BEASTARS REVIEW | HOW BEASTARS CHANGED THE MUSIC OF ANIME FOREVER...
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 вер 2024
- So I decided to review the popular anime and manga, BEASTARS, and it was amazing, by far my favorite anime of all time (though I've also heard great things about BNA, and I've also been into Tokyo after-school summoners)
anyway, as it sits now it takes my favorite tv show and anime spot.
in this video, I again went through my elaborated points of,
Story + Writing
Animation
Emotion
Voice Acting
Music
And as usual, I went overboard with the music. who knows what ill upload next because I'm indecisive and love too many things.
I think I'm going to try to make some shorter vides so I can upload a little more often. so be ready for that.
I definitely plan on looking more into Satoru kosaki's work.
Thanks for watching

As a musician I appreciate someone else picking up on the composition and arrangement of this soundtrack. I watched the show on a whim and oddly fell in love with it and its OST.
Only Sam and Max's themes can rival it. Actually, in a battle between the two series, Sam and Max would totally beat Beastars. And I adore Beastars!
Lil side note for ya Paru (writer of the manga) is a woman xD
Oh shit... lol oops
Yep
She is also the daughter of the creator of Baki
I think I've been simping a little towards her, in a "oh my gosh, I love you and your work and I wanna be just like you, you're one of the greatest authors who ever lived!" way. Maybe it isn't simping, but it is a bit unnecessary.
@@Minewitcher2 Kinda explains a lot, doesn't it?
how the hell are you so underrated??? we got reaction channels who put no effort in. you’ve put in so much effort. you deserve way more people watching
Thankyou for the kind words!!
@@Minewitcher2 I honestly was shocked this didn't have more views when I was halfway through, it's incredibly well done.
why the fuck a 319 subscriber youtuber is making one of the best and most deep analyses of this show, good job
Saxophone are technically categorised as a woodwind instrument and that makes it even more genius since it's like a woodwind instrument that takes the appearance of a brass, a bit like how Louis is a herbivore trying to take the appearance of a carnivore.
Ooh that’s kind of awesome
I play clarinet, I should know that lol
I don't know shit about music but I do love the beastars OST so much.

wow.. you blew my mind with Haru humming her own theme... how did I never notice that.
Yeah I thought it was pretty cool, fun fact she also hums it when she’s taking legoshis shirt off at the neon district hotel
Is that technically a fourth wall break?
Yeah it is, although it could also be seen as diagedic to the world meaning both the audience and haru can hear it but neither can interact. (Also nice profile pic lol)
@@Minewitcher2 Good point, and thank you.
As someone in band, it's really satisfying listening to someone break down the music since it's such a complex language. learning how to read and produce music gave me a new appreciation for the soundtrack of Beastars. Having it all laid out in one video for others who may not know much about music gives me a huge smile on my face. Thank you for breaking down the OST, much appreciated!
I clicked on this video without knowing what I was getting into and ended up watching the best anime review ever! I have never heard such detailed analysis of media music! I honestly thought this video would have at least 100k+ views before I checked. Keep it up man, you're gonna blow up sooner or later!
Thank you, im glad that you like it. It takes a bit of work to make them and imo I think 5000 veiws makes it worth it.
You have qute a bit more views now! And it's very deserved!@@Minewitcher2
This review made me appreciate the music even more, I’ve never ever think that composing music is such a complex, beautiful, masterful work. When you break each themes down, it feels so much different than what I’ve heard before...it’s beautiful, aesthetically pleasing, sorrowful yet hopeful thank you for your comprehensive breakdown on the music :)
Thank you, I’m glad you like it!
Watching this video REALLY opened my eyes to the music composition and just how deep it can get. Such an amazing video.
Thankyou! ^^
I came here mainly for the musical section and I was not disappointed. I totally agree with you.
