As a guy who lives in Switzerland it’s funny that they use the old Roman word for Switzerland (Helvetics). It’s actually more extreme take on modern switzerland since all able bodied men must serve in the militia, and in some cantons you can be fined for not taking your children to the shooting range during the holidays because it’s considered a crime of national readiness if citizens are unskilled at shooting.

You’re right on that one. It’s a wordplay between hell and Helvetics. If you read the texts and look at the map, the Hellvetics not only control the fortresses in the Alps, but also the land beneath it, which is former Switzerland. It’s easy to recognize, that Borca is losely based on Germany, Purgare is Italy, Pollen is Poland and Czech Republic, Franka is France, Hybrispania is Spain and Portugal...
Bought these two books a week ago and I’m really happy to see someone else likes them as much as I do! Getting a second perspective has been really helpful in building the world in my mind. Great content!

Regarding the Weapons, modern firearms are incredibly rare and ammunition is extremely expensive. The overwhelming majority defend themselves with primitive weapons, only the cults and powerful Clans can afford to fight with Guns, and they do it as rarely as possible. Justitian is the most advanced City of Europe, so they developed and produce muskets (muzzleloaders). Every other firearm is from the bygone people (i.e. us).
Also if you closely read the Anubians part, they are actually scientists working with nanite and genetic technology, the whole spiritual thing is only a coverup and for lower ranks.
It's not Spitalians like Italians, they're from the Spital. The 'spital. Hospital.
So, it is pronounced Spital-ians?

Spital is just an old fashioned german word for hospital, and obviously where the english word comes from.
