The best thing about Simon being kidnapped was that in the books, they didn't even mean to. Simon got turned into a rat at a party and because the vampires can turn into bats and rats, they just. Assumed it was one of them. And scooped him up. Like "wtf do you MEAN this isn't Brad?!"
Dude this change pisses me off so fucking much cause the entire premise of the books is very obviously an allegory for racism like its not subtle so to change it from a misunderstanding to explict evil doing is the equivalent of them siding w the racists
In the books, valentine raised Jace as a kid pretending to be Michael Wayland. When Jace sees Valentine, he recognizes him as his father. Since it was already revealed that Valentine was Clary’s dad, they think they’re siblings. Valentine simply never corrected this for whatever reason I don’t remember. Come to find out, Clary does have a brother named Jonathan, and Jace is not even a Wayland. He’s a Herondale. Valentine was raising both Jace and Jonathan (Clary’s actual brother also called Sebastian) at the same time. Except Valentine had experimented with demon blood on Sebastian and angel blood on Jace. So there was this whole arc with Jace where he was dark and brooding because he thought he had demon blood. Supper annoying and confusing. Totally forgot about once it’s revealed he’s neither a Morgenstern nor a Wayland but a Herondale.
When we get to the point where we have to explain how it’s not technically incest… we have already gone too far teenage me was fighting battles she shouldn’t have fought 😩
Fun fact: this was originally a Harry Potter fanfic that Cassandra Clare wrote, but it popped off so much so that she changed the names and shit in it and called it a day
@@biazacha I don’t like the idea of incest on a good day, but the fact that she took TWO AMAZING CHARACTERS and turned it into utter FILTHY SMUT GARBAGE is infuriating.
Magnus Bane is like an accidental diamond trapped in this intellectual property. He's too good for the franchise, for Cassy Clare's brain, and for this world. You know?
the trope you’re talking about, kennie, when magical black folks help out white protagonists is real and it’s called the magical negro, look it up. it’s extremely prevalent and it’s not a mistake you’re noticing it, just like the mammy stereotype. it’s a more subtle but certainly not any less racist archetype
Agreed! The TVD universe is one of the easier versions to spot, especially during The Originals (a spinoff), where there are a group of witches who are usually black and it is set in New Orleans.
The setting sometimes has it make sense in a vacuum but if we non-White people got all these witches, "voodoo" priests, wise sages, werewolves, etc in US movies...where our movies at then?! :/ Not saying I want a bad movie about African supernatural folklore but it'd be nice to be more than a guide for an oblivious silly White girl for once.
The incest stuff is actually used *twice* - jayce and her is not a thing but her actual real brother does try to rape her and it's all awful. Then after Cassandra Clare wrote another book about two people who love eachother who are *magical siblings but not real siblings*, as well as a whole other bunch of weird incest-flavoured shit. kill me-
There was also Alec being in love with Jace who was his adopted brother. lol. Also, I think that in the book, he physically attacks and threatens Clary because she brings up his feelings for Jace???
Yh but you're forgetting jace actually remembers valentine raising him and then it was revealed that clary is also his daughter. I'm pretty sure at that point it would have been certain
@@juliusweiss5447 They didn't actually have any reason to doubt that it was true, though. Jace legit remembers being raised by Valentine, and being treated as Valentine's son. (He just didn't know that Valentine was Valentine...because they were legit living as Mr. Wayland and son; and Valentine and son were believed to have died in a fire.) And Clary knows that her mom was definitely married to Valentine and did indeed have a son before Clary was born. And learning that Valentine was in fact alive[ and was indeed the only man Jace ever actually knew as his father], there was no reason to believe that Clary's brother was not also alive, or not-Jace. Until later on.
Ok so I have this random Cassie Clare knowledge and Ive decided it should be everybody's problem. So, Clary in the books is an avid manga reader and Cassie namedrops this one series called Angel Sanctuary quite a few times. To put it simply, the manga is about the love between our main dude and his sister who are the reincarnations of archangels or something. And it ends with our main dude defeating God with the power of incest (and Lucifer) and getting his happily ever after with his sister. Make of that what you will-
That one time in the books where Clary’s legit brother (who was not Jace) had Jace under a spell, gave Clary Stockholm Syndrome and then suggested that the three of them have a polyamorous relationship. I read this when I was, what, thirteen? I remember people adamantly defending this book series, and with the “Are we siblings, are we not”was awkward enough since it wasn’t clarified at first, but when we got to that point I just had to put the series down and walk away.
Sebastian was a fever dream, like I have no idea how any editor greenlit that shit… he talking about how his sister is freaky in bed and he wasn’t expecting it like ??? teenager me made several choices…
That scene w/ Sebastian (Clary’s real bro) was what made me hate him but it was hella odd how she was grossed out by the suggestion while she was fine w/ Jace. Idk teen me loved this series more than I should 😂 (also spoilers but them redeeming him at the end w/ him suddenly “turning good” before he died really really made me upset)
"The Magical Negro" trope, coined by Spike Lee is what you were describing. Like you said, it's basically a trope used in supernatural or fantasy films where magic or otherwise power Black characters are created for one purpose: To serve the yt characters and basically have no storyline, except for always being there when the yt characters need them.
@@onthemetro410 (I'm not looking it up because I don't want it in my search history but) I'm pretty sure it was Ron/Ginny but later changed to Draco/Ginny because people weren't into the incest surprisingly enough.
I heard she was also a plagiarist and stole fan fic/posed it as her own and then also cyberbullied people 💀💀 Shes exploded all over YA but she in general just gives me bad vibes and I avoid at all costs.
I read the OG Harry Potter fiction, and lolol I'm still so amused that she kept the Harry Potter descriptions (and obviously edited out the plagiarism). Clary is Ginny. Simon is Harry. Jace is Draco.
So that's where Rainbow Rowell got the first name for Simon Snow (The main character of a book about wizards that her fictional main character writes fanfiction about)
As someone who is old enough to remember Cassandra Clare in her fandom days with the plagiarism, her meanness, her involvement in the miss scribe drama and just the toxic culture around the harry potter shipping wars at the time, I can say it was always very difficult for me to separate the book from my experiences with her. So I intentionally didn't read the book as I thought I would be too biased to be fair. But I watched this movie when it came out and felt compelled to read the book to see if it was like I expected it to be. It was. Safe to say I wasn't missing out by not reading it all them years edit: Also will say its absolutely hilarious that CC is bringing out another shadowhunter series called Wicked
Let me tell you… I read this book series first, I will never forgive Clare for making me go through a love story WITH incest. I never understood why she did that, UNTIL I watched a UA-cam video “when posting goes wrong” and told the story of msscribe drama and my third eye was forcibly opened with a crowbar as I realized the reason for the incest was because she used to write incest Harry Potter fanfic.