I’m also glad it was such a long video because it’s such a good analysis.
i love how the trombone has a very mellow, subdued tone without the edge typical of that instrument and i feel like it represents legoshi quite well
Great review man! I also adored this show, and it really pisses me off that so many people are writing it off simply because it's anthropomorphic animals. People who haven't even seen the show are judging it because of that, and only because of that. It's honestly ridiculous, they are missing out on a masterwork. I think this could be the anime that gets people who aren't fans of anime to become fans. The animation was brilliant and that soundtrack evokes crazy amounts of emotion. I've listened to it countless times. I also adored the mature approach to the narrative. Beastars doesn't shy away from showing dark situations. This show is perfect in my mind, and I can't wait for season 2. Season 1 is competition with just a couple other shows as my favorite individual television show season off all time. Once again, incredible review!
I absolutely love how you aren’t afraid to crank the background music up. Other creators keep it very quiet. Absolutely incredible video too.
TheBenMan7 thanks, I like the music a lot more than my voice lol
Beastars soundtrack is a masterpiece. I've read all the beastars comics. I'm usually not interested in the anime if I've read the comics. But because of the 3D CG and soundtrack of Beastars, I watched the shows over and over. Not many people are aware of the genius of the Beastars soundtrack. Every time I hear the soundtrack, I always remember the scenes in the anime, and this makes me remember again and again about the stories and characters in the anime. Amazing.
This soundtrack of Beastars is the most extraordinary soundtrack for me
I get called a furry a lot for watching, falling in love, and reading Beastars. I'm not a furry. But damn if i don't love this thing trough and trough. I watched the show multiple times over and i'm reading the manga for the second time. Such a masterpiece.
It's deep and pretty darn realistic when it comes to the internal conflict of characters.
Holy cow! I've listened to the soundtrack a trillion tomes now and I've never noticed that Juno's theme was the one to start "Wolf and Rabbit". This makes sense, since the music first starts playing when Haru is talking to Legoshi and then it switches to Haru's theme when the scene switches to Haru on the stairs.
It's so subtle and I don't think I would have ever noticed that, but it is absolutely genius! I always assumed that the start part was a simplified version of the beastars theme.
Same there!
Thanks for breaking down this soundtrack! It's incredible how underrated this whole OST is, there are so many details in it and I'm thankful that somebody finally explored it!
Wolf and Rabbit is an absolute masterpiece and it never fails to bring me to tears.
Thankyou! I really wanted to analyze a anime soundtrack, and when BEASTARS rolled around I fell in love lol. I knew I needed to do it.
The quality of your video production is very impressive considering the size of your channel, congratulations!
Thank you!
That part about Louis and the brass instruments was fascinating, and finally helps explain the slight confusion I had for why his and Legoshi's 'feelings' themes are so similar. They really went next-level for this show, and that's fantastic.
This is such a brilliant analysis... The saxophone idea is so brilliant. Your analysis reminds me of how orchestral movie scores are carefully crafted, and it does indeed show that beastars "changed the music of anime forever." Seriously underrated!
The music was always what initially sold me on this anime. Really amazing composition
My mind is just blown after you mentioned this 14:46
Good job on details
Wait, I just noticed, only 224 subs?!!!! WHAT!!!!!!! You need one hell of a lot more then that, you understand music theory as good as a professor!!!
I would be willing to bet that Frederic Chopin is one of Kosaki's all-time favorite composers. The piano variation of the main theme feels so much like a Chopin waltz, and even incorporates chromatic walk-ups at times. Absolutely love it.
I absolutely agree, i swear nearly all of the tracks are in a 3/4 waltz. and the backdoor 5-1 is used alot in tracks like beastars thats heard alot in chopin too.
Wow, I really appreciated this video both as a musician and a very great fan of the series... I never thought of how much their music has in common with classical feeling...
How has this not gotten alot of views yet?! This was clearly put with a ton of effort in it and it was really entertaining to watch. Like seriously, its comparable to other popular content creators out there similar to what you make.
Awe Thankyou. I’m definitely still growing into a style though, aswell as I need to have a few more than three videos to keep peeps comings back.
