  • In this episode, Professor Barlis goes through what an exercise stress test is and why it may be useful. He discusses how the test is performed and the kind of information it can provide to your health care professional when evaluating your heart health. There are several variations of stress tests depending on the method used to assess the heart. More commonly is the stress electrocardiogram that uses an ECG / EKG to monitor electrical activity of the heart during exercise. Another test called a stress echocardiogram uses a heart ultrasound to gather pictures of the heart muscle and compare the results before and after exercising on the treadmill. Thanks again for supporting the channel!

How does one get accurate BP readings when you are moving on the treadmill? When you take your BP you are supposed to have your arm flat out at heart level and you’re not supposed to move or talk.

Very well presented. I’m a lot more at ease after listening to this doctor’s explanation.

Nothing shows you how much your cardiac fitness has improved as well as comparing the pre coronary artery bypass stress test, (the one where you feel like you could die), to the stress test you have post op, after a healing time, after the surgeons have done their "magic"...wow!

I had my first stress-echo test 2 years ago and my second stress-echo a couple months back (to make sure no new heart-related issues had surfaced since my first test). Aside from the hard work I was doing at the end of my stress tests, the next hardest thing for me was holding my breath several times while they were grabbing all of the echo images after I completed the treadmill portion of the tests! That was a little tough… but the images were necessary in my case. Finally, the stress-echo report I received after my tests is also very informative- plenty of good info (and metrics) in there for anyone that’s interested.

Hi Dr, I have 60% blockage in LAD. I pass the stress test ok but when I’m at the gym doing squats and heavier lifting I notice lots of shortness of breath where I have to stop and do 5 rep max and drop the weight significantly. The stress test doesn’t pick up my problems I have and they say it all looks ‘normal’. I don’t get angina and I never have since I was first diagnosed back in 2019. I don’t know what to do, they don’t offer me any other alternative and basically sent on my way but I have serious problems exercising with weights. I’m 38 male and look healthy 93kg. I used to be a gym rat before all this started and was very proud of my body. Please help me

Here is a suggestion. To reduce the stress of the stress test, hook up a large monitor in front of the treadmill to show relaxing scenes or coaching the pace. Your room looks as scary as it can be and sure to add 20 stress points to the BP reading

I wore a gown opened in front, the monitor is strapped under your breast and locked in the back so you are not super exposed.

Just had one for chest tightness when walking up hill, I got a diagnosis with Bradycardia via 24hr holter with possible Ischaemia present but the stress didn't show any Ischaemia. I never got to my target heart rate as my legs was like Jelly and fatigued I had chest tightness and SOB. Sending me for scan but given me these medication Bisoprolol and Isosorbide mononitrate as precautionary until scan results. Does this sound right?
I guess I am worried as I've got from having high BP to low BP around 98/59 and I have Bradycardia side effects it can cause dizziness will these medication lower my BP and HR more?

Thanks for this info! The GF goes in next week for hers and to see what comes next.
A shout out goes to both Pfizer and Moderna for her lengthy list of heart problems that 'coincidentally' started appearing within weeks of receiving the "Safe & Effective(tm)" drug injections despite having zero issues pre-injection (and yes, she had regular cardiac evaluations for work requirements to help prove she had no issues).

I was sent for a stress test 13 years ago, My heart rate was 180 before they started, they unhooked me and sent me to the emergency room where they did an angiogram.
I've got a stress test scheduled for tomorrow and I'm a little nervous.

    Stress test:
1-let's see if we can pop your heart.
2-if we didn't pop it, determine how much longer until we can.