I love that she calls the incest plot twist a surprise. Girl this is a RonxGinny fanfiction mixed with a DracoxGinny fanfiction. Also RIP Godfrey Gao! Gone to Soon and to damn good for this movie. Fine too
What I think is even crazier is that the guy who played Jace in the movie (Jamie Campbell Bower) dated and got engaged to Bonnie Wright (THE GIRL WHO PLAYED GINNY IN FUCKING HARRY POTTER)
I'm sure enough people have explained to you at this point that Cassandra Clare is known in fandom spaces for her incest fanfiction, but in case they haven't-- Cassandra Clare is known in fandom spaces for her incest fanfiction. I haven't read the books, but I'm not sure she needed a *reason* to make that a Thing
was just about to bring this up. she’s also known for doxxing, scamming, bullying, and swarming her detractors with her fans. idk if cassie has any siblings, but someone may need to look into that
I've always known that Cassandra Clare was infamous for the incestuous themes in her books, but she wrote incest fanfiction too??? Damn, that's double jeopardy!
Yes!! I remember loving the beautiful creatures book and being disappointed in the movie but maybe if i reread and rewatched id have different thoughts
“You’ve got your ring set to W for wambo when it should be M for mini” 🤣😭💀 Spoilers for ppl that haven’t read but in case someone wants to know: Valentine lied to Jace about being his father as this added plot twist. Clary’s brother and father allegedly died in a fire but it was actually someone else and I think Valentine killed Jace’s real father. And this was all to hide the fact that Clary’s real brother was still alive. And he (the brother) is a twisted little fuck!! I can’t remember his name but I’m like 80% sure he kissed Clary knowing DAMN WELL that they were related!!
When you said "My Vampire Knight Trauma" I screamed because fcking SAME! And even without knowing the movie/book I knew exactly what would happen as the twist just based on that
Yes! It was so validating when she said that. I'm glad I'm not the only one who found the Vampire Knight love plot creepy. Everyone seems to be in to it 😭
@@lantialily8696 yup, I was really into Vampire Knight for a while. **Spoiler alert for Vampire Knight, even though most of us know, lol** The love triangle between Zero, Yuki and Kaname was really well written...until they revealed Kaname and Yuki were siblings. After that revelation, I remember thinking at first that this was an excellent love triangle, since Yuki had been pining for Kaname for so long, and Zero pining for Yuki but feeling unworthy of her because of him being a vampire. The tables were now fully turned with Kaname (seemingly) being forever out of Yuki's grasp due to being her brother, and Zero possibly also being out of her grasp by being absolutely disgusted by learning she had been what he most despised all along. I was so excited to see what would happen next...until they made it clear that them being siblings wasn't an obstacle at all. Ugggh! Sorry for the long comment, but I had to say something since Kennie brought Vampire Knight up, lol
@@Pepperjack1986 I completely agree with all u've said lmaoo *sigh* I read the manga up until maybe the 16 or 20th volume, whichever one had revealed their relation....I had just abt given up on it , but the last nail in the coffin was when they had kissed. I was googling all I could if I had misunderstood smth or like the English translation was wrong...pretty sure they have kids or at least get married and other stuuuf tho😭
@@non_name actually I read further into it but not till finale. Apparently her actual blood brother kaname was killed as a child and this current kaname is their ancestor in a coffin who was brought back to life and raised a yuki's parents' child. Another fun fact that I remember. Yuki's parents are also siblings and the villain is also their sibling but killed the parents cuz his sister(yuki's mom) chose to be with his brother (yuki's dad). Incest is very common theme for vampires of VK. Anyways the astonishing thing is even after 10 yrs all these info live in my mind rent free 🙃
I only read the first three books way back in middle school/early high school, but the incest thing was so funny, because I remember it being pretty one sided. Clary was trying to let go and move on, but Jace spent the whole book and a half where he thought they were related insisting that they could just run away somewhere that no one knew that. Then you find out that they weren't related, but Valentine had abducted Jace and named him after Clary's actual secret brother, who's been disguised as someone else's brother, BUT her secret brother also wants to bone her seemingly JUST to take her away from Jace, with whom he feels he has a rivalry??? Honestly, these books were pure soap opera trash and I'm always a little tempted to go back to them, just for that. I also distinctly remember Izzy being jealous of Clary for being 'pixie-like', because Izzy sees herself as too tall and willowy, and at some point gives Clary one of her tank tops to wear as a dress. Honestly, finding out these books were based on Cassandra Clare's plagiarized Harry Potter fanfics wasn't even supersizing. (I say this as a prolific fanfiction reader: some of it is scarring.)
Cassandra Clare started her career as a Harry Potter fan fiction writer. The Mortal Instuments was LITERALLY the title of the fanfic that she wrote about an incestuous relationship between Ron & Ginny...
I had a love-hate relationship with the book series, it's so bad but so bad it's good in a way??? Standouts for me were all the descriptive lines basically calling Jace gold "His golden skin/eyes/hair sparkled in the light" e.t.c. and every straight guy finding Clary so endearing (even her half-brother! Which is a whole other can of worms) when she has the personality of a soggy bread and cardboard hybrid.
@@Liezshae I kind of hated her at the begin of the books but can blame her to much she was just a teenager that was lie for her whole life and had some of her memories hidden. It took a while for her character development but it was nice to see it on the books
@@ymi0613 of course, she did grow a lot over time but first book wise, she was kinda annoying. I started appreciating her a bit more during the 3rd book when she got a better understanding of the truth. Before that I really found her off putting. I think her stubbornness irritated me sometimes to the point where she looked dumb.
What is also later explained in the books, is that Clary (due to her having more angel blood than other shadowhunters since her father experimented on her when she was still in her mother's womb) has the ability to create and recall ancient runes. The reason why her ability is so special is because her runes are not written in the Gray Book, which has all the runes that were believed to be the only ones the shadowhunters were able to use. So, she is only able to stop the temporary flow of time not because that is her power specifically but due to her creating her own runes that enable her so. In addition to that Jace also has some more special abilities because just like Clary he has more angel blood than the others but I don't remember to be honest
Jace was just more agile, stronger, had better reflexes, better resistance, etc. For example when in the book he jumped from the institutes roof, he landed perfectly without a scratch due to his enhanced abilities
Right, Jace was experimented on by Valentine because Valentine killed his father and mother then cut jace out of the womb and gave him angel blood. Or something like that, it has been a long time since I read it. It was Sebastian that was mixed the demon blood I think.
I'mma be honest the black witch thing just feels like an extension of like the wise black women thing I see in a lot of movies. It's the same thing just ✨magical✨. I could be reaching tho🤷🏿♂️
It's the literal "magical negro" trope. They do this to blk people but usually it's blk people who don't have actual supernatural powers but are there solely to lead the white protagonist with wisdom and some sort of parental guidance. Other POC's have this trope too ,but it's rampant in white stories that feature a blk character.
I remember reading the part where they revealed clary and jace were “siblings” in class. Literally had a whole shut the book moment and asked myself what led me to this. I guess my face was so drastic cause my friend was like “ooooh is it a sad ending”
The moment that made me abandon the series was in the fifth book after Jace was possessed or... whatever happened in that book and Clary spent 50 pages sobbing her eyes out because she didn't have her man to make her decisions for her. Clary always annoyed me because she fell into the "bland YA protagonist who willingly gives up all autonomy to dark broody bad boy BF" trope which is horrifyingly prolific in YA. I think it's telling that THAT is what annoyed me more than the incest BS. lordy my priorities were skewed at 14!
