I was deadass sitting here the whole time thinking: "well he's gotta turn out to be fae, because otherwise what's the point?" Exactly like you said, why make a PARANORMAL romance if the romance isn't gonna be... you know... paranormal?? That Fae prince at the end does seem like an obvious future love interest though
If a man doesn’t immediately call me “A Fragrant Piece Of Sparkling Garbage Wrapped in a Bow” and gives me the nickname” Bacon-Strip”. It’s not true love and I’m strutting off lmao
Bisexual here and I have not only never said "I swing both ways" but I have never told any friend, gay, straight or otherwise: "I would do you" because that would be inappropriate. Thank you passionflix for perpetuating the stereotype that bisexuals are obsessed with sex
y’all this movie is based on the book “wicked” by jennifer l armentrout, and i used to absolutely love it as a teen. so at first i was like “omg how could they defile such a good book of my teen youth like this” and then i reread the book.....and unfortunately i think it depicts the book almost perfectly 😭
I used to love the books but they're so bad and so weird. They actually did a pretty loyal adaption too. At least they did something that other studios struggle to do. Come on y'all, if Passionflix can make a loyal adaption (even if it is bad) you can too.
I've painfully realized that the actor for the heartthrob is the same person who played the guy in Riverdale that said "I dropped out in the 4th grade, the run drugs, to support my nana"
Fun fact: Brownie is actually a type of fairy believed to live in a house and help with household chores at night. They are not supposed to look like a winged ambiguously gay man however.
The fact that they're supposed to be such BFFs yet Redhead jumps down her friend's throat once she jokingly flirts at her is kinda concerning. Plus a 'bisexuals are sex fiends/hypersexual' stereotype in this decade and time? Likelier than you'd think. And yeah as a bi girl myself I deadass haven't seen that phrase used outside media because most people just say they're bi. The only good part about this movie is Bargain Bin Lucius Malfoy conjuring a gun to point at the protag
I refer to myself as "swinging both ways" regularly because I can no longer differentiate between things I say unironically and things I say ironically to make fun of ignorant straight people
@@EatyourWafflesplease Exactly though! I will say it jokingly with my friends just to be cringey, but it's not how I actually identify. I say I'm bisexual. If someone's being like I'm sure your future husband is going to be... I say or my future wife. I don't say I swing both ways unless I am with my friends and I'm making fun of cringey people who would say that unironically (I say that now, but if I'm not careful there's a lot of things I started saying ironically, that now I actually say)
i also agree as a summoned bisexual that i have never referred to myself as “swinging both ways” but that horrendous wig took any attention away from that phrase 😄
As a fellow summoned ✨bi✨ Ive only heard The Straights™️ say that. Unless the swing goes from "my type" and "not my type" I'd never say some wild shit like that 🤷🏾♀️
“The Fey with the Sesshomaru wig” was such a pull it felt like she literally reached inside my head to make a reference that only I would find hilarious.
As a bisexual, I get what you were saying about the archaic sound of the term "swinging both ways". I honestly havent said that to describe my sexuality nor have i heard other bisexuals use that. Ive only ever heard it in movies or read it in crappy novels but thats just me. That being said, i get tired of the trope of the bisexual being hyper sexual and/or being annoyingly over flirtatious.
Ehhh...i think its fine cuz they arent really stereotypes..like if i think bisexual i think nothing like no stereotypes...so ig its fine noones being influenced by tropes like that.
I hear the term used more by straight girls so they seem more interesting to guys like this one girl who said she swing both ways but it was obvious that she only liked guys and would try to kiss other girls and would post things like "Wifey🤭😘💞✨".
I hate those stereotype as a bi person I lost a whole friend group because they thought I was gonna flirt with them and try to date them (A group of girls), but I wasn't so those stereotype really annoy me.
hi, bisexual here! 1. never have i ever said “swing both ways” that hasn’t been a phrase since like 1990. i can’t speak for everyone but never in my damn life have i heard that. 2. my best friends and i flirt all the time. we will constantly make s3xual remarks towards each other, especially with our token straight girl friend. and never once has she had to explicitly say “I LIKE BOYS!!” to clarify her sexuality. that’s some “we don’t want the audience to ship the girls more than the mc with our token hit guy so we’re just going to yell at you the fact that she’s straight.”