@@Minewitcher2 I return to watch this video every day. I can double it or triple it if it means we get more content from you 😊
Omg really?! I don’t think anyone could stand my voice for that long, I swear I *will* have content out soon. ;S
@@Minewitcher2 well, the Beastars OST helps 😂 I kid. You have a pleasant, calming voice. Watching this vid is almost like meditation now. 😁
I was already obsessed with the Beastars OST and your in-depth video made me love it even more. I just put an order in for their vinyl collection.
This video needs more views!!! This was amazing! I hope this gets more attention! It was very thorough and helped me appreciate the music more as well. Awesome video! And thanks for explaining how to say Louis I’ve been saying it wrong this whole time😂
Thanks you that means a lot! I’m glad someone saw that little snippet at the end lol.
17:40 I thought rather that Louis having one specific theme, he instead had multiple different ones representing different aspects of his character. I plan to look into it more, but a commonly recurring motif with him (in President of the Academy, My Life to the Fullest, Between the Soil and the Skyline, and even briefly in Lady Legoshi) all at least somewhat correlate with his identity and/or strong outward appearance, probably the closest thing to a theme for him. Again, definitely plan to look into it more and the various other themes surrounding his character. Will probably update this comment if I find out more.
The PF solo is one of the most beautiful pieces i have ever heard anywhere. Right up there with the trumpet from the scene in A New Hope where Luke is watching the dual sunset
If this is gonna be as good as your Rio review, count me in.
Lol I sure hope it is, I strive to make better videos each time I upload!
Minewitcher2 and it was :D, ill defo watch this
What a beautiful analysis of Beastars and honestly very interesting how the music function throughout the show! And I can't believe it took me this long to find this video. Keep up the great work man!😅
I learned more from this Than my band class
Although I’m not a musician, I loved the anime and soundtrack (clearly by the pfp) and completely noticed the effort put into this video! Def deserves the sub
Could we get a part 2 now that we have a second season and a 3rd on the way? I would love to see you go in depth on other characters like Riz and Gohin, and maybe analyze the intros and outros as well. The season 2 outro is especially exceptional, since it so well shows the relation between Louis and Ibuki, while not spoiling anything until the very end.
I would love to start making videos again, maybe when season 3 comes out I'll do a combo video on season 2&3. I do have a few other things I'd love to tackle as well, maybe a video on undertale's music, maybe ori or geshin too. Let's hope I get some free time soon 🤞
Thank you for this video 🙏 I enjoyed it thoroughly even though I don't anything about reading sheet music.
I look forward to more of your work, especially for more of the Beastars OSTs (Season 1 Special and Season 2)
This is a beautiful analysis of the music in Beastars. It made me so happy to find this video, knowing how many times I've listened to this OST. You have an amazing grasp of music theory I wish I knew. Season 2 does a fantastic job and BNA is a fun OST to listen to ( I'd also recommend Tatimi Galaxy's OST too )
Aww thank you so much for the kind words, I really want to work on more videos (especially other anime osts)
@@Minewitcher2 Of course! And I hope you're able to, you have so much passion for your videos. Also this will suck me back into listening-to-Beastars-all-the-time phase
That hesitation in putting "Wash your paws" at the end of the video. Cant believe we gotta wait a year for S3.
Spoilers past the anime
Can't wait to see how they do Riz's theme. I feel like it would have a dark undertone, but also try to be a little sympathetic.
We got an answer: if I’m not mistaken, it uses a Tuba.
@@cfruge444 same i want the music to be chaotic and lively
Anime’s out in Japanese now, thoughts?

Finally someone dug through the music. I couldnt put my paw on it but the music seemed like a masterpeice but I didnt know why I felt that way. So Thank you XD
The Beastars soundtrack is something I can truly appreciate, it’s definitely not what my friend thought would be playing while I showed them the soundtrack.