Talking about Bonnie in TVD: I will never not be pressed about how her story with Damon ended...they should have gotten married and lived a very long and happy life together and then, when she died of natural causes at a very old age, then Elena could have come back to their realm and gotten back together with Damon. God knows Bonnie deserved a happy ending more than anyone on that show and her and Damon had the best enemies to friends to lovers dynamics in the whole story
I never really shipped them because I never thought of it until now but now I think that this would’ve been a good idea. They would absolutely fit the enemies to lovers trope and that is one of my favorite tropes.
When Kennie was talking about how she didn’t care at all about the people in TMI’s love triangle I immediately thought of The Infernal Devices, which is the prequel series to TMI that has a MUCH better love triangle and just,,, love story in general. But it doesn’t get nearly the amount of attention that The Mortal Instruments does which kinda sucks since I think people would like it a lot more
I’m not gonna lie all of the prequel/sequel spin-offs of mortal instruments are immensely better love story wise and character/plot wise like even the newest one has this interesting fake marriage/unrequited love plot that’s really well done and they actually spent time trying to build the supporting characters 😭
Yes! I feel like the characters were much better and I honestly wish it could've been longer than just a trilogy. Like I love the characters, the ships, the time period, the location, like to me it was just all *chefs kiss*
The Mortal Instruments/Cassie Clare herself have an insane backstory that I feel like people on YT outside of Booktube (and even then not extensively) don't really talk about enough? It's definitely well worth a look into if you're bored one of these days. The early 2000s Harry Potter fandom, especially in the fanfic realm, was absolutely insane. AlSO: speaking of 2000s paranormal flashes in the pan: when are you doing Fallen?
Oh yeah ... I mean, I'm from the yahoo group/LJ times, it was WIDEDLY known back then that CC was a scumbag, the fact that that isn't known anymore today is aggrevating af to me.
Eldena Doubleca5t did a video as part of her When Posting Goes Wrong series that goes into part of the Cassandra Clare backstory. It’s not primarily about her but she appears a lot in the video. The way these grown ass people were behaving over Harry Potter was wild! m.ua-cam.com/video/K_DZd78WLQY/v-deo.html
Honestly a lot of people on Booktube don't address it at all. Cassandra Clare is so problematic but all the booktubers I've seen still praise her like the holy jesus of YA 🙄
I have a chronic illness, which sometimes means several days in bed doing nothing. Your videos go a long way in making the time bearable, and I thank you for the continuing laughs🙃

I read this series in middle school and dropped it at the "suggested" incest part. I distinctly remember that part and being way too disgusted about how Clary and Jace didn't really seem to care. Here i am, 22 and just now finding out that plot was a lie lol
I had to spoil myself after reading the first book and getting to the level. Finding out it wasn't real helped but I didn't read the rest of the series because of that.
Happened the same but thanks to tumblr quickly learnt it wasnt true, still didnt wanted go finish the series. Even thou i bought the 3 books in advance...
godfrey and robert were FAR too good for this movie. Btw we need to start a vampire knight support group cause matsuri hino had us in the TRENCHES, Also the black magical person whose sole purpose is to support the white lead is a really interesting but stupid trope called "the magical negro" that originates in the 80s?? I think! like the gay best friend.
GIRL, I bought so many of the books before I found out what matsuri had instore for us! I still have a bunch of them because I spent so much money and all I got outta of it was a fan book with a stupid fan card bruh😭😭🤣
@@ThexDynastxQueen bruh, it's incest GALORE with a plot so convoluted idk how I understood any of it. So the main girls mom(Juri) was in a love triangle with her BIOLOGICAL brothers Rido and Haruka and she ended up choosing Haruka. Years later the daughter(Yuki) falls for her "not known at the time" brother kaname, and another dude named Zero who she grew up with. We then find out that her uncle Rido killed her brother(kaname 2.0) and replaced his soul with their family ancestor(kaname 1.0), who was apart of the original Kurans(her family line), for power. THEN after a lot of mellow drama she ends up with Zero because kaname 1.0 was being dramatic and sacrificed himself, and left her alone with their kid. A 1000 years later after having another kid with Zero, he dies, and Yuki takes her children to "Kaname's" comatose body(a whole other story) to wake him up. She does this by sacrificing herself and "Kaname" wakes up as a human with no recollection of any of the past ish he did and is left with Yuki's two kids. Like what in the Freudian Fuckery was vampire knight???? Bruh, that's her brothers body with her ancestor inside it that she slept with MULTIPLE TIMES. To this day there are still people saying "they ain't related", BITCH YES THEY ARE!!!
When i tell you that these books literally traumatized me. She had me full on shipping them and then reveals they were siblings. It was honestly horrible 😂😭 The entire second book was literally the most confusing thing I’d ever read. Thank god they revealed by the third book that they weren’t siblings. Haven’t read the books in ages but I def loved them back in the day 😭
Ugh, remembering all the horrible outfit choices in this movie. It's goth fashion which is fine, but the bad kind where you can tell it's only about fetishizing white, skinny, want to be edgy, brooding emo kids. I don't get why the main actors features had to look so boney and sunken in. Not to mention that the bad guys fashion was also the same? Like what? Did they really need to *yassify* Valentine like that? He does not look like he's in the age range to be their father.
As a huge fan of the series when I was younger, I remember watching the movie and getting so mad. The twist that they’re no siblings came during book three, and it was a huge twist. Obviously the whole incest plot was extremely Fucking uncomfortable, even for me who loved the series otherwise. Still tho, to watch that plot twist happen at the end of the FIRST movie made me so mad. Lol I think a part of me was thinking “I had to spend over a book thinking these bland slices of bread were siblings, others need to suffer the way I did”. But outside of that spoiler, the movie itself was just bland.
Yes I 100% percent agree... The mortal instruments should be recreated with a better team and more flushed out movies... I agree the incest-baiting was rather jarring for a 14 yr old gay fan boy, however once I got passed that I read the book for the excellent fantasy and for the Alec and Magnus... Cuz that's luvvv
In the film writer's defense....imagine them not revealing the twist at the end of the movie. Those who hadn't read the books would have been left with....that.
I definitely feel like it was in order for them to have a better chance at getting a second movie. Sure, the books got away with it, but I think the movies would have gotten even worse reviews if it just left the full-on incest cliff-hanger. I agree though, the twist that they were siblings and then the twist that they weren't?? Absolutely insane, I lost my mind.