Right? I'm pan while my bff is straight and we constantly call each other "baby" and "love". And we act like distraught lovers when we cant hangout. Well, I call all my close friends "love" so idk t The bad writing makes it seem like it was their maybe second time talking or hanging out
All of "Tink's" character is a bad play on homosexuality. From him being a brownie (not fairy), being a sugar-holic, to being HSN addicted and baking sweets as a zen method. Also, his mild mannered and almost feminine display of anger (Ren and the whole attack him with slingshot and skillet). It was horrible.
As one of the summoned bisexuals I gotta ask... Is it just me, or was the friend's bisexuality used as foreshadowing of her betrayal to the order? Cause now I'm concearned. Maybe the "swinging both ways" got me thinking too deep into it...
The guy who played Ren looked familiar af, and then it hit me, He’s the “I dropped out in the fourth grade to sell drugs to help out my nana” dude from Riverdale 😭😭😭
yes i was looking at him and was like why do i wanna say the epic highs and lows of football when i look at him? and i looked him up and well damn it was him hhahaahaha! but also i looked at his other stuff, and i realized i have seen half the things he was in but i could not tell you anything about him, like he was in sabrina, but i cannot remember for the life of me who he played!!!
It used to be the cool way to call yourself bisexual. I used to hear it all the time when I was a kid/teenager from the bisexual kids and adults. Nowadays I only hear it from people in their mid twenties and up. Personally I still say it cause I like how it sounds.
Not only straight people. I know for sure I heard it mostly from bisexual people growing up. Like what Melon said, it was the trendy thing to call yourself if you were bi. Straight people heard bi people calling themselves that and thought that it was what they would prefer to be called. It's used much less now in both groups but I just wanted to correct you since some bi people do still like to call themselves that and don't consider it offensive or demeaning or anything like that. Note: this obviously depends on the person and what they would prefer you call them. No one person or group of people can speak for any entire community.
Even as an straight woman, the fact that most of the times when writers and creators put a gay characters in their movie, is because they want them as "the comedic relief"; and their audacity to call it "diversity", makes me feel sick in my stomach.
@@missserenity1090 ow i didn't know it's based on a book! Well i hope that there's more to him in the books, not just him being "the gay bff" stereotype
Vida M He’s a little weird. I am pretty sure he has a thing with one of the princes in the books though. He also does serve as a sort of living Otherworld encyclopedia.
the way the main character reacted to her bi friend saying that she swung both ways by saying 'i like boys' with 100 percent seriousness like it was an attack made me physically recoil
That whole thing was like a red flag for Ivy not being a real friend it seemed like the bubby bisexual was being playful and she was met with borderline homophobia. Ivy could have said, "Unfortunately I like boys." Or "In a perfect world" or "thanks, I needed that."... Ivy's response was more cringe than her bubbly bisexual friend hitting on her.
I feel like “swings both ways” is in the same basket as “batting for the other team” or “friend of Dorothy” where it’s, like, terms that LGBT people used to subtly refer to their/other’s sexuality back in our parents and grandparents day. And much like other older slang like the bee’s knees or groovy, i only ever hear it used ironically or at least tongue in cheek.
I'm ace, but once I saw a tweet that said something like "I was with my mom at home depot and she said "aah, the door swings both ways" and I almost say "like me"" but that is the only moment where a saw a bi person talk about themselves like that.
@@scorpionqueen11 oh god please no. That sounds like one of those cheap bargain books with some ripped cowboy on the front that single moms and Caleb Joseph buy from Walmart.
"Hey bisexuals, do you ever refer to yourselves as swinging both ways." A bisexual here, and . . . yeah . . . I kinda did refer to myself as "swinging both ways" on occasion, but I'm a painfully old bisexual with outdated terminology, and I don't think the bi youngins use the same lingo as me. Nowadays, I only use the "swing both ways" phrase as a dad joke.
