap that needs consideration and respect when hunting. Archery hunting remains a close up sport even with the fastest gear made today. The two I'm going to try this year is the non o ring required xbow Rage Hypodermic and the NAP Sling blade Ti 2 blade this year. I won't beat a dead horse but the red collar hypodermics won't open at 390 fps out of my bowtech stryker solution ls. Yes the collars were installed correctly. Even had to send photos to Rage to prove it. Still have those broadheads. I'd send you a video to prove it if you'd like. Rear deploying cut on contact expandables are my choice. Big hole in and out. The reason I like the Gator style NAP Ti is that there is no collars or rubber bands. Held shut by inertia. The old Gator 100s would always leave 3" to 5" entry holes and just as large exits. I've 10 foot wide blood trails with double lungs shots. Deer would normally drop in sight. Wish they would still make them with the original style chisel tip. I believe the Tripan collars are different than the red xbow collars.
The red collar Tri pan collar you have on your video starting photo is WAY different design then the red collar xbow collars. The xbow collars are hard as a rock and thick. Using the NC versions this year. I switched my red collar xbow versions to the non xbow version dark colored collars. They don’t open in flight and will open going through pie plates.
i do like the swa-hackers, but if you were to give me only one choice and it was between the swa-hacker and the rage hypos, i’m going with the rage. of the three deer i harvested last year, the only deer that i had to track (albeit, 30 yards) was the one I shot with the saw-hacker. The other two - using the rage hypo, died in the spot that they were standing.
Swhacker #251 & #243 are identical. Ferrule diameters are identical (.350"), & they use the identical #246 replacement blades & rubber bands. The ONLY difference is the word "crossbow" on the package. I'm not being critical, but helpful if someone is shopping for them. If Walmart has the #243, buy them if that's what you want. As far as fixed blades go - A Slick Trick Magnum (their original broadhead) fixed 4-blade has a total cut of 2.25" (1 1/8" + 1 1/8" = 2.25"), which is more than a 2" Rage. Even the smaller ST Standards have a 2" total cut, because 1 + 1 = 2 in Math class. I realize some guys love to talk in one-dimension, but a 4-blade brodhead cuts in two-dimension, & I don't think it is fair to overlook that. As far as flight goes, SlickTrick Standards fly extremely well. Even a Swhacker has 1" blades sticking out in flight. I am not recommending or endorsing Slick Trick. I am just using them as an example of a fixed blade, because I know their dimensions without looking them up. If someone shoots the ST RaptorTrick X (very similar to a Swhacker), their total cut is 2" (no more than their 4-blade Standards). I can't argue that a 3" cut is close to throwing a small hatchet through a deer, but I might prefer the steel ferrules & flight of some fixed broadheads (especially when hitting bone). I don't like messing with small screws & rubber bands on my broadheads, but that's me.
I like slackers even though I haven't shot a deer with one yet. However, I'm going heavy and just sighted in rf 3 blade 200 gr broadhead. It shot well at 20 yds but didn't at 40. Probably will use swacker past 30yds if possible.
@dualthreatoutdoors I agree, he's not anti crossbow I'm saying it's not something he deals with however, I think he's never even shot a crossbow if I remember correctly. The energy in a crossbow opens up new doors for Mechanicals that's for sure.
Hmmmmmmm. I kind of agree, but I had a discussion with someone, who pointed out that if you put the point of the blade up, the bevel is on the left... but it flies through the air like a right single bevel I think you are correct.
the best one is the one that works. it is weird how makers of broadheads doesnt provide any videos of shots of the works of or any other data of the reliability of its broadhead. like a slowmotion shot into a carcass. are we just to believe it just works. or why not make a simulation block of jelly with parts simulating skin and bones
I've got the No Collar Rage Hypos for Xbows and after broadhead testing with my cube, they flew just like my field tips did at 40 yards, which was my comfortable reliable max range. Beyond that, I can't say I could hit the half of the lung I aimed at. (My metric for ethical shot is being accurate enough to pick what half of the lung I want to shoot. If I shot for the forward half, but it ended up in the read half near the liver, it's a bad shot even if it's still double lung because it's not the forward half I aimed for.) I really want to try the Muzzy Trocar HBX because I'm into the hybrid idea, I like bleeder blades so cuts won't risk closing if muscles get tight enough during a run to restrict blood trails and there's a theory that fixed blades aid in flight stabilization. So if I can get a similar cutting width (sans a few eighths), but overall larger total cut (with fixed bleeders included) and a possibly more stable flight trajectory with a guarantee from fixed blades that even if the mechanical maim blades DON'T deploy that I still have a decent total cut size, it seems like I have an obligation almost to examine using what might provide the most ethical shot I can make in the future. But first, I've gotta burn through some of my hypos this season, which is proving difficult because even after a couple hours of target practice, the hypo testers are still 100% ready for the field with paper sharpness and no misalignment. They might just survive more than one deer, which I know is ideal, but ironically not exactly what I want when I see other broadheads I wanna test lol.