This movie suffered from what I like to call “Percy Jackson syndrome.” I’m like 75% sure that Cassandra Clare had little to no input with what the directors and producers did to her story; like Rick Riordan had no input over the PJ films. (To be fair, the Percy Jackson books are MUCH better written than Mortal Instruments in my opinion, but the point still stands). The studio was pretty much just concerned about making money, so they kept vaguely the same story beats with NONE of the nuance (not that there was a whole lot of that in TMI to begin with, but there was some and the dialogue in the books was at least passable) or character development or…character, really. They also attempted to shove some things that happen in later books into the first movie WHILE cutting a lot of things that happen in the first book, much like the Sea of Monsters film. Though in Sea of Monsters they did it because they KNEW they weren’t getting any more movies and they wanted to wrap up the entire series in the second installment, while in this movie they really seemed to think that they were gonna get at least one more. As a result, this movie ends up feeling very…generic, like a washed-out version of the book. Even with some good actors in there (Robert Sheehan is a FANTASTIC actor, but just like Logan Lerman in Percy Jackson no amount of acting chops can make up for terrible writing) it just doesn’t manage to make up the difference. Movies like this are why I’m thankful they never adapted series like PC Cast’s House of Night (which I attempted to reread as an actual adult recently and are god awful, Zoe Redbird is one of the worst YA protagonists I have EVER had the misfortune of reading, and one of my guilty pleasure reads is the fucking SELECTION series) or Melissa de la Cruz’s Blue Bloods into films. Sadly, if books are written for a teenage audience, most of the time a studio will just assume kids are stupid and don’t know what good media is and phone it in to make a quick buck.
I'm really sorry to come and burst your bubble of thankfulness with the universe, but Kristin Cast just confirmed last week that a House of Night tv show is in the works lol They have an executive producer already.
yeah but wasn't cassandra clare heavily involved in Shadowhunters? that still SUCKED. i'm actually one of the few people that actually enjoys this movie because at least the actors in this one didn't sound like they were performing in a middle school production of the birth of jesus unlike in the show lmao
Agreed, Its the same for animated shows like Avatar the Last Air Bender. The minute I heard they were going to make a movie about it I was like "Its gonna be shit" lol. Also, I'm still so salty about the percy jackson movie. And that they actually made a book version of the movie. My brother said he was reading the first book and I got excited and was going over my favorite moments to which he then replied to me, "That didn't happen". I figured out that he was reading a movie version of the first percy jackson film, told him that, and showed him the real version of the book. I'm still salty about it lol.
@@dragonflyyxy oh god NOOO, hopefully they take out all the bits of Zoey being absolutely horrible to other girls in her mind and with her squad, bc I don't think constantly calling people "hoes" is gonna fly like it did when the books were first coming out.
they´ve been working on a series for a few years but the company that bought the rights the first time ended up not doing anything with it so they had to wait until the contract was over and now they´re working on it again. I just hope to god they´re gonna fix a bunch of problematic things because the lore as far as I got was pretty cool. but the way everyone spoke about each other, I started re-reading last year and my god I guess I blocked that out? When Alec (dark, angry brooding side character) popped up I kept waiting for Kennie to realize that that's Kevin Zegers who played the main character Josh in the classic Air Bud films.
Someone pointed out that Valentine making Jace think they were siblings was an abuse tactic. He had already drilled into Jace that he was unworthy of love and that he made everything worse. By making Jace think he had fallen in love with his sister, he was just reinforcing these beliefs and trying to get Jace to realign himself with Valentine because of his own self-hatred. So the whole thing was never about incest but abuse at the hands of a parental figure.
That might be meaningful if Cassandra Claire hadn't written incest as a plot point repeatedly in her books & wrote incest kink fanfiction before becoming a published author
you see i understand it… but were there NO other way of reinforcing the belief of being unworthy and unlovable than bringing incest to the table? i feel like we could’ve done so many other things BUT that💀💀
@@cam4636 Oh, I know. I am just pointing out something I thought made some sense as for the reason to lie. The lie itself is fucking weird and I don't get it. Also, I didn't know that it is/was a recurring theme in the writing. I find it very disturbing 🧐
@@dinofashionicon8364 Wholehearted agree. There are plenty of non disturbing ways to do so. But, another reply made me aware that incest is a recurring subject in her writing, which is weird but maybe she has a kink? I hope she is a single child and I am deeply judging her
@@lucialaurencena1288 Like, I don't care that she has a kink, but...keep that to people you're being kinky with? Don't push that in front of a teenage audience using your teenage characters while charging them money and calling it a "forbidden love story"
I read the books, and I would say that the movie is bad because it's not funny and takes itself too seriously. The books are dumb. Like, really dumb. But also fun, I had a good time reading them
To be fair as someone who read the books in school, the books were a lot better than the garbage fire of movie, even then. Also, I didn’t know this until recently but Cassandra Clare was a fanfic writer before she wrote the series so it actually tracks as to why Jace is written in a fanfic way.
I loved the Shadowhunters tv show. The first episodes honestly had alot of "telling not showing" to get through the background details of the "world" but once they got over that it improved a lot. That being said, I hated the movie and couldn't get myself to read the books. I tried more than once, like when they first came out, in college, in adulthood but I hated the writing so much lol
to be fair, i feel like introducing people (especially non fans totally unfamiliar with the source material) to a fantasy world in a movie where you have less than two hours is always going to be a mammoth of a task. like to me its a miracle if its ever pulled off elegantly.
"telling not showing" was one of my biggest problems in the book. i remember a whole chapter they info dumped about luke's life. i loved the show. season 1 was cringy but it was a lot more endearing than the movie. i have read all the books and still didn't understand the ending of the movie (not the incest thing, the climax fight sequence). after episode 4, the show got much better in terms of "telling not showing". of course i think it was the entrance of the fantastic magnus bane that made it better.
The way you were able to describe so many actors and yet Lena Heady was just the mom. I totally forgot she was in this. Like Lena, how did u end up here. What did they do to you?
When I tell you I ATE the mortal instruments up when I was 11. I DEVOURED it. It was my first introduction to reading novels, really, and I loved it. N O T jace or clary, hell no, i hated them. My favorite was simon, and I loved the world building and everything so when I saw this movie I quite liked it. (I eat up exposition like you wouldnt believe). When I saw this was posted i literally turned around and saw all the old books lined up on my wall 💀💀💀💀💀 the incest plot is gross and it is quite a weird and whitewashed series so it definitely deserved to be on BM&B, and you did a wonderful and hilarious job commentating.
I like the other series in the Shadowhunters universe (you know, the ones that don’t use incest as sexual tension). Mostly The Infernal Devices, although Magnus Bane did make the books tolerable.
Lmao I also still have them on my bookshelf. At least the spines of the covers look good lol. The world building was also my favorite part and why I kept reading
I don’t like Simon until later, but it’s so interesting how Simon being a jewish vampire is represented. Maybe it’s because there just aren’t any in fiction but it was one of the only not lazy parts of the story. Simon probably grows the most as a character in the series, he’s one of the book’s only redeemable parts tbh.
TBF, I thought the fake incest wasn't that different than in Star Wars, and you don't really see any outrage over it... granted in the book they go into more detail about how much they want each other.