25:14 with the knowledge you blessed me, my day has been great
1. you misspelled review (sorry)
2. THANK YOU FOR MAKING A VIDEO LIKE THIS!!! Your explanation of the different scenes are SOOOOO good, and perfectly captures my personal feelings about the animation and storytelling. I could never explain this anime's music this well, and the most I could do with my own video on Instruments representing Characters. I LOVE your analysis of this OST. BEASTARS OST is easily my favorite OST in Japanese media and one of my top three for soundtracks ever. I honestly wish I could make a video that analyses the OST the way you do. I'm almost a bit mad that you did such a good job, makes me want to one-up you XD. Going into the video though, I like that you showed the little nuances in the leitmotifs of the different characters, and you showing the sheet music to go along with the music is sooo cool. and the Louis breakdown. OMG THE LOUIS BREAKDOWN. Throughout my 10 or so listen-throughs of the OST I have NEVER come to the realization you did, and just about did a facepalm when you showed that Louis' instrument being a saxophone has a big meaning with his characters, and I also did an entire double take thinking about it. It fits his character sooo well! You earned a like and subscribe dude! This is straight-up THE BEST analysis of the OST.
Omg thankyou for catching that misspell (obviously spelling isn’t my forte lol) and your so kind to appreciate the work I put into this video. I’m super happy someone is just as ecstatic about this soundtrack as I am!
@@Minewitcher2 No problem! I even did a little update on my "Instruments Representing Characters" video talking about your conclusion with Louis and his instrument. I'm so surprised I didn't think of that earlier XD
Leitmotifs.
(Sideways yeets across screen)
I FREAKING DIED
im so glad somebody got that lol
Im always a fan of leitmotives music.. wheter it is in video games, or in anime. I am so happy theres someone that's capable to elaborate and explain leitmotives in a really detailed way. Thanks for the video.. i really love it. Anyway, i would really love it if you also do another leitmotives videos like this one... some anime actually has leitmotive as well, its just.. not as jazzy as beastars, which btw i do love jazz aswell.
I very much plan to do more focusing on leitmotif as it usually comes up as a large talking point on great soundtracks. If you don’t know about the channel sideways, he’s basically the king of leitmotifs lol
@@Minewitcher2 i will be waiting more on those ^^,.. i realized about leitmotives eversince i played undertale.. and now im hooked into musics/sountracks that utilizes it,.. for me it is really unique, creative to express a feeling/ to embed a character's certain theme/emotion into different tracks. Like.. using the same melody and combining it with different tempo or chords gives a mind blowing result..
@@Minewitcher2 yeah btw, you should check out undertale's soundtracks if you havent yet..
or discuss about the leitmotives in it.. it is gold
Oh man, regarding "bawling your eyes out".... 2nd season was so, so emotional 😄.... as a long time furry, I'm so proud that these Japanese creators have made it into something serious and respectable.
notice how tails and ears are extra ways to show emotion, and they didn't neglect this. they did such a great job with every detail.
So sax is technically a woodwind but everyone calls it a brass. Louis is technically a herbivore but has the attitude of a carnivore.
I subbed. I didn't even realise how small of a creator you were until I checked! This is so very professional, and very good.
I really loved the effort that was put into this video. Even though, I didn't really understand the music terminology since I'm not a musician (or am familiar with notes etc.), but I really do appreciate the appreciation that you and many others show and it's music. Personally, my favorite track would have to be "Legoshi's Feelings". The feeling I have for it is indescribable, but at the beginning with the trumpets (don't know if it's the right instrument, please don't flame me), I feel like what that says is that Legoshi's come to terms with his feelings not only for Haru, but he is ready to take on society and how it's views on a Carnivore and Herbivore having a relationship is frowned upon. Great show, Great Music, Great characters. Already finished the manga, but still excited for season 3.
Oh! The author of Beastars, Paru, is an amazing individual in their own right. She even wears a fursuit in public spaces due to her anxiety (it is a chicken, and if you know even 2 cents of the series you can tell which character is her self insert :3.)
The Berserk soundtrack is one of a kind as well, between Beastars and that, anime music masterclass
I dont understand how you only have 145 subs. Great video!
A fellow music connoisseur, Minewitcher2. I can recommend you check out the osts for: De Blob 1 and 2, Cuphead, Team Fortress 2 and any Sam and Max work. All great jazz each with distinctly different styles, and are usually a little more energetic than Beastars, if you like that.
Bro!!
I only have to said that you made a EXCELENT review of Beastars in specially with the music section.
Congratulations!!
