Oh man! We’ve heard so many good things about Koh Chang! We really need to make an effort to visit. I believe Koh Samet is a great place to check out, so hopefully you get a chance and agree. 😊
Thai holy basil is one of my favourites so Pad Krapow is one of my all time favourites too, when I can find thai basil, which isn't that easy to find here in the UK.
Pad Krapow is insanely delicious. We have friends from Thailand and before we visited for the first time, we asked them what their favorite food is and what they. missed the most about Thai food, and when they said "stir fried basil" we were really confused... now we understand. I don't think I could live without pad krapow in my life. Extra spicy is the way! 🌶🌶🌶
@@mikeandashley yep, Thai holy basil has a flavour profile that is unique to anything else. If you ever end up in Indonesia or Malaysia, I would encourage you to seek out and try Beef Rendang. It is a king of dishes that if cooked correctly, has many ingredients, and is cooked slowly for many hours. It has a depth of flavour that makes it stand out from almost every other.
We've been to both of those countries and LOVE rendang. It's so good that we had it twice in our KL video. 😅 The flavors out here are just wild. So vibrant. It makes me wonder what they call food back home. Haha.
@@mikeandashley good drills. Rendang is right up there for me as one of the best dishes in the world. Coming from a western palate it's understandable that Asian food will be in stark contrast. I remember talking to a Thai friend about 'spice', which in countries like Thailand is usually chillies. But in the UK for example, there is pepper, horseradish, mustard that can be 'hot'. I absolutely love Thai cuisine particularly, but then I also have a fondness for British food too. Roast pork and cracking, a good beef and ale pie, goose fat roast potatoes. Most countries have hidden gems on the menu, and it's a lot of fun finding them and trying them out. Safe travels.
So cool you show us around the non touristy place. Are you visiting Bangkok anytime soon? If you do, please visit Khun Yim Market at Udom Suk especially Khanom Jeen Finver Jae Pad, they have delicious chicken green curry and it's super affordable.
We’re glad you enjoyed it! We’ve realized over the last two years that I think we often prefer the less touristy places, so you may be seeing more of them soon-ish! 🙂 We will be in and out of Bangkok over the next few months, so please, let us know if there are any hidden gems we should check out! Feel free to hit us up on Instagram or Facebook @mikeandashleytravel. ☺️ Thanks so much! 🙏
Haha, yea, so far, I can handle any spice the world can throw at me. I’m sure that will change one day! 😅😂 Ashley is always doing adorable things, I need to keep a camera running all the time! 😂
Don't know if you go further to Trat province. It has some renown islands, koh chang. From koh chang you can take a speedboat to nearby island called koh kood and koh mak. Beaches in Koh kood and koh mak are stunning. Check it out next time. P.S. Beware sandfly on the beach during rainy season especially beaches around gulf of Thailand.
Thanks for the tips! We didn’t make it this time around, but hopefully we’ll be able to the next opportunity we get. We’d love to explore as many of the islands as possible! There’s so much beauty in Thailand.
You can always tell good people from bad when they stop and take time to pet animals on the streets. Empathy for animals is an indication of your human nature. Subbed..