It's been a while since I read the books, but rest assured! Clary actually does have a brother that has feelings for her. He was raised by Valentine like Jace but is very demon-y, a psychopath, and a manipulative bitch. When we first meet him he's undercover in the Shadowhunter capital and Jace and Clary still think they're siblings, so Sebastian (that's his name btw) decides to make Jace jealous by hitting on Clary because he's salty that Valentine loved Jace more. He then summons a demon army inside the city and kills a child (the baby brother of the other two Shadowhunter teens in the institute). And this is based on Cassandra Clare's Draco x Ginny fanfiction, and also her Ron x Ginny fanfiction. So yeah. The retcon incest was definitely the publishing company going "we can't publish incest, Cassandra, tone it down". The prequel (the infernal devices) is kinda good though. No incest! Just shapeshifting and angst in late 19th century London.
Yes. All the series that took place before and after the Mortal Instruments are actually so good. The Infernal Devices and the Dark Artifices were actual masterpieces. I'm sitting with the new series next to me on my bed and it gives a totally different vibe than the Mortal Instruments.
In my country there was a whole fight on Twitter because Demi Lovato made the soundtrack so their fans wanted to go watch it and support her but fans of the book ("the readers" of the ya scene at the time who were specially annoying and not like other girls) made a whole deal that only real fans who read the books, were fans and knew the characters were allowed to see it ... the movie bombed so hard in the nacional box office, no one saw that
I mostly read and still love the series due to Magnus, Alec, Simon, Izzy, and Chairman Meow. To me, Clary and Jace were obviously not going to be siblings by the end because as a reader, I just knew. He was too angel like to be a demon blooded brother. Knowing that was the only reason I kept reading… i also wanted Simon to finally be happy, poor boy. We all know that the main reason why the movie was bad is because they removed the rat scene! Honestly I still really love the whole Shadowhunter universe. Reading Simon’s and Magnus’ side novels was really fun. I think the monsters and world building are cool. I have the Codex (a guide to the shadowhunter world) and in it they put drawings of the monsters which are both gross and sick. TID will forever be amazing and Magnus the center of my heart. Over all, I just ignore Jace, and mostly Clary, because they are far from the reason why I love the shadowhunter universe. Ps. The mortal cup makes more shadowhunters, the sword makes you tell the truth, and the mirror, without spoiling, is a summoning gate for the angel, Raziel, when you summon him with all the Mortal instruments, sword, cup, and mirror. Also Hodge was cursed to stay in the institute as a punishment for being a henchman of Valentines. In the book it was never a secret. The movie did such a horrible job describing the story that listening to your summary pains me due to the inaccuracies. I only know better due to the books. Don’t get me wrong, you did great describing the nonsensical movie.
I remember reading the Divergent, Maze Runner, and Mortal Instruments series all at the same time. You can imagine how that shaped 11 year old me as a person😩

Omg same with the books, i was OBSESSED But the movie was disappointing for me And then years later you realise how fucked up was that the author had you rooting for incest and you are like 😳. I mean I think we all expected it to not be true but still, big yikes
Omg same! I was soooo obsessed with this series and the movie came out on my bday but I should've taken the hint when none of my friend wanted to go with me to see the movie lol
I remember being in middle school and joining the I hate Twilight bandwagon. I thought I was better than them because I read the Mortal Instruments. Then I grew up and realized it was worse.
The movie just tried to cram so much SO MUCH into one movie. This really needed to be a series from the beginning and I love what they did with the Shadowhunters series which is much better as it goes on. The characters just didn't fit the personalities of the characters in the books. They spend the movie just explaining everything instead of just...letting things flow and allow people to draw context clues. It was a huge missed opportunity
@@depgabby The first season was rough. It doesn't follow the books, but as someone who read the books and watched the show, I enjoy them as two very different separate things.
@@Shadowwing1994 this! as much as there were some holes in the plot, i enjoyed it for what it was. i also do prefer the second season, they did a better job with letting the story flow better especially since the audience already knew that the writers would take creative decisions with the story.
"with the eyebrows" so accurate. My husband can't even look at the title of this movie without clenching his jaw. He's a fan of the books (I've never read them so idk....) BAYYYYYBAYYYY that demon girl scene 🤣🤣🤣
I'm trans and City of Bones was my favorite thing in the whole world when I first started transitioning at 13 and uh. Jace's actor is named Jamie Campbell Bower. Jamie is now my legal name. So I basically have to like this movie on personal grounds.

Now that I’m 22 (and I read TMI when I was like 13-14) I realized Infernal Devices (which I read as they came out) is SO much better then TMI. Yes they do have the tropes YA books in the 2010’s tend to have, but the characters and story just made so much more sense and I could understand the love triangle alittle bit more. I’m waiting for them to make Infernal Devices their own movie series or tv series, I’m surprised they haven’t since most older audiences, especially now, tend to say they like Infernal Devices more then TMI
Would LOVE to see a review of “The Host”! It’s an adaptation of Stephenie Meter’s novel and it stars Saoirse Ronan and Max Irons!! I remember watching that as a kid just thinking how horrible it was lol
Honestly, same. The Infernal Devices is one of the only series I've ever read that does love triangles right. Also the epilogue is just *chef's kiss*. Still makes me cry. And idk why people shit on The Dark Artifices so much even though childhood besties to lovers is such a common trope??
Same. Maybe I’m grading on a curve because TMI was so weird, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed The Infernal Devices. It wasn’t perfect but it was so much better than TMI.
@@uhh9919 tmi is just...there's no words to describe what a clusterfuck it is, actually. Even when I was reading it in middle school, I was just like "uhhh, this shit is weird." Also i feel like cassie's writing has definitely improved a lot since her tmi days
Guilty to admit that I used to watch Shadowhunters, but only for Harry Shum Jr as Magnus Bane, my guy was carrying that show on his beautiful buff shoulders.
ok when i tell you i went into this series blind and was so upset by random incest. i got to the first book and when they revealed that i literally put the book down and stopped reading. even after friends told me it wasn't true i just could get my head around how they were planning to pull it off. especially because i guess they dont find out it was a lie until the 3rd book or something like that but i didn't care i had all ready noped out of there.
as someone who has read all of the books in the entire book universe (yes, there's multiple series within it), i will say i enjoy the show so much more than the movie/books. they are fairly different and the show only follows the major plotlines and throws in their own stuff in between, but things are so much more entertaining in it
someone else who enjoys the show more than the books!!! i cant believe it! the show was amazing in my opinion. season 1 might have been cringy but it still was loads more interesting than the books and movie. i like the changes they made, and in my personal opinion, the changes were better than the book's one.
If you get the chance to, I highly recommend watching the film ‘Tusk’ from A24. That movie is a whole acid trip and a half and you will never look at walruses the same way ever again.
I have a love/hate relationship with that movie because I love horror and body horror doesn't bother me that much but that one... It traumatised me. (His friends were awful, they let him live like that)
I love how that series tried to pass it off as ok because he was actually just possessing her brother's body. Like, do you understand why incest is a problem, Matsuri Hino? Lol.