You just win a new sub ;)
It's a relief that in season two their are still using the same soundtrack
Thankyou ^^ ...and yes I’m interested when season two wraps up to make a video on the new music.
@@Minewitcher2 Also I wanna know your thought about the beautiful animation/music of the ending of season 2 :) Greetings
Of course, although I don’t think it’ll be as comprehensive as this video. I have been watching each episode as it comes out in Japan
@@Minewitcher2 ohh of course you're right. This video is a masterpiece review ;). Im also watching season 2 each Wednesday sub. We are almost on the climax of the season xD
@@martinoli96 I knoooow I’m exited~
I'm not much a fan of anthropomorphic animals *or* anime, but I stopped by a friend's while she was watching and I heard one of the background songs and was instantly enthralled. She then took me back to episode one and we binge watched the entire season. I simply couldn't leave before it was over, and probably overstayed my welcome. It was clear she wasn't expecting me to watch with her, no less be so captivated. I learned a few of the songs on bass and she was sidewinded by how much I enjoyed it. And so was I, to say the least. Hats off to your exceptional content, it only made me fall in love with the show again. I just wish I had found it sooner. You've earned a sub out of me, can't wait to see what next season brings.
I haven't noticed the music ! That is AMAZING
a dont know much about music.. but I can relate to hard work and emotions... thank you for such an amazing video.. I just watched "how it was made; for animation in Beastars" and your video was just what I needed cuz music in Beastars is nothing short of perfection.. the whole show truly is just perfect and it sits in the top spot with Arcane for THE best 2 shows I have ever watched
This video was so good how come you only have 250 subs?
i know absolutely nothing about music theory but i knew that the beastars soundtrack was my favourite anime soundtrack for all these reasons...
So this is the reason I love these ost so much even I don't know why
Just in case anyone was wondering, it’s pronounced “Louis” not “Rouis” as said by Paru. Kolo is Collot, and there are many other language specific accents due to the lack of certain sounds and the awkwardness of linking them together in Japanese.
Wolf and rabbit plays when legoshi asks haru a "life changing" question in the school library 💍
This video deserves so many more views
I dream of having enough talent and skill to make a video like this
este video es una obra maestra! muchísimas gracias por este análisis! se nota un buen trabajo y un trabajo de corazón
Your review is really something else! Really love how you pointed out the OSTs! They are really really beautiful!
I'm sorry, not relevant to the video at all, but at 06:22 ya voice sounds so nice, soft and relaxin! I just wanted to say ya have a nice voice lol
Btw if ya like the Beastars OST i suggest ya listen to the Monogatari series OST, since it's composed by the same person.
Aww thank you, I think I kinda butchered the pronunciation though lol
pf solo is the best main theme rendition, this is business i will stand on
beastars music is truly such an important part of the anime and I hope they keep that charm for season 3 I love beastars
It's not quite "on twos" or whatever - you're on the right track in terms of "mostly when you watch this show you're seeing two still frames..." of a character or background. But they alternate which is moving. So frame one characters walking move, frame two camera/background moves, frame three characters take another move, and so on. That contributes to how fluid it looks while it still looks "right" to anime-eyes since frames seem to last the right amount of time. Also frequently Legoshi is on threes because he's so lumbering and huge, something I can relate to. And of course they bust out per-frame updates for quick motion, like Legoshi's land-backstroke when he notices Juno is laying next to him on the club floor. And "action scenes" (to avoid spoilers).
I’m definitely not as knowledgeable about animation compared to music or story. I’m definitely super interested by it and want to learn more!
I already love the soundtrack of BEASTARS but this video made me love it much more :'3
Can't wait to see if you tackle Beastars S2! So far the season 2 music has been absolutely top notch!
Your content being slept on bro
This was a very interesting analytical breakdown of music, never had any music talent myself nor have I ever really thought much of notes/scales outside of school
Loved this video.
That being said, saxophones are a woodwind instrument, not brass.
Amazing analysis. Thank you for this.
This is an amazing review, it deserves many more views!