The villain guy looks like Lucius Malfoy in the same way Miranda Cosgrove looks like Michael Jackson if that makes sense. Also I can’t believe that the love interest is the same guy who looks like someone tried to draw a Jonas bother with their eyes closed from memory who was in Riverdale
I will say this movie is interesting in one aspect: it stayed true to a lot of the original mythology of the Fae. The Fae is a actual thing in Celtic/Irish lore. They’re a race of these supernatural beings that lived in hollow hills all over Europe. There are many types of Fae such as Brownies (yes that’s the English word of their actual name and yes who do have a notorious sweet tooth.), Phouka, and the sidhe. The Sidhe were a stronger type of fey who were more gifted magically than other types and were essentially the nobles and royals of the fey courts in lore. They have been described to have shining skin and strangely colored eyes. I don’t know if I’m this movie the Ancients are supposed to be the sidhe or if the Fae coming into the human worlds are sidhe and the Ancients are the gods or if both types are sidhe but it doesn’t matter. Overall the Fae are a mischievous but for the most part not evil. They do like pulling tricks on humans and using magic to hide their appearance, make humans do things, etc. However what they consider mischievous is usually disaster for humans so for people who grew up with these stories they do warn of encountering the Fae. As long as you don’t fuck with Fae the tricks they will pull on you are generally harmless. But if you tuck with them or even invite them thinking you’ll get a magic wish you’ll be very sorry. There are ways to protect yourself from falling afoul of the Fae such as wearing or keeping certain herbs such as clover on your person. Cold iron is also effective in killing them as well though I can’t remember exactly why. Just think of it as silver for werewolves and vampires. There are a bunch of other elements to the Fae as well such as tells of a good or light court and bad dark court known as the Seelie and Unseelie courts respectively. I don’t know if this series ever touches on the lore of these two differing courts/races but most fiction based off it usually includes this dynamic so I’m sure it comes up in some capacity if not using those exact terms. In short I’m impressed of the amount of research and accuracy in the movie and assumedly the book it’s based off as well but movie is still shit and this comment really didn’t need to exist I’m just a nerdy black girl by the mythology of the Fae in general and thought it was interesting how spot on it was. Love your videos btw! You really inspire me in a lot of ways and I’m glad to see people who look like me talking about nerdy things in a fun way. 💕
imagine just being a completely normal human being, being mistaken as a fae, and then just getting stabbed by some random person whose like screaming at you that you're a fae. No one can convince me that this hasn't happened to someone.
... So I study folklore. Like, "currently getting a master's degree in the history of fairy folklore in the United Kingdom" study, and this movie gave me a migraine. SOME DEFINITIONS FROM ACTUAL FOLKLORE FOR YOUR, LIKE, DAY- Brownie- A fairy who's name comes from the scots-gaelic word "brunaidh" (pronounced a bit like "broo-nai", the dh is silent). They are physically very small, wizend little humanoids that do not have wings in any folklore that I am aware of. They are often very well dressed and live in barns and homes alongside humans. They are well known for their love of cleanliness and will reward or punish homeowners for their housekeeping habits and typically follow families down generations of home ownership. Very similar to the Domovoi from Russia, but less violent. Do not like to be repaid in clothes, but do like to be repaid for their work of protecting and keeping the house safe with milk or unsalted oatmeal. Fae- A broad-strokes term for creatures from the Otherworld. Can apply to everything from elves to kelpies to dragons. Super broad term. Otherworld- A concept primarily gleaned from Irish folklore that is also present in Welsh folklore. Similar concepts exist in Japanese myth (see the story of Urashima Taro, very sad story). The essence of it is, essentially, that there exists a world parallel to or overlapping with ours that we cannot see. From that other place many magical or holy figures come. In Irish folklore the Tuatha de Dannan (gods who are also fairies, it is complicated) live in the Otherworld, also known as Land Under Wave(Tir fo Thuinn), the Land of youth (Tir na nOg), Mag Mell (Plain of Delight), or the Isle of Apple Trees (Emain Ablach). It is not some horrific hell dimension, but a land of magic, myth, and yes, some danger. Lots of folklore has places that exist above or under our world, like an afterlife underneath our feet, or a heaven in the sky, but the Otherworld as a specific concept is of note because it is not IN our world, but connected to it via liminal places. You could wander through an area that connects this world and the Otherworld without wandering into it specifically. Like if county lines were super broad and vague. Halfling- Hobbit. No, really, a halfling is a hobbit. I could not stop giggling about this the ENTIRE TIME. This is a term from Dungeons and Dragons and Lord of the Rings. Whoever