@@Hakajin remember guys, it’s ok, he’s just your ancestor from 10000+ years ago. The blood relation is practically irrelevant at that point- On a side note, the interactions between Yuki and Zero in Vampire Knight Memories are 10/10
Even though i have conflicted feelings towards the series, the reason why the movie felt like a shit(ty)show of epic proportions to me is the fact that the movie producers cherry-picked essential plot devices, threw everything else on the wayside and attempted to connect the frayed ends together to make an abomination of a movie. To be frank, Clairy only had 1 power manifest in the first movie(last time I checked). And they COMPLETELY redid Luke and wrote him as a pack member before Clairy's mother, Jocelyn was abducted. In the original series, he was a lone wolf and only took over the nearest pack to have more manpower to fight against valentine. I could go for days on how they screwed up the technical parts of the series.
I don't recall if they ever actually say if he was a part of the pack before Jocelyn was abducted in the movie though? 🤔 I thought they left it as ambiguous as it was in the books. We don't initially know, in the books, if he was always a part of the pack he shows up with or not...until later on, when Luke explains that's why he mysteriously disappeared for a while, because he had to essentially go steal a pack so he could be more helpful.
13:30 A trend that used to be in a lot of anime was that whenever there was a character that turned evil or like a minor antagonist, They turned Dark skinned
Honestly I can’t tell if I love or hate the concept of a tri-tone being able to detect demons bc they hate the sound but I’ll give points for the creativity and history.
Take a shot every time a beloved childhood franchise gets a movie adaptation that was supposed to span multiple entries but ended at one because it was so bad *cough cough* Eragon, ATLA, Percy Jackson *cough*
there’s actually three situations of incest in the books, two “not actually but it’s still weird” incest and one full on “yeah that’s definitely incest” between clary and jace where we later find out that they are not related but jace was raised by valentine the other being the other shadowhunter (alec) being in love with jace when they were raised basically as brothers bc alec’s family adopted jace after he was “orphaned” from a young age. and the other finally being straight up incest when sebastian (clary’s actual brother) shows up and is basically in love with her and even kisses her several times. the only enjoyable part about the entire series was magnus and maybe the werewolves.
Maybe the next bad movie & a beat could be “The strange thing about the Johnsons” if you ever heard about it or didn’t talk about it already 😁. (it’s a shocker)
I'd always heard things about Cassandra Clare, but I'd never read her books. I was in the Harry Potter fandom though, so I knew of her fics about Draco(though I'd never read them. Heard a ton about Draco in leather pants, however). Well, I looked her books up when I started watching the Shadowhunters series. Yeah, she wrote a whole ass incest fanfic about Ginny and Ron where they were screwing to make Harry and Hermione(who were dating) jealous. lol.
The Ron/Ginny incest fic was called Mortal Instruments 😭. I'm like 90% sure she just changed Death Eaters for demons and changed the names around. Yikers!
@@fabulousdomo Yup. lol. It shared the same name. Also, I just find Ron and Ginny's logic in this fic really screwed. They were upset about Harry and Hermione wanted to be experienced or something and win them over? Just reading the explanation of the fic was so strange and freaky.

I read these books and remember nothing of Jace and clary's relationship I was there for mangus, alec, simon, and Isabelle. Jace and clary were honestly so annoying
“Just started talking to another Virgo sun Scorpio moon, exhausted” KENNIE?! I thought we were FRIENDS?! Also as someone who read the books when I was a kid, I’ll tell you now: nobody was reading for Clary and Jace. The side characters were way more interesting. You kinda had to slug through their boring shit to get to Magnus or Simon etc.
deadass. i remember thinking back on the books even a little while after reading them like 'i do not care that they are together'. the surrounding characters definitely made the books as popular as they are.
This movie reminds me of “Beautiful Creatures”. It’s a book series turn movie. It’s one of those movies where it’s really bad but for some reason I can’t get enough. It a shame that it is so bad bc it has great potential, pretty good cgi, and a star studded cast; like Viola Davis is in it! Super upsetting that it’s a bad movie but highly recommend checking it out.
Spoiler alert just in case lol. The flashbacks from these series, I kind of remember Jace basically saying they could live somewhere else where people wouldn't know they were siblings and could be happy together. Then there was Maia, the biracial black twin who was abused by her brother and then her boyfriend that turned her into a wolf. And for whatever damn reason this grown ass lady decided to put her back together with her abuser. It was a bit much for me
I FORGOT ABOUT THIS!!! Then she basically dismissed the abuse because he was acting that way due to being bitten!! The more I remember these books the more I realize how f-ed up it was
Back in the day one of my friends wanted us to buddy read the TMI books and it was a struggle to get through. After that I took a break from all things Cassandra Clare, but my friend kept saying the prequel series, The Infernal Devices, was good so I checked that out. I was surprised that I ended up actually enjoying it. No weird incest plot lines, the main characters are actually likable and the love triangle wasn’t annoying. It’s so weird to me that TMI keeps getting adaptations (movie and show) when TID is way less convoluted and doesn’t carry the “used to be a Ron/Ginny incest fic” stigma. I mean TID isn’t perfect, but I think it’s generally regarded by most people as being a better series than TMI. Also I’m loving the hair.
I went into the books already knowing they weren’t actually siblings so that helped a little bit, but the first three books are average at best. It gets better as the worldbuilding grows and the series progresses, but to answer some of your questions: Valentine raised Jace as his child, that’s why Jace believes him (it’s later found out that he stole him as a baby after his biological father died). Clary is, in fact, Valentine’s daughter. Clary’s mom can’t dispute Jace as her child because she’s in a coma, but she did have a male child with Valentine, it’s just not Jace (his name is Sebastian, he appears in the third book). Overall, the movie just rushed through an incredibly long and complicated book, that’s why it worked better as a series.
I remember reading the books in highschool, mostly for alec & magnus. I also always felt soo sad for Luke's sister amatis, girl never caught a break EVER! I only watched the pilot of the show shadowhunters and always wondered if they ever brought amatis into the show and gave her a happier/more hopeful ending.
I was never a huge fan of this series but my sister was! She definitely liked the tv adaptation better than this, but in both, Magnus was our absolute favorite, especially how they went about his bisexuality in the series
I was so obsessed with the mortal instruments series when they came out, and still love the other works in the franchise, (especially The Infernal Devices, so in love with both those boys)... I remember HATING this movie so much. I was so offended when someone who knew i liked the books asked if I wanted to watch it. I reread the first 3 books of the Mortal Instruments and they were definitely not as good as I remember. Reading them in the order they came out, the world building and Clare's writing solidified naturally over time, but going back to the beginning, there's a bunch of stuff that doesn't make sense. Like, Simon gets introduced with an extra sibling that is never mentioned again in any of her other books. Anyway, in the books, after it's revealed that Jace ISNT Clary's brother it turns out she DOES have a brother (honestly one of my favorite characters ngl) who is part demon, and therefore "cant understand love" (personally i think he was just incredibly abused as a child and it could have been explored better) and in his search for "love" that he can't understand, he attempts to r*pe Clary, bc "he does understand sex." She gets away or whatever but... Idk I still have a soft spot for Cassandra Clare's writings, but she was definitely pushing the wrong kinds of boundaries in the Mortal Instruments. Subsequent series in the same universe are better in my opinion, but the whole concept of Shadowhunders being isolated from the rest of society already invites a lot of incestuous connotation, which is even pointed at in the books at one point.