It's interesting to compare and contrast the soundtrack of this anime with "Peter and the Wolf"
The final of "wolf and rabbit" is such a masterpiece, i love this show because of the content and the wonderful soundtrack, i also feel very happy when there are many people notice the ost. Btw how did you get those sheets

pablo mexnel awe thank you, that’s so kind!
Please go over Land of the Lustrous next, I love the music and is the first anime adaptation studio orange made. It's really beautiful and emotional much like the manga itself.
All skills and elements in this show are so good.
So much emotion and detail in every scene, literally a masterpiece!
Totally agree with your opinions, good review. Keep going!
Thankyou!
Good video! This show deserves something like this!
You are underrated.
Btw beastars is rlly good though.
good video and solid analysis, i love that you made that spreadsheet and the transcriptions, great fucking work👍
that title's clickbait tho
Hehe, gotta make some cuts somewhere :p
Amazing work dude
I'm not even able to play an instrument but this video was amazing. Thank you
I love your videos, I really teared up on that rio review, lol, you had me really nostalgic. I got inspired from seeing your review to go re-watch it, and damm nostalgia is a hell of a drug, huh? I watched that so many times when I was younger. I also loved this review, I love how you appreciate the music aspect much more than in other reviews, imo, it really is the most important mood/emotion setter. Thank you for making such high quality videos! You really do deserve more attention. But honestly, I don't think you can get attention like that from posting every 4mo on UA-cam anymore, sadly. It's just a shame you can't upload very often. Besides that, keep up the good work!
Rio 2 review when, lol, that video is weeellll over 50 views, Rio 2 is definitely not one of my faves. Original Rio is 10x better, still *decent*, but eh. But honestly, I will still watch any review you do on anything, even if I don't like that show/movie a lot, I will always like your videos. Thank you for providing these great reviews, I truly think that for your documentary-level reviews, you should have at least 200k subs. Thank you so much! A wish you a good day.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I try my best to work on videos as much as I can but balancing school, three jobs and a social life is kinda hard when I have to pour hours into videos like this, though I enjoy making them so much and hearing support from people like you makes it so worth the hours I put in. Honestly thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will try my best to upload more often.
Rio two is coming after my music of botw video but I’m a majority of the way through that so hopefully it’ll be out within a month. I also plan to upload much smaller videos of the same quality in between my big uploads to *appease the algorithm* anyway, thank you so much, I won’t let you down!
@@Minewitcher2 Oooooooh, I'm HYPED for the music of botw, l love that game so much! I listen to the botw OST all the time, its good stuff. Can't wait to see your video on it!
Thank you for replying! Having three jobs, I can understand why you don't upload much, sounds rough. Looking forward to the next video! I wish you the best of luck!
Keep up the great work man
Me, a Latina whose native tongue is American english, and totally didn't realize that Japanese yeets the letter L out of existence: Oh *Puts out the torch and drops the pitchfork.*
Well i mean language is just an infinite system of vastly unique combinations of vocalizations put together to form words anyways, so why not have R's instead of L's, especially since in Spanish, J is apparently an H, 2 L's together is a Y, and any singular R has a slight D sound to it. 😅😅😅
You should make a video about the music of the second season. The masterclass just continues!
Finally someone is talking about soundtrack of Beastars.
Awesome review! It's a shame I only found this now. Really liked the interpretation of each instruments. I have some questions on harmony though, 1) on 8:05 I didn't understand not landing on the tonic and using the sixth chords, because the song is in Dm and I think it follows a fairly simple 2-5-1(Gm or Em7b5 - A7 - Dm)? I thought the use of traditional chord progressions was what really gave the melancholic feeling. 2) on 22:40, I don't think this makes that much of a difference, but the song is in C major so I think it's better to denote the ending chord as Fmaj9 rather than C6sus? I think its clearer because the melody resolves to a 4th rather than the tonic. Anyways, definitely appreciate all the transcriptions!! There's really quite some passion here.
Rouis is not a carnivore, but 🎷
Season 2: Hold my antlers...
I made a review for this show too but damn this is one good video, your videos are actually good quality.
i dont understand music, but this was an amazing video!
