    I love this tag! Such a fun way to assess reading goals before the end of the year. I love what you said at the end about your goals for next year and your goal being more about how you'll feel next year than any number or specific book. LOVE that!!

    I'm so glad that you had a better month of reading in Oct. Sometimes we just need a good mood break for reading! I did the audio of Remarkably Bright Creatures as well and I really liked it. I didn't really know what to expect, but it was quite sweet! I had also thought it was just about Tova and Marcellus, so I was so confused at first when other people starting popping in the story. 😂 Little Rumours sounds intriguing! I have Rewitched on my TBR thanks to you but haven't gotten it yet! It sounds fun! Beartown! ❤ SO good. I love his little weird metaphors and descriptions!! One Dark Window and I Who Have Never Known Men also sound interesting! I just heard about One Dark window today (I think on Facebook?) and Never Known Men I heard about a while ago. But I definitely want to check both out!

    I'm glad you had such a good reading month. Some really good books there. It sounds like I liked RBC a bit more than you as I loved it! @@helenclare3250 Thank you, me too 😊 RBC was lovely, and much better than I had expected. I’m not usually much for feel good stories, which I would say this is, but I still liked it a lot, so for me that’s a good grade! 😄 I’m glad you loved it! Little Rumours was good too, medium suspense I would say. I would love to know what you think of it if you get to it. It’s been so long since I read a good thriller so I’m lacking references a bit. I said this in the chat but I'm so happy that you enjoyed your books for this month 🥰 You really addressed some of the wariness towards Remarkably Bright Creatures -- I was worried it'll just be about the two of MC that we hear about in the blurb. That's good to note and know! I'm putting down One of Our Own/Little Rumours as books to check out for a mystery thriller. I've been dabbling into thriller mysteries and it's not going very well. Current average rating for thriller/mysteries is... 2 ⭐ But I will say, all of them were available now at the library, and I didn't really look too much into it. But since this is a good review personally from you, I'm excited 😂 Are they all 1st POV? My soonTM rant about thrillers/mysteries has to do with how 1st POV is executed sometimes 😩 Looking forward so much to Beartown!! I love very characters with a lot dept for me to think about 🥰I was planning to listen to Yellowface as an audiobook because it's available at library but maybe not now 🫢 Voices are 100% sure hits or miss for me. I need the voices to WORK and click, otherwise I will DNF 😂I'm voting for One Dark Window if you end up reading extras books because Chelsea is also reading it! Favorite book for October was What My Bones Know: A Memoir of Healing from Complex Trauma! An extremely insightful book that had so many layers to unpack. No real plans for November except for a failing attempt to get into mystery thrillers 😂 PS GRATS ON 400 SUBS!

      Thank you so much! 🥰 I'm very happy with my reading this month! Yes, RBC is worth the read! There is intrigue and a bit of a mystery to it and t was a lot more like a normal novel than I had thought, plus the octopus, which does add to it. Yeah, let me know if you give any of them a try! One of Our Own is only about 4 hours on audiobook. I would say they are suspense at least, I guess they would be thrillers, but they're not the most suspenseful ever, if that's what you're looking for. I'd say medium, kind of in the sense a true crime documentary is suspenseful, if that makes sense! I want to read more thrillers, let me know if you find a good one! 😄 I can't remember pov, I think Little Rumours was 1st, there were different voices reading the different chapters. One of Our was probably also 1st, as it was more enacted, and the woman was the narrator. I can't remember. I didn't have a problem with either of them though. Look forward to your rant, and maybe then I can decide if any of it was true for these! 😄 Beartown definitely has a LOT of characters, and you only get glimpses at a time, but it really works. You get in all their heads, which I loved. I couldn't stand the narration of Yellowface, I mean I did listen to the whole book, so it wasn't bad enough to make me DNF. Maybe it was just too much of the same. It wasn't her voice for me, it was just the constant tone of arrogance that got to me. But that's also how the book itself is, so... I get why it works for some people. I think Chelsea liked it! Try it out and see what you think ^^ I'm almost done with I who have never known men, but now I only have four days to get through One Dark Window, sooooo we'll see! Maybe if it reads super fast! I would really like to read What My Bones Know as well, it sounds very interesting. And heavy. I'm glad you liked it though! What thrillers have you read? PS Thank you 🥰💜

    another iconic video as ALWAYS!!! once again, exact same feelings as you on the prison healer series, so after you finish it and maybe have some breathing room i still HIGHLY recommend the Dance of Thieves series by Mary Pearson which gave me what i wanted from that series instead! you definitely have me more interested in remarkably bright creatures now, i had the same thoughts about it so im glad to know it has those interesting elements to it going in! and THANK YOU i 100% agree on the audiobook narrator thing, like sometimes i just have to drop an audiobook because of the narrators voice. I tried to read the YA series The Inheritence Games via audiobook and dropped it after a few chapters because it was very whiney and juvenile in a way that I knew would make me dislike the character even if the writing wasn't bad 😭 like i am sure they are a talented narrator, it just didn't work for me!

    • @ellenmadebookclub
      @ellenmadebookclub День тому

      Oh, iconic haha I'll take that, thank you 🥰 I have finished the third book as well now! I think it does stay consistent, so it was good entertainment, but not top top quality. I'm open to Dance of Thieves, remind me again in February! 😄 Yes, RBC is worth the read. There is intrigue and a bit of a mystery to it. It was a lot more like a normal novel than I had thought, plus the octopus, which does add to it. The audiobook was great as well! I'm so glad I'm not alone haha! I might have been a bit harsh in the video, but I feel like it's not just the narrator themselves either, it's the whole production of audiobooks. I'm like did they all hear this and think it was good?! Have they ever listened to an audiobook themselves? There could at least be an indication, like "dramatized" or "neutral", so you know what you're getting into. Some people have loved the narration of Yellowface, but I can't stand the constant blast combined with what sounds to me like condescension. Ugh. No. So annoying though, I really wanted to read the books! 😭

    This is an awesome tag! I believe that you'll finish Ours soon -- I believe!! 🥰 I didn't know that it was about hockey at all from Fredrik Backman. I'm really excited to see what you think about A Dark Window 😲 It's been on my TBR for so long but I haven't gotten around to it. It seemed like it'll be something up my alley. I also have no idea about anything about prizes 😂 I almost never base my picks from the prizes... it has to do with those who talk about the books. I think it's a much more personal touch, and after watching people's videos I know a bit more about their views so I know what to take away from their review a lot more than from a person I know nothing about. It's such a good reminder that we're not in competition into anything!! We're just here to read for our own benefits and wants, and not anything else!! I'm definitely making a note of this tag to personally just reflect on my reading goals too 😂The 2 books for sure I want to get to is: Ruthless Vows (I want to finish one series at least!!!), and Anxious People. not sure who will be on the list as the 3rd pick just yet.

    • @ellenmadebookclub
      @ellenmadebookclub 3 дні тому

      I agree! Haha thank you for the confidence! 😂 I have my doubts, but I'll do my best! It is and isn't about hockey. I don't care about hockey at all but I still loved it. I'm so excited to get to One dark window, it's on top of the pile. It seems like a fun time! That's so true about prizes vs personal recs and reviews. I kind of think of prizes the same though, like I want to "get to know" a prize so that I know if I like what they like. Which ones most aligns with my taste. If I can find one that does, that's a good source of great recs! But it doesn't mean those are better than any other rec from anyone. Absolutely! There are so many people telling everyone else what to think and what's the right way of reading, and I just find it so exhausting! Like, leave me alone to enjoy whatever books I want! 😂 Let me know what your third pick will be if you decide on one 😊