made this story googled "fantasy races" and did not bother to scroll down to actually, like, understand what the words meant. Iron- not a definition so much as an explanation of WTF is up with the iron... thing. In some folklore, it is said that cold iron, forged iron, can harm fairy flesh by burning it. The reason for this is debated amongst scholars and believers alike, and it is not a truth universally accepted nor present in all world folklore. The effects of the iron are also not universal. Some accounts say iron repels fairies and disgusts them, some say it literally burns their flesh, but there isn't a universal standard. Leannan Sidhe- I'm surprised this term didn't come up in the movie, because this is an actual semi-vampiric-kind-of type of fairie in Ireland! Leannan Sidhe basically eat the life of the people they attach to. Interestingly, they specifically attach to artists and poets, inspiring their victims to make the best art of their (short) lives. These creatures are, it is said, why artists die so young. Aos Sidhe (pronounced Aas Shee)- Translating to "people of the burial mounds", this is one of the most well-known words for fairies in Ireland. Creideamh Sidhe- A collection of practices and beliefs, or Fairy Faith, that surrounds the idea of appeasing, pleasing, and generally not pissing off the Good Neighbors/People of Peace/Aos Sidhe. It is still practiced in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England, and many of the isles surrounding those countries today. The Aos Sidhe can be very violent and even murderous when they want to be, and a lot of folklore is based on what happens when someone makes a mistake and ends up with a debilitating fairy curse on their head. For further reading on fairy folklore if you want to understand just how bad this movie is- The Fairy Faith in Celtic Countries, by Gerrards Cross At The Bottom Of The Garden, by Diane Purkiss Meeting the Other Crowd, by Eddie Lenihan Fairy Mythology, by Thomas Keightly A Bibliography of Irish Mythology and Folk Tradition, by Caoimhin O Danachair The Faerie Queens, by Sortia d'Este Gods and Goddesses of Ireland, by Morgan Daimler Magical Folk, by Simon Young BTW, none of my upset is aimed at Kennie, just at the filmmakers for doing less than no research. I are upset. Enjoy this youtube comment that comes with a bibliography!
The fae, the red headed female lead, the intricate black tattoos on the male lead. It’s giving “the mortal instruments “ fan fic. They just changed one or two things before turning it in. Lol
Right!!! Also Vampire Diaries like....ancients?? Compelling?? The special stake from a special tree?? K... i feel like they legitimately just tried to get away with ripping off 2 series at once
And the different levels of Fae thing with the ancients and the less powerful ones gave me A Court of Thorns and Roses vibes. The script writer read a bunch of YA and took the most generic parts of each story 😅
"Hey bisexuals!" Hi! "Do you refer to yourselves as swinging both ways?" I'm ~~early 20s, and have never heard another bi say that unironically. We'll say it as a joke, a la "I swing both ways. Violently, with a bat." Definitely more old school.
Yeah, if I’m not just straight up saying my orientation I usually say “I think everyone’s hot.” Swinging both ways is definitely more old school phrasing implying there’s only two genders, so I think it fell out of fashion
in the interest of giving personal input, hi im bisexual and when i wanna tell ppl im bisexual i just say "im bisexual". licherally never heard anyone irl pull the I Swing Both Ways :^) card
I have so much to say: - The supernatural plot wasn't bad though (with further development, it could've been good) - Them making Val (the bisexual black friend/sidekick) the snitch is low-key a hate crime. -Tink being comedic relief gives off "gay-best-friend" vibes. - "Sweetness" gave me traumatic flashbacks to 'cupcake' and 'are you lost, baby gorl?' 🤢🤮 - The... WIG... 👁️👄👁️ - Is Daddy David looking for a sugar baby? (asking for a friend) That's all I have to say. Love the Barbie hoodie 😍
"all of the halflings are adopted" "he saves her from getting hit by a moped" "supernatural romance" "demon halfling babies" iS THIS ANOTHER TWILIGHT FANFICTION?? PLEASE NO
Kennie: “HEY BISEXUALS!” Me: “You rang?” Kennie: “Do y’all use the phrase ‘swing both ways’?” Me: “Excellent question! Some of us do, especially ironically. For instance, I use the phrase, ‘I swing both ways. Violently. With an axe,’ in an ironic way. Also, bisexuality is defined as attraction to 2 OR MORE genders, so some bisexual people, like myself, only use ‘swing both ways’ ironically bc the ‘both’ feels limiting. If I were to use it unironically I would probably say ‘swing in multiple directions,’ in reference to myself. But that’s just me!” My roommate, from upstairs: “You talking to your imaginary UA-cam friend again?” Me: “HER NAME IS KENNIE AND SHES MY HONORARY COOL AUNTIE.”
My bi friend says it as a joke with our friends sooo.... Also there was this pride DnD shirt she got says "I swing both ways.... violently, with a sword" and it's one of her faves
@@samofsamnation7523 It's not his fault the show runners destroyed his character, he's completely different than who he was in the original series. But that's what I heard. I don't even keep up with that series cause I don't like inuyasha...