I swear Rich has me calling them swa-hacker all the time now 😂 loving all these videos, can’t wait till season opens up for yet another season of great content!

The ONLY difference is the word "crossbow" on the package. I'm not being critical, but helpful if someone is shopping for them. If Walmart has the #243, buy them if that's what you want. As far as fixed blades go -
A Slick Trick Magnum (their original broadhead) fixed 4-blade has a total cut of 2.25" (1 1/8" + 1 1/8" = 2.25"), which is more than a 2" Rage.
Fantasy Broadhead Debate! Rich Vs Troy aka Ranch Fairy! I have Rich’s back on this!
I like slackers even though I haven't shot a deer with one yet. However, I'm going heavy and just sighted in rf 3 blade 200 gr broadhead. It shot well at 20 yds but didn't at 40. Probably will use swacker past 30yds if possible.
Crossbows are not his domain LOL
@@Deathbybunjie I don’t think he’s anti crossbow but he’s definitely anti mechanical
Definitely anti mechanical
@dualthreatoutdoors I agree, he's not anti crossbow I'm saying it's not something he deals with however, I think he's never even shot a crossbow if I remember correctly. The energy in a crossbow opens up new doors for Mechanicals that's for sure.
Answer: Right bevel
Hmmmmmmm. I kind of agree, but I had a discussion with someone, who pointed out that if you put the point of the blade up, the bevel is on the left... but it flies through the air like a right single bevel I think you are correct.
Damn your character! You going to bring that same warm, fuzzy, disposition to the prosecutor's office??? Lol
Lol........ no haha
Lol. Well, if anybody could pull that off, my money would be on you! 😉
Me or Rich? Reckon it doesn't really matter, I'm sure either one of us will accept God's help! Thanks for both of us. Lol.
the best one is the one that works. it is weird how makers of broadheads doesnt provide any videos of shots of the works of or any other data of the reliability of its broadhead. like a slowmotion shot into a carcass. are we just to believe it just works. or why not make a simulation block of jelly with parts simulating skin and bones
I agree, I got to see it in action
Grim reaper 👍
I switched from SEVR to fixed blade Tooth of the Arrow for this year.
Which tooth did you get? I got the 100gn vented. Shoot good but whistle
I got the 150g 1” solids
I've got the No Collar Rage Hypos for Xbows and after broadhead testing with my cube, they flew just like my field tips did at 40 yards, which was my comfortable reliable max range. Beyond that, I can't say I could hit the half of the lung I aimed at. (My metric for ethical shot is being accurate enough to pick what half of the lung I want to shoot. If I shot for the forward half, but it ended up in the read half near the liver, it's a bad shot even if it's still double lung because it's not the forward half I aimed for.)
I really want to try the Muzzy Trocar HBX because I'm into the hybrid idea, I like bleeder blades so cuts won't risk closing if muscles get tight enough during a run to restrict blood trails and there's a theory that fixed blades aid in flight stabilization.
😊
Saddens me that it’s over tomorrow. Oh well one more day closer to hunting deer. Lol
So I am sent to the back of the class, huh ?
Lol
Now that ur the D.A the channel name should be Sentenced to D by bungie 😂😂
😅
I swear Rich has me calling them swa-hacker all the time now 😂 loving all these videos, can’t wait till season opens up for yet another season of great content!
LOL stuff like that sticks, doesn't it? A couple of times I've mentioned it in conversations with people at shops. Sometimes you get blank stares LOL
For me, the only choice is mechanical.
I’ll stick with sevr
Tooth of The Arrow and nothing else. Once you go TOTA you won’t go back. Lol
Those are tiny though... 🤔
@@Deathbybunjie size doesn’t matter. 🤔 or does it.

Swacker by any other name, will kill just as sweetly
Indeed!
SSSSSSwacker LOL
Fixed-blade toxic broadhead promise it's the best broadhead you've ever used leaves a 1-inch slug hole
4"........ Careful you don't damage too much meat😮 LoL
Rage
Against the machine
😒😅🤣
Crossbow appreciation month may be over but someone needs to point out how ludicrous the CeaseFire system on the new Excalibur bows has become.
Let the cocking rope piece fall out of a pocket or get lost and you won’t be a happy camper.
The worst thing Excalibur has done to date is try and modernize a hunting platform designed for simplicity
EXCALIBUR…Do Better!!
I see that and just shake my head, I'm with you on that. I actually talk about that in my next podcast, Talking with Bunjie, episode.
Never used rage, never will! Swhacker is a superior design. If you like the swhacker, try an xecutioner broadhead. It truly lives up to its name.
I told you you would love the swhacker. Lol
You hit that nail right on the head!