Loool
The thing is .. it's never actually confirmed, in the books, if that was actually the truth or actually a lie though. 😅🤣🤣

Spoilers for ppl that haven’t read but in case someone wants to know: Valentine lied to Jace about being his father as this added plot twist.
I just remember Vampire Knight as the Zero-deserves-better manga

Omg eww
Why would anyone do that
Ew what
I had a love-hate relationship with the book series, it's so bad but so bad it's good in a way??? Standouts for me were all the descriptive lines basically calling Jace gold "His golden skin/eyes/hair sparkled in the light" e.t.c. and every straight guy finding Clary so endearing (even her half-brother! Which is a whole other can of worms) when she has the personality of a soggy bread and cardboard hybrid.
I think it was only the angel blood for Clary, thats the only thing she had going for her.
Honestly, the only saving grace this series has is the mortal instruments prequel trilogy without all the main casts of the original
I read these when I was 11-12 😭 sad
I love how the demon girl screams in normal girl voice when Luke attacks her, like can you at least make us believe that she was dangerous.

You're not reaching. Spike Lee has talked about the use of magical black people stereotype in media and how it manifests.
You got a point that’s not reaching
It's the literal "magical negro" trope. They do this to blk people but usually it's blk people who don't have actual supernatural powers but are there solely to lead the white protagonist with wisdom and some sort of parental guidance. Other POC's have this trope too ,but it's rampant in white stories that feature a blk character.
I remember reading the part where they revealed clary and jace were “siblings” in class. Literally had a whole shut the book moment and asked myself what led me to this. I guess my face was so drastic cause my friend was like “ooooh is it a sad ending”
I’m am quietly dying in my room over this book being so bad that it made you question your life choices

God knows Bonnie deserved a happy ending more than anyone on that show and her and Damon had the best enemies to friends to lovers dynamics in the whole story
I actually really liked Bonnie with Enzo more but we all know how that turned out💀💀 just couldn’t let my good sis be happy
I've been saying this since the beginning BONNIE AND DAMON SHOULD'VE BEEN END GAME
YES. I SHIP BONNIE AND DAMON

Okay, the part about Clary guessing Alec was gay was just as random in the books if I remember correctly. The author is just bad at writing
Honestly, the fanfics about Magnus and Alec are much better than canon

As I said under someone else's comment, the fanfics based on the shadow world are much better than the canon storyline
to be fair, i feel like introducing people (especially non fans totally unfamiliar with the source material) to a fantasy world in a movie where you have less than two hours is always going to be a mammoth of a task. like to me its a miracle if its ever pulled off elegantly.

Mine is Isabelle~ From what I remember from the books, she's awesome and a badass. Plus, Magnus and his cat Chairman Meow. Glitter everywhere ✨
I still love The infernal devices thrilogy, It was so much better then TMI
I just said this, enjoyed Infernal Devices. It was so good. I was surprised it was by the same author because the writing style definitely changed.
The Infernal Devices was a one of the greatest series I ever read as a teenager. It doesn't deserve to be attached to the garbage that is TMI
I loved the infernal devices 😭😭 I read that series first and was really excited to read the mortal instruments but was greatly disappointed 🤣
In my country there was a whole fight on Twitter because Demi Lovato made the soundtrack so their fans wanted to go watch it and support her but fans of the book ("the readers" of the ya scene at the time who were specially annoying and not like other girls) made a whole deal that only real fans who read the books, were fans and knew the characters were allowed to see it
... the movie bombed so hard in the nacional box office, no one saw that
i hate book fans like that. just because people dont read the books that doesnt mean they arent a fan.
The movie flopped - it was written on bad source material so....
Also, don't you wanna jump into the dumpster fire that is the Divergent series with the rest of us? Let's burn together, sistren!
I remember reading the Divergent, Maze Runner, and Mortal Instruments series all at the same time. You can imagine how that shaped 11 year old me as a person😩
I mean but out of those three Maze Runner is the only one that really holds up
GIRL, I DID NOT EXPECT SUCH A PLEASANT SURPRISE! THE WAY THIS WAS MY FAVORITR BOOK SERIES AND FAVORITE MOVIE WHEN IT CAME OUT THO, I- edit: I ALSO GREW UP AND REALIZED HOW TERRIBLE IT IS 🤣 BUT THE SOUNDTRACK STILL SLAPS 💅🏾
Omg same with the books, i was OBSESSED
But the movie was disappointing for me
And then years later you realise how fucked up was that the author had you rooting for incest and you are like 😳. I mean I think we all expected it to not be true but still, big yikes
I thought I was so clever for keeping up with the esoteric verbosity that was the dialogue between characters 😭
Omg same! I was soooo obsessed with this series and the movie came out on my bday but I should've taken the hint when none of my friend wanted to go with me to see the movie lol
me too! but then I grew up and realized how terrible they both were 😭
I remember being in middle school and joining the I hate Twilight bandwagon.
All facts!
The shadowhunters series is so bad what are you on
@@depgabby The first season was rough.
He's a fan of the books (I've never read them so idk....)
BAYYYYYBAYYYY that demon girl scene 🤣🤣🤣
I'm trans and City of Bones was my favorite thing in the whole world when I first started transitioning at 13 and uh. Jace's actor is named Jamie Campbell Bower. Jamie is now my legal name. So I basically have to like this movie on personal grounds.
Congrats! I was obsessed with it when I was in the grippy sock hospital for a few months, and now he's in stranger things and I have an issue with skeletal looking dudes, he's just so hot.
STOP ME TOO…. Jace was bait to young trans guys tbh i wanted that to be me so bad
Robert Sheenan was the only good thing in this trainwreck of a film and NOBODY can change my mind
YES
I’m sorry but the wolf taking the kid through the window TOOK ME OUT!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 COMEDIC GOLD!!!!
LMAO, I replayed that part 3 times
It's Harold Lloyd level of physical comedy🤣🤣
Would LOVE to see a review of “The Host”! It’s an adaptation of Stephenie Meter’s novel and it stars Saoirse Ronan and Max Irons!! I remember watching that as a kid just thinking how horrible it was lol
When you mentioned vampire knight, you literally jolted a memory I was trying to forget 😂 that anime fucked up my view on anime for FOUR YEEAARRRSS
"a very forgettable film." THAT was an under-fucking-statement. I had completely forgotten that I had seen it.
Same... I started to realize that I've seen it when she showed the scenes
okay listen my TMI phase was extremely cringe, but The Infernal Devices is the hill i will DIE on. i will defend it to my grave.
...I just realized that the initials for this series are so apt.
The whole series gives us TMI about Cassy Clare's kinks.
It wasn’t perfect but it was so much better than TMI.
same here, honestly i love tid, tda, and tlh even if they arent the best writing in a “technical” way but tmi... yea i cant defend her 😭
@@uhh9919 tmi is just...there's no words to describe what a clusterfuck it is, actually.