@@samofsamnation7523 No no…we not roasting Sesshomaru for the author’s misgivings. Sesshomaru and Kagura to me will be a thing more than any cannon shit the author practically PUSHED on to him with Rin (when Sango’s little brother was right there).
Yeah that’s something that’s been driving me nuts since the setting was established: why are the fae in New Orleans? In paranormal fictions New Orleans is home to vampires and inaccurate depictions of voodoo (sorry if i spelt that wrong). Why not set this in Ireland, or at least in the UK?
Kinda same with Norse mythology. People assume marvel is 100% accurate and it’s annoying for me who grew up with it. Or people credit marvel for Thor or Loki which is just... what??? It’s not horrible nor is it as bad as when people botch Ireland’s folklore, or natives traditions like spirit animals, but still annoying y’know?
As someone whose Irish parent often told them stories about the fae and fairies, seeing fae used as a substitute for vampires in erotica is definitely a feeling
Fun fact! Brownies are actual mythical creatures, that’s their legit name lmao. They’re Scottish household spirits that only come out at night to do chores around the house, though you have to leave some type of food or milk offering to them to keep them around. They also have a tendency to get offended at almost anything if they feel they are even slightly under appreciated.
I started binge watching your Passionflix reviews yesterday and last night I had a nightmare that I was trapped in one of those awful movies, hooking up with a moderately attractive insufferable man who didn't deserve me.
as a bisexual, hi, i’ve never said “i swing both ways”, i’m sure other bi people do, but the way the sentence is structured and acted, the context around it, and just the general vibe of the conversation makes me think there was not a single lgbt person in the room while that line was written. it’s just.. uh…. a little off
I think you hit the nail on the head with the scene, I got really weird vibes from the scene too and just oof. But I've never said "swing both ways" or heard a real person say it so I can not say much on real people using the phrase
Just FYI, the term “trauma bonding” doesn’t mean to bond over sharing stories about trauma, but rather it describes the emotional attachment that develops in abusive relationships through the cycle of abuse, devaluation, and positive reinforcement.
I mean as a bi person there's a dungeons and dragons t-shirt I want that says "I swing both ways violently with an axe" in the bi flag colours and it's super cringe but I love it.
I hate that I have to be the bearer of bad news, but the teenage werewolf boy in twilight is already the white version. They decided that pretty much all the members of the Quileute tribe could be accurately cast in the movie except the love interest, he had to be white.
The fact they had the black bi best friend say she would do the white straight girl in a film released during Pride month...that's gotta be some sort of hate crime
Clearly this movie doesn't know what consent is. I mean if a man broke into my window or pushed me up against a wall w/o my consent I wouldn't find that attractive.
Kennie ”The owner is Elon Musk’s sister!" Me: After learning what he named his child.. I can’t say I’m surprised lol. P.s.:The beautiful song Kennie was talking about is I need love by Pia
as a bi person, I feel media says "I swing both ways" to Hint at bisexuality bc they Cant Say The Dirty Word Itself like there's a whole thing of clearly bi-coded or outright bisexual characters that are never explicitly said to be bisexual it's just "swinging both ways" and it's really tiring and kinda a problem (which is why Rosa Diaz in b99 outright explicitly saying she's bisexual was kind of a big deal) also yea kennie you're right I don't think ppl generally say that also happy pride everyone
as a bi-romantic (asexual) person, i would NEVER say that if I was referring to my romantic attraction. like, have characters say “i put the bi in bitch” if they won’t say the ✨dirty word✨ (cowards). happy pride 🌈😗✌️
@@helenxar9405 like, probably dont say that when coming out, that’s just… something else, but as a joke after you’re out it could be funny to some people aka me with a broken sense of humor
Guys, I understand you're young and haven't really experienced older gay culture, but the words that you guys find archaic and borderline offensive actually came out of the gay community. Even the F word was thrown around affectionately and ironically the same way the N word is used within the B community.
Everytime someone refers to bisexuality as swinging both ways I can’t help but picture a group of people on one of those ball pendulums swinging back and forth, I’m sorry for subjecting you to that thought but what is done is done 🧎🏾♀️
"swinging both ways" is such a 90s straight people term and not only should no one ever use it again lmao but I hate how it lingered and permutated into the very modern, biphobic delineation that bisexual people only like "two genders" and pansexuals "like everyone regardless"
@@faracarib9737 Bi and pan are the "same thing", pretty much. Bi means being into two or more genders, pan means attraction regardless of gender. The difference is usually up to the individual to define!
