    Ooh I am loving all of these stats! I love that you did publication year. I used to track that and then I apparently just kind of forgot. That would be so fascinating to get back to, though! Your charts and graphs and edits look so good! I'm sure it took quite a while to do so just wanted to say I'm impressed! Also loved seeing the different themes in your reading. The world map is such a great idea, too!! Such a great video, start to finish, and I loved the reflections at the end as well. I hope 2025 is a great reading year for you, with less obligations, lots of intuitive reading, and overall great bookish experiences!

      Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed! 😀 It did take a while haha but I had fun doing it, it's my happy place to get lost in details of a project ´like that 😊 Still fun to hear it's appreciated, so thank you!
      I filled most of it out in November-December, since there weren't that many books I could just look up the details on goodreads. At least for things like publication year! Themes are a bit more of a subjective value! The map was so fun to do, but I hope it looks different next year. Definitely good motivation to make some other choices this year.
      Thank you so much for your well-wishes! 😁 I hope so too, and I'm determined to keep my word to myself and keep things fun and selfish! I hope you have a fantastic reading year as well! 💜

    Ellen, this is amazing! I love the detail you put into this video, I loveee stats🤣I think it's so interesting to look back at the themes, that's something I might have to incorporate into my wrap up at the end of this year! Also loved that you looked at spending, it really shows the difference between buying new vs second hand

      @ellenmadebookclub  22 дні тому

      Thank you Laura! 🥰 I agree, the themes are so fun! I'm not sure how I ended up with so many books about imprisonment though haha 😂 certainly wasn't intentional! But I guess it makes for an intriguing story. I wish I could buy all the new releases coming out, but I'm going to have to be a bit more mindful in the coming year. Luckily there's the charity shop! 😃 And the library!!! I just got an email today saying they had purchased like six of my suggestions, so I consider them my personal shelf away from home haha!

    Wow, I applaud you for all the work you put into these stats!! It paid off for sure, everything looks so nice and it was a very thorough look at your reading year. I’m not usually big into stats but this was still interesting 😊 Mimi will love this, haha. It is very enlightening to have everything laid out and to see what you’d like to change, but also to see what worked for you. I hope you have a great reading year of diverse books, more mood reading, more library usage, and 52 books read so you have the satisfying graphic! 😉

      Thank you so much! 🥰 I think it's fun, and I figured it would mostly be interesting to me anyways haha but if I'm going to do it, might as well make it extra! 😅 It was enlightening though, so it felt worthwhile in the end. I would have liked to include translated works as well, just to have as a comparison for next year. All of it is really just to have as a comparison for next year! Hard to measure improvement without a starting point.
      Thank you so much for your well wishes! I've loved all of the book club reads and buddy reads (ongoing ones included!) but my brain is saying chill, so I need to listen. Mood reading and library loans it is! And Diversity Challenge! Hopefully my wallet and my enjoyment levels will thank me 🥰
      Thank you for being here! 💜

    Hi Ellen, congratulations on your first year of creating videos. I am so not a statistics person but I enjoyed watching how you classified your books. The only book we have in common is called before the coffee gets cold” which I just read and it was just OK for me. I hope you have a happy new year and a successful second year on book tube. Aloha.

    Ellen! this was so INCREDIBLY well done!! The stats were so satisfying and your organization and editing of this was excellent. I really enjoyed seeing how many genres you read, and all the authors you read and where they were from, it was great to be able to see a full visual of that. Every detail was so well put together! also as a canadian girlie, a paperback book here costs $25 and you can't really find any second hand books for less than $5 so I think you did very well with the book purchases you made!

    • @ellenmadebookclub
      @ellenmadebookclub  20 днів тому

      @@daniella-raye Thank you so much! 🥰 I wish the author visuals looked a bit different, but at least it was very informative! And I don’t think I’m alone in that, it just doesn’t align with my goals and values. Thanks, that helps to hear! And I’m sorry to hear your prices are so insane! The reason the new books I bought are relatively expensive is that they are mostly in English. A paperback in Swedish costs maybe 8-12 USD. Which is weird to me, because who is paying the translators..? But anyway/ Second hand is great, but not a lot of new releases, like in your LFLs! 😅 And especially not in English. So I guess if I buy new books, I have to buy A LOT of used books, to keep that average down… right?! 😆

    Such a thorough review! Well done! The graphic looks great and it was really cool to see all the different angles you considered. I also loved that you included some take-aways - very thoughtful and smart! I wished I had seen this before filming my own stats video XD But I can still take the inspiration for next year ^^

    Omg I love the monthly recaps and that you included milestones in your booktube journey as well! You really thought about everything- I love the topics you chose to focus on- very interesting to see in a holistic view. I wouldn't have even thought to look at publication years but its so interesting! The themes were fun too. I did way more damage than that in book buying this year- especially if I include book boxes 😅I should really figure out how much I spent but I'm scared to know haha Fantastic job!!
    p.s. I did do a basic calculation of book spending and I am too ashamed to even say the amount 😂😳

      @ellenmadebookclub  19 днів тому

      Thank you! 🥰 I’m so glad you said that, I felt like the monthly recaps were interesting to no one but me but I made an executive decision to keep them in anyway haha! Good for memories. Glad you enjoyed 😊 And I’m also glad I’m not alone in spending more than planned! You had such a rough start to the year though, so I feel like a little bookish retail therapy is allowed. Although I prefer to make that a conscious choice rather than having it be a surprise, but still! 😄 No need to share numbers, just enjoy your books! 😊
      Haha I also love how the book boxes might or might not be included, as if it’s not really money and books changing hands 😂

      Haha so glad you enjoyed the pie charts! 😄 I need to be better at tracking my spending this year, so it doesn’t look like that again… It wasn’t too bad, but I would rather choose to spend that than realize I did spend that 😂 And if I knew that was my budget, I might have made some other choices, We live and we learn!