Maybe it’s not a “hidden gem” by your standards, but it’s undoubtedly nowhere near as crowded as Phuket, the party islands or Koh Samui. We were pleasantly surprised to be one of few Western tourists on the island, but maybe it was the time of year we visited. 🙂
We do. And compared to the other islands in Thailand that get all the credit and raved about, this, from our point of view, is a hidden Gem. 💎 Which islands do you consider hidden gems? We’d love to check out any suggestions. 😊
"Go to Samet, everyone is finished." This is a sentence that almost every Bangkokian from the time I was a teenager knew this sentence. It's a non-serious sentence. It's a bit of a funny sentence. The meaning is when you take your lover to Koh Samet. Your relationship will rise to the next level. Because it is a very romantic place and not too far from Bangkok. It's a bit funny and rated 18+.😂😂😂
What you heard may be inaccurate. Samed is a well-known island for Thai people as a weekend party destination, popular among the LGBTQ+ community and people who don't have much time. It's near Bangkok, affordable, and easy to access. It hardly advertises to foreigners since they already receive enough local tourists. I wouldn't recommend it to foreigners either since there are many other beautiful islands. Why spend time on something ordinary when you travel thousands of kilometers from your home country? The island is quiet on weekdays, especially during the rainy season. It can be nice if you stay at a good resort, but there are much nicer islands nearby, such as Koh Chang, or further away like Koh Kood and Koh Mak. The last two islands are definitely gems because it takes time to travel to them, and most Thais won't have that much time. If they do, they would rather go south than to the east. The cleanliness of Thai beaches depends on the season. In the east of Thailand, the water will be clear around the beginning of the year when the currents bring in clear water. Even the typically unattractive Bang Saen and Pattaya beaches can look okay at that time. Most of the garbage floats from the rivers into the sea and is blown back to the shore by waves. Normally, deserted beaches will be very dirty because no one takes care of them, but those with beachfront resorts will be kept clean by the resort staff. However, apart from the mainland east of Thailand, it's beyond cleaning.
That makes sense. I believe when we talk about it being a hidden gem, we’re saying that it doesn’t get attention from tourists outside of Thailand. We don’t hear about Koh Samed when people talk about Thai islands, only the others that you’ve mentioned and the very popular ones. So for us, this felt just right. We love the local vibes and the laid back atmosphere of the places we visited. To us, Koh Samed is where it’s at! It didn’t feel ordinary at all. 👌
@@mikeandashley You guys aim to travel long period and explore places that most tourists don't. As a local from Bangkok, I’d recommend some destinations near the city that are popular weekend getaways-places I personally love to visit again and again. 1. **Hua Hin**: It's well-known among Scandinavians, who tend to keep it a secret as they enjoy the calm atmosphere. However, as Hua Hin has become busier with Chinese and Russian tourists, many have moved further to Pran Buri, Sam Roi Yod, or even Huai Yang. Prachuap Khiri Khan offers many peaceful beaches without the nearby factories that found on the eastern seaboard, so the beaches are far from any chemical industries its what I love about Hua Hin. Hua Hin is popular among the Thai middle class, with many 5-star resorts. There are resorts that foreigners prefer, and some that are favorites among Bangkokians-I won’t spoil the details, but if you're on a budget, you can find good deals during the weekdays when it's cheaper. There are also many affordable options, though they might not be beachfront. The best part of Hua Hin Beach is the long stretch between Hilton and InterContinental, where the sand is smoother, and during high tide, there's still a dry beach. The best budget beachfront options, if you rent a car, are a bit further away resorts from Hua Hin's center try those near the airport the beach not as nice but would have 5 stars akike facilities resort in very affordable price. If you're interested in a very typical Thai beach, there's a town called Cha-Am, located 50 km before Hua Hin or before Chaam there is a place in Phetchaburi Province city centre called Phra Nakhon Khiri, an old palace on the Mountain you might like find out snd skip it if you hate Monkey cause they are everywhere. 2. **Khao Yai**: This is one of the top weekend destinations for people from Bangkok. The main attraction is the National Park, but since most Thai people have already visited, they return for the themed resorts. Some are built in Italian or British styles. One that impressed me was Hotel La Casetta by Toscana Valley-having been to the real Tuscany region in Italy, this replica looks very convincing for first timers. The National Park is also a great place to visit it also one of the most visit National park in Thailand, but since it’s more geared toward Thais, you might need to do a lot of research beforehand to plan your trip there aint much info in English like most of other places. 3. **Pattaya**: Often known as a sin city, but in reality, Pattaya has much more to offer than its reputation suggests. Wongamat in the north, central Pattaya, south Pattaya, and Jomtien-Na Jomtien each offer different vibes. Most foreigners focus on Central and South Pattaya, which are known for their nightlife. Personally, I prefer to stay at resorts in Na Jomtien or Wongamat, where the beaches are lovely and peaceful, unlike the more chaotic parts of the city that well know as red light distict its where foreigner tourist like to be and complain that its bad. Other notable destinations include **Kanchanaburi** (staying by Srinakharindra dam might be a unique experience but I wouldnt reccomend to be on the froating hotel it more expensive and less convenient ), **Nakhon Nayok** (a local favorite for waterfalls), and **Kaeng Krachan**, which is similar to Nakhon Nayok There are much more but Id try to keep it short which is still long anyway I hope you enjoy your time in Thailand. Don’t miss the places I mentioned if you have the chance-locals visit them for a reason. P.S. **Sukhothai** was the first Thai capital, and its ruins are much more impressive than Ayutthaya's. It's also a UNESCO World Heritage site, but it's only worth visiting if you know how to navigate the area, as most foreigners don't really cover all the highlights they are spread around you guys didnt even cover a good part of Ayuthaya which is very very easy to navigate lol.