It's also weirdly transphobic when people call bisexuality swinging both ways, I see a lot of descriptions of bisexuality that enforce cisnormativity and the gender binary while also treating bisexuality as some kid of promiscuous, scandalous thing....idk.
Only ever said it when I was younger and was still exploring my sexuality. I'm 21 now and and am so tired of that phrase and "half gay half straight". like naw I'm a whole ass identity not some half and half coffee creamer
The only time I’ve heard of “swinging both ways” that wasn’t weirdly awkward and probably a straight person was when people refer to bisexual Peter Parker. Also the whole “flirtatious and overtly sexual bisexual woman” (added layer of her being a woman of color) is so tired.
For the record, I'm bi and I think you're spot on. I hate the "I'm quirky and I swing both ways, I'd totally do you 🤪" crap lmao. It's reductive and annoying. Also, a lot of bi women avoid hitting on our straight friends because we know what it's like to have men we're not interested in hit on us and hate the idea of making other women uncomfortable like that 🤦♀️
P.S. Also "swinging both ways" kinda ignores gender non-conforming people even though plenty of bi folks are open to people outside of the gender binary, too. It means attraction to 2 or more genders, not just men & women 💜
Yup. And I genuinely don't know if Cassandra Clare's books were Draco/Ginny fanfiction or Ron/Ginny fanfiction because she wrote a fic of Ron and Ginny banging to make Harry and Hermione jealous and it was titled Mortal Instruments.
@@emtims1670 Yeah, I watched Shadowhunters when it aired and I'd heard about Cassie Clare before(mostly about the whole, "Draco in leather pants" thing) but not much. So I researched as much as possible on the books and the author and on fanlore, it talks about the fic. The fic literally had Harry and Hermione date briefly over the summer before some year at Hogwarts. And Ron and Ginny begin sleeping together as a result? Until Harry and Hermione break up and Ginny ends things but Ron is obsessed with her now. It's all very weird. I never read it and she took it off the website it was on years ago, apparently.

As a fan of the Fae, I can say that this movie has insulted them as much as it has your eyes! A brownie is actually a small household spirit, which will do chores and be helpful in exchange for food and milk. It's not a slur for gay men, or homophobic in any way that I can think of. Just a poor use of an actual bit of Fae folklore!
I always thought the pookahs were the ones who'd help around the house if you leave them some milk, and brownies were more like rabid pranksters. Guess I really need to brush up on my Celtic mythology...
...I just realized the film Willow shaped my misconception about brownies. Additionally, I once read a story about a pookah in the form of a donkey who cleaned one family's kitchen every night for weeks until they got cocky/entitled and neglected to leave it some milk. Maybe that story was actually about a brownie spirit but the author used the wrong name? In any case, your comment has really prompted me to use more discernment when studying my myths, and I thank you for that!
@@asenseofyarning5614 oh, no, it's lovely to know I helped! Now, brownies are potential pranksters, actually, but generally only if they feel they've been mistreated. They can be very vengeful. But kept happy with offerings, a brownie is typically helpful and harmless. The pookah are more mischievous, and are shapeshifters. They may pull tricks simular to the Kelpie, and take the form of a horse that will get you onto it's back, run around leaping fences and doing dangerous things, before dropping you off. They can speak, and will talk with humans for hours, even telling them prophecies, before disappearing so that the human thinks they were imagining things. Pookah are more rabid prankster than brownie, and actually thought to be bad luck. Edit: I should mention that there are some "good" pookah. The story you read may have meant what it said, but simply been referring to one of those ones!
It's pretty common in the fantasy genre for lesser monsters to be able to get through barriers that more powerful ones can't. The way I've always thought of it is like a fence around a pasture will keep in a cow but not a rat
Yeah exactly! Magical barriers tend to be more like filters, not solid walls. Things that are completely solid and thus easier for a strong being to get through, are usually called shields I think
Yes I was thinking that too. Like it does make sense that the gates would be strong enough to let lesser one's through but the most powerful ones can't go through cus it can hold them or something
bisexual here: the only time i have ever referred to myself as "swinging both ways" is when im laughing while listening to the classic song by herman's hermits this door swings both ways. but yes it's an archaic term generally speaking lmao
I'm a lesbian so I have been around the LGBT community quite a bit. The only time I've ever heard "going both ways" it was traditionally used as a derogatory term or as a description for my dog's eyes since they be all over the place
No it's the fact the entire movie built up to the apocalypse for them to do no preparation and solve it with like no issue like sorry what were we stressed about again??