    This is really impressive! I love the visual presentation and Mariana Trench level deep dive. The theme analysis is really interesting. There were more dark books than I expected, and who'd have thought you are such a big reader of imprisonment and confinement stories :) Or that so many are written? Your spending data surprised me. Getting all those used books is a bargain, but $13.90 for a new book seems a lot. Maybe it isn't - I don't buy many physical books and I'm probably out of touch. I wonder how $58 a month compares with what the average reader spends. I'm way less but have Libby for free and only have to supplement here and there with audiobooks and ebooks that they're never going to get. For what you get from books, it's probably well worth the outlay, but you almost want everything to be a 5 star or a least a 4 star, which you're close to, anyway. I love the maps! The dominance of UK and American is interesting but I suppose that will be the same for a lot of readers in terms of what's available to people who read in English. It's great you have takeaways and 'learn' something from the stats. I totally get the obligations thing. An impromptu buddy read is one thing, but committing to books you might not be in the mood for but have to read spoils all the fun. I agree about instincts, too. Watching booktube has really broadened what I read and I've found some amazing books, but I need to listen to what the book offers and not get sucked in just because I like the person or share their taste. Congrats if you made it to the end of this comment! I voted for the stats video and really enjoyed seeing how you analysed your year in books. I hope all your takeaways result in a great reading year for 2025.

      @@RDsLibrary Thank you so much! 😄 I was 100% sure Mariana Trench was a person, like a female Bob Ross kind of character from a British children’s show on science or something 😂 It was in fact not! Good name for one though, I think! 👵🏻
      Well the dark themes are why my mental health took a turn! Not the only reason, but some of them didn’t help. Something to be mindful of as a sensitive person. It’s what intrigues me though, so it’s a balancing act! Maybe you are out of touch - prices have gone up! 😄 Although the books in English are a lot more expensive here than the ones in Swedish, so that’s one aspect. I would love to see more people share what they spend. I don’t think $58 is too much to spend on a hobby, but I don’t like finding out after the fact that’s how much I spent. I’m learning to appreciate my library more and more though, and letting them buy books for me 😊
      Yes, I think the maps are not very original, but that doesn’t make it less sad! I find it motivating though, a mission to have my maps look different next year.
      Yeah the obligations is annoying! It’s all in my head, but still very real. I love doing the book club and the buddy reads, but I need less deadlines and requirements in my life, not more, so that will change. No regrets though.
      Exactly! I love all the recs, but at the end of day it’s my time spent with the book, so I want to be more selective. Sometimes it’s fun to try to see what you agree with or not, and whose recs to take, but again, balance! And I think that’s what makes everyone different too, I like seeing different readers on here. When I come across a new channel and their shelf looks like one I’ve seen 100 times already, I’m not staying very long.
      Thank you for voting and I’m glad you enjoyed the deep dive! 😊

    I'm SO here for the graphics and everything 🍿 I absolutely LOVE the way you made your graphics, they're gorgeous 😍 So easy to understand, and good to grasp what you read, especially the highlights and events per every month as well. I'm glad that you came to found out that mood reading helps you get through the book! Definitely mood read is so much more fun, and allow me to vibe the most. The sort by color was one of my favorite piece of data LOL. How did you decide on your genres? I mark my own but did you reference something else? I always go back and forth on whether or not I should fall into what Goodreads/Storygraph categorize it or not, instead of doing it myself. Did I go into my spreadsheet and add them? Yep, yep, yep as I saw some of your themes/categories.
    I think I want to add books I purchased too in the future too to see how my cost is for reading. 🫢 Definitely not fair for me to talk about how much I saved without talking about the books I payed for. I like how you did the average rating compared to Goodreads! I've decided just to vibe with my ratings -- what I realize is that people who rate high will average out with people who rate low, and it'll work out in the end. But I AM curious to see how I fair against Goodreads average. So much data, and I'm here for it. I love your reflection at the end, and I'm excited to see how it changes in 2025!

    • @ellenmadebookclub
      @ellenmadebookclub  18 днів тому +1

      Thank you so much Mimi, I'm so glad you enjoyed! 🥰 Yes, I need to get out of my head and focus on mood reading more. So much more fun! Haha I love the sort by color too 😁
      On the genres, I marked them myself, and I just picked the one that felt the most "foundational" if that makes sense. Like The Maiden for instance is a mystery set in the 1600s, but I felt like the focus wasn't on the mystery in terms of the genre. We weren't following a case or a detective and looking for clues, it was more about the women living in that time and place, so historical fiction felt like first choice, mystery second. It's historical fiction with an element of mystery. So I put historical. Most books have more than one element to it, so I just tried to pick what couldn't be excluded, if that makes sense. And I think it helps to have other things separate, like audience (adult, YA), time of publication (for things like "classic" which I wouldn't say is a genre in itself) and theme / mood (which could be dark, mysterious, feminist, lighthearted, etc). I could do a template of my sheet and link it if you want to poke around! 😄
      And I would definitely want to see you track you spending, as well as saving! 😀 I would love to see more people doing that, I feel like it's a bit hush hush sometimes haha! People just doing massive hauls and not even mentioning how much they spent. Rating is also really interesting to me! It's very limiting to capture everything about a book in just a 1-5 star system. I go on vibes, if it feels like a four star, it's a four star! But I probably attach sentiments to it as well, like 4="would recommend", 5="hall of fame, would re-read" or something along those lines. I would be very interested to see how your average rating compares to the goodreads average! 😄