I was never able to sit through any of the episodes and I only ever watched the magnus and malec scenes on UA-cam so I get you
ok when i tell you i went into this series blind and was so upset by random incest. i got to the first book and when they revealed that i literally put the book down and stopped reading. even after friends told me it wasn't true i just could get my head around how they were planning to pull it off. especially because i guess they dont find out it was a lie until the 3rd book or something like that but i didn't care i had all ready noped out of there.
as someone who has read all of the books in the entire book universe (yes, there's multiple series within it), i will say i enjoy the show so much more than the movie/books. they are fairly different and the show only follows the major plotlines and throws in their own stuff in between, but things are so much more entertaining in it
someone else who enjoys the show more than the books!!! i cant believe it! the show was amazing in my opinion. season 1 might have been cringy but it still was loads more interesting than the books and movie. i like the changes they made, and in my personal opinion, the changes were better than the book's one.
Right?! I adored the tv series.
If you get the chance to, I highly recommend watching the film ‘Tusk’ from A24. That movie is a whole acid trip and a half and you will never look at walruses the same way ever again.
Noo I was just getting the Wallus the Walrus image out of my head from Amanda the Jedi's video 😭
I have a love/hate relationship with that movie because I love horror and body horror doesn't bother me that much but that one... It traumatised me.
(His friends were awful, they let him live like that)
OML I remember that
“After my trauma with vampire knight” I CACKLED. Tell me why I had the same exact experience lol.
That intro still slaps though
I love how that series tried to pass it off as ok because he was actually just possessing her brother's body. Like, do you understand why incest is a problem, Matsuri Hino? Lol.
Ughh samee terrible experience
Vampire Knight hit us all this like I stg
Oh cmon, the outros slap harder. Kanon Wakeshima is a cello goddess, still can’t believe she was 16 when she released those songs 😭
@@Hakajin remember guys, it’s ok, he’s just your ancestor from 10000+ years ago. The blood relation is practically irrelevant at that point-
On a side note, the interactions between Yuki and Zero in Vampire Knight Memories are 10/10
Even though i have conflicted feelings towards the series, the reason why the movie felt like a shit(ty)show of epic proportions to me is the fact that the movie producers cherry-picked essential plot devices, threw everything else on the wayside and attempted to connect the frayed ends together to make an abomination of a movie.
Sorry I meant that only 1 power manifested in the books, not the movies
I don't recall if they ever actually say if he was a part of the pack before Jocelyn was abducted in the movie though? 🤔 I thought they left it as ambiguous as it was in the books.
We don't initially know, in the books, if he was always a part of the pack he shows up with or not...until later on, when Luke explains that's why he mysteriously disappeared for a while, because he had to essentially go steal a pack so he could be more helpful.

A trend that used to be in a lot of anime was that whenever there was a character that turned evil or like a minor antagonist, They turned Dark skinned
Honestly I can’t tell if I love or hate the concept of a tri-tone being able to detect demons bc they hate the sound but I’ll give points for the creativity and history.
Take a shot every time a beloved childhood franchise gets a movie adaptation that was supposed to span multiple entries but ended at one because it was so bad
*cough cough* Eragon, ATLA, Percy Jackson *cough*
At least they’re redoing Percy Jackson and hopefully with a much more faithful adaptation :)
It pains me that the Percy Jackson series could've been such an iconic movie franchise if they just never fumbled it
@@regularpotato agreed!
beautiful creatures 😭
@@MoonlitReads Rick Riordan wasn’t involved in the films and is very involved with the TV series so it should be much better
I was caught off guard when Vampire Knight got mentioned and now I need Kennie to do a video about it
Same cause vampire knight is my shit lol
Same 😂
it's funny to realize I wasn't the only person who was into that show/manga
My joy is palpable, this film is a trainwreck but Kennie's on point
there’s actually three situations of incest in the books, two “not actually but it’s still weird” incest and one full on “yeah that’s definitely incest” between clary and jace where we later find out that they are not related but jace was raised by valentine the other being the other shadowhunter (alec) being in love with jace when they were raised basically as brothers bc alec’s family adopted jace after he was “orphaned” from a young age. and the other finally being straight up incest when sebastian (clary’s actual brother) shows up and is basically in love with her and even kisses her several times. the only enjoyable part about the entire series was magnus and maybe the werewolves.
Yikers!
nooo dear LORD why
Oh dear God, what a disturbing anecdote
@@fabulousdomo Yup. lol. It shared the same name. Also, I just find Ron and Ginny's logic in this fic really screwed. They were upset about Harry and Hermione wanted to be experienced or something and win them over? Just reading the explanation of the fic was so strange and freaky.
@@callysta1414 "I've always had a sort of interest in incest as a symbolic fictional theme, and I tried to use it symbolically here. The inspiration for this story (started nine months ago now) came from kitsune13, who said she wanted to read a story in which Harry and Hermione fall in love, thus driving Ron and Ginny into each other's arms, so Catja, this one's for you. :> The secondary inspiration was this picture by Alessandra.
So. Rated NC-17 for taboo sex, dark themes, and Ron's spiral into complete insanity. If you don't like the idea of any of the above, please skip this one. Also the only HP story I have ever written that does not even mention Draco Malfoy. Many thanks to blackholly and tromboneborges for the betas."
This was on Fanlore about how Cassandra Claire came up with the story. lmao.

I read these books and remember nothing of Jace and clary's relationship I was there for mangus, alec, simon, and Isabelle. Jace and clary were honestly so annoying
Honestly, I really like The Eldest Curses just because of Malec
I like the laid-back look today. KJD has a lot of natural beauty.
Ashamed to admit 6th grade me was 100% reading for Clary and Jace
deadass. i remember thinking back on the books even a little while after reading them like 'i do not care that they are together'. the surrounding characters definitely made the books as popular as they are.
@@mackenzieargue6434 I agree. I feel like after the show got popular, Alec and Magnus fans kind of held Cassandra Clare’s following together.
It was a bit much for me
OMG please I almost forgot about Maia’s story omg PLSSS
Can we talk about how TMI is literally tmi?
'The Infernal Devices' is a costume-drama, so it would be more expensive.
@@Mecharnie_Dobbs I hadn’t thought of that before, but that’s a good point.
They do have Luke's sister, but they made her name Cleophas. I remember she's living her best life in a cottage
Ok, off topic, can we just marvel at how well Kennie can rock a messy bun? Like, damn! 😂❤
I was never a huge fan of this series but my sister was! She definitely liked the tv adaptation better than this, but in both, Magnus was our absolute favorite, especially how they went about his bisexuality in the series
At first I thought the title said "My first time watching My Immortal." And I was like, oh lord they made a movie 💀

This movie reminds me how gorgeous Godfrey Gao was and how he was taken way too soon. RIP
Jace gets jealous and "he goes to play AGGRESSIVE BACH". lmao, this is incredible
The man who suggested the lie about incest was craving Chaos.
All I could hear was "Am I the drama, maybe I am".😂😂😂