As a bisexual i've never said "i swing both ways". It was a term used when bisexuality was just barely tolerated, and it being used in a movie made so recently is appalling. Also, the term brownie is actually the name for a subset of fae, they're small creatures who can be companions and help in different ways, but they definitely wouldn't just,,,live with a person. They have no need to

As a bisexual, I get what you were saying about the archaic sound of the term "swinging both ways". I honestly havent said that to describe my sexuality nor have i heard other bisexuals use that. Ive only ever heard it in movies or read it in crappy novels but thats just me. That being said, i get tired of the trope of the bisexual being hyper sexual and/or being annoyingly over flirtatious.
as a bisexual i've only ever said the swing thing sarcastically 😭✋🏻
Ehhh...i think its fine cuz they arent really stereotypes..like if i think bisexual i think nothing like no stereotypes...so ig its fine noones being influenced by tropes like that.
I hear the term used more by straight girls so they seem more interesting to guys like this one girl who said she swing both ways but it was obvious that she only liked guys and would try to kiss other girls and would post things like "Wifey🤭😘💞✨".
as a bi person on the asexual spectrum, I do find the oversexualisation of our attraction to be quite tiering
Same I heard that and almost threw up
As the straight friend in a similar scenario, never had to yell my sexuality to friends, so yeah
Yeah, anyone who has to declare that they're straight to friends is super insecure
As a bisexual I can confirm this
Right? I'm pan while my bff is straight and we constantly call each other "baby" and "love". And we act like distraught lovers when we cant hangout. Well, I call all my close friends "love" so idk t

“Swinging both ways” feels like what straight people call bisexuals
it is 🙈
It used to be the cool way to call yourself bisexual.

🧡
Based on your research i feel like you could write a better Fae book that was still accurate but also wasn't shit lol
I love your comment, I was wondering if anyone would catch that "Brownies" are real fairies haha
Damn. If you ever drop a book on fae, let me know, I’ll read it.
If you ever write a book about Faes and bring the mythology to life, I'll happily be your editor. Much love from a decent, aspiring writer!

... So I study folklore. Like, "currently getting a master's degree in the history of fairy folklore in the United Kingdom" study, and this movie gave me a migraine.
SOME DEFINITIONS FROM ACTUAL FOLKLORE FOR YOUR, LIKE, DAY-
Brownie- A fairy who's name comes from the scots-gaelic word "brunaidh" (pronounced a bit like "broo-nai", the dh is silent).

My bi friend says it as a joke with our friends sooo.... Also there was this pride DnD shirt she got says "I swing both ways.... violently, with a sword" and it's one of her faves
Don’t disrespect Sesshomaru with that being’s horrible wig 😂😂😂😂😂
I mean it’s canon that Sesshomaru ends up with Rin so I’m just letting the internet roast the groomer at any chance they get. 🤷♀️
@@samofsamnation7523 It's not his fault the show runners destroyed his character, he's completely different than who he was in the original series. But that's what I heard. I don't even keep up with that series cause I don't like inuyasha...

Seriously, Kennie has such a pretty voice. Those "wiiIIIIIIGGGG" made me both laugh and get impressed.
Ireland and Northern Ireland must be tired of the disrespect of their folklore.
They should really be getting royalties!
I’m tired for them
As someone whose Irish parent often told them stories about the fae and fairies, seeing fae used as a substitute for vampires in erotica is definitely a feeling
This looks like a bad Shadowhunters fan fic rip-off
I’m glad you said it 😂😂
I was just thinking that!!! Lmaoo
Is a richelle mead fanfic rip-off, is reaally alike her series, but much worse
Yes! It’s like Shadowhunters mixed with Lost Girl, with a dash of UnderWorld
Shadowhunters was a bad shadowhunters fanfic ripoff- pretend it was a fever dream

a “bundle of kickass hotness” is probably the worst line i’ve ever heard in my entire life… WHO THOUGHT OF THIS???
Had to pause the video because I felt so cringe 😭😭😭😭
This was unfortunatly written in book as well. And most of them are like that. And for some reason this autor is super popular.
My organs dried up hearing this.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂💀🥴🥴🥴🙈🙉🤣😭
I'll raise you "are you lost baby girl?"