I used to take my two kids to Tub Tim beach many years ago! It was quiet and secluded. Now it has become the 'Gay Resort beach' of Bangkok's young men. A bit intimidating last visit to say the least! I'm accepting of all types in life but these dudes got quite outrageous! Never again!
Oh wow. I bet it's a really fun place to party then! It was quite empty and chill when we were there. But yeah, if a party vibe isn't your idea of a relaxing vacation with your family, we can see why you may look for another beach. Thanks for watching. 😊

Agoda deal is always cheaper - normal in Thailand. When the tourism getting better, the room price charges at full amount and agoda doesn’t help much for them (hotels)
That’s so strange! We used to run a hotel, and you set your own prices on Agoda, Booking, etc. and then you have to pay them a commission. So we would always match the price of Agoda and take the direct booking so we don’t have to pay the commission. But good to know, we will always book online as the prices are better usually. 😊 We would just prefer to pay the $$ to the hotel so the small business gets the $$. But we have to be budget conscious. 😅

Right?! I believe they said they were making stir fry? I was so amazed at how many ants they collected. They were so nice, we spent some time chatting with them before continuing on our way. 😊

We can see why! 😱 So much work to harvest! 🐜🐜
The flavors out here are just wild.
@@mikeandashley lol, just spotted your KL video. Watching now.
We will be in and out of Bangkok over the next few months, so please, let us know if there are any hidden gems we should check out!

You missed the best beach - Ao Wong Deuan (Half Moon Bay). Really - top beach on Samet.

Wonderful video ❤😊
Thank you so much! We’re happy you liked it! 😊🙏
just came back from a month on the island - great place
A month on Koh Samet sounds pretty good right now to be honest. Chill and relaxing I’m sure. 👌
No sorry what is this ogre lady?! 😂😂 I’m so intrigued
Haha, so was I! It's the first thing you see when approaching the island. So many cool statues and lore on the island.
Wow I wish you happiness 😂❤🎉

Really " A hidden jem " the place has had tourism for the last 45 years, the whole island revolves around tourism.
Maybe it’s not a “hidden gem” by your standards, but it’s undoubtedly nowhere near as crowded as Phuket, the party islands or Koh Samui. We were pleasantly surprised to be one of few Western tourists on the island, but maybe it was the time of year we visited. 🙂
@@mikeandashley Do you understand the term " hidden jem "
We do. And compared to the other islands in Thailand that get all the credit and raved about, this, from our point of view, is a hidden Gem. 💎
Which islands do you consider hidden gems? We’d love to check out any suggestions. 😊
Hello 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Hello! 😊👋
Haha, this is the second time we’ve heard this, but I think we get it now! 😅😂
The very good explanation 😂
😂😂😂
Not only the bangkoknist this can be apply to all Thai 55 😅
I like thai❤❤❤
Same! 🥰😊
@@mikeandashley wow I got reply as in return I got a very long useful info 4u since I enjoy watching ur channel .
Other notable destinations include **Kanchanaburi** (staying by Srinakharindra dam might be a unique experience but I wouldnt reccomend to be on the froating hotel it more expensive and less convenient ), **Nakhon Nayok** (a local favorite for waterfalls), and **Kaeng Krachan**, which is similar to Nakhon Nayok
There are much more but Id try to keep it short which is still long anyway
I hope you enjoy your time in Thailand.

Hello! 👋😊 I think you may be the one who recommended us going to Koh Samet! We would love to go to Koh Chang and Koh Kood! And we know about the dogs. We always reach a fist out to let them sniff us first to let us know if they are down for a pet. 😊

FYI, all beaches in Thailand are public, so don’t let the resorts tell you otherwise!
That is good to know! No one told us we couldn’t be anywhere, we just wanted to be sure we weren’t creeping on someone’s beach without permission! 😅