Wait I love that! I'd happily leave snacks out for some spirits to come and clean up for me lol
That’s actually so cute. I really like reading tidbits of this kind of mythology, I should probably actually look into it sometime
As a pansexual, I just think it’s really offensive if nothing else
Just FYI, the term “trauma bonding” doesn’t mean to bond over sharing stories about trauma, but rather it describes the emotional attachment that develops in abusive relationships through the cycle of abuse, devaluation, and positive reinforcement.
Damn forreal? What is bonding over sharing stories of trauma called then?
@@Kaitirich good question actually but op is right. Would love to know too
@@Kaitirich I imagine it has a double meaning and can mean both
@@Kaitirich I don’t know that there’s a specific term. I would just say “they bond over sharing stories about their trauma” lol
Always thought it meant sharing traumatic stories with the purpose of manipulating someone to feel closer
I mean as a bi person there's a dungeons and dragons t-shirt I want that says "I swing both ways violently with an axe" in the bi flag colours and it's super cringe but I love it.
The main """hearthrob""" guy in the movie looks like a white version of everyone's favourite 25 year old teenage werewolf boy (Jacob from Twilight)
I hate that I have to be the bearer of bad news, but the teenage werewolf boy in twilight is already the white version. They decided that pretty much all the members of the Quileute tribe could be accurately cast in the movie except the love interest, he had to be white.
Taylor Lautner was actually only sixteen filming the first movie, and 17 filming new moon (ew). They really sexualized this teenager.
He’s already the white version

The "I like boys." part of that was so horrifying godDAMN
as a bi person, I feel media says "I swing both ways" to Hint at bisexuality bc they Cant Say The Dirty Word Itself like there's a whole thing of clearly bi-coded or outright bisexual characters that are never explicitly said to be bisexual it's just "swinging both ways" and it's really tiring and kinda a problem (which is why Rosa Diaz in b99 outright explicitly saying she's bisexual was kind of a big deal) also yea kennie you're right I don't think ppl generally say that also happy pride everyone
as a bi-romantic (asexual) person, i would NEVER say that if I was referring to my romantic attraction. like, have characters say “i put the bi in bitch” if they won’t say the ✨dirty word✨ (cowards). happy pride 🌈😗✌️

Yes oml THIS COMMENT
YES!!!!!!
Wait I don't understand don't bi people only like two genders I am confusion someone help me 😭
@@faracarib9737 Bi and pan are the "same thing", pretty much.
As a bisexual gal in my 30s, I have never said “ I swing both ways” lol
I did when I was 12 I'm 30 now 😂 only because this was a phrase used by straight people back then to describe me. So I just went with it.
Exactly. I classify as bi/Pan and in my 30’s. Never in my life did I utter those words. It’s so cringe. Always has been.
Same girl same
Only ever said it when I was younger and was still exploring my sexuality. I'm 21 now and and am so tired of that phrase and "half gay half straight". like naw I'm a whole ass identity not some half and half coffee creamer
God, I just relished that this movie and arguably all of Passionflix’s movies are like what Disney channel or Nickelodeon makes but for adults
The only time I’ve heard of “swinging both ways” that wasn’t weirdly awkward and probably a straight person was when people refer to bisexual Peter Parker. Also the whole “flirtatious and overtly sexual bisexual woman” (added layer of her being a woman of color) is so tired.
And added layer of her being a traitor
Not that I blame her I think the fae seemed better anyway
Me: spacing out
Kennie: "Sesshomaru"
Me: ears perk up
I woke all the way up. Then saw that wig and was like 'nah. Sesshoumaru wouldn't be caught dead in that.'

NOOOOOO my childhood got disrespected :(
From the time Kennie mentioned halflings I rolled my eyes so hard I nearly knocked myself out. Immediately knew where this entire thing was going.
It means attraction to 2 or more genders, not just men & women 💜
this is high level shadowhunters fanfic, a series thats already fanfiction
Yup. And I genuinely don't know if Cassandra Clare's books were Draco/Ginny fanfiction or Ron/Ginny fanfiction because she wrote a fic of Ron and Ginny banging to make Harry and Hermione jealous and it was titled Mortal Instruments.
@@heatherduke5410 LOL, good lord. I had no idea this was the Shadowhunter's lore. Then again I watched that show on mute.
I have watched this review about four times now, and I keep coming back specifically for 13:42-14:03.

This is interesting to learn. In the Sookie Stackhouse Series (True Blood), they were very dangerous and violent. What happened?!
The implication that Tink is a brownie and therefor has a bogart form terrifies me
