    That is a rare variety of A. Cactus you don't see very often. Will be nice to see the form of these once they get bit older. From my experience, Astrophytums even with good light, water, and warmth, are amongst the very slowest growers of the cactus world, which is why extra large columnar specimens attract a premium.
    Those small clay pots are a god send for plants of a very small size. You are right, you can't find many of those anywhere except specialist suppliers. Plastic pots do the job, but I find clay pots by far much more attractive, and it draws attention to the plants which are in them. Thanks again J.P

      These little clay pots really are a godsend James, and so hard to find for sale, I was so lucky to find these on Amazon but they are impossible to find any where else, even the little plastic 5cm pots are so hard to find now even on Amazon, Astros really are so slow growing and I think it will be a long time before these little cuties flower for me haha :-D thanks so much for your wonderful support and amazing comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Somerset for a super Saturday XXXX

    Well I can honestly say all the times I’ve been to my garden centre to buy my clay pots I’ve never seen a clay pot as small as those ones Lyn, they’re so damn cute 💗 I’m amazing at how slow these cactuses grow Lyn ... you showed them in February 2018 and they’re still so tiny, that’s amazing to me.

    I'm glad you posted this. My astrophytums are just over two months now and haven't grown. But you said they are very slow. I'm worried they're running out of water though the soil looks pretty dry. Mine are smaller than this so not sure when is the right time to take them out of their boxes.

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  4 роки тому

      Astrophytum seedlings are so slow growing and these stayed like little dots for ages haha, its normally best to keep them in their boxes for as long as possible when they are small but I think if the soil is dry it may be best to take them out of their boxes to give them more water, it can be tricky when they are very small though, and they are incredible slow growing, thanks so much Des for your wonderful support and comments and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Florida for a super Saturday XXXX

    Hello there! These nice seedings looks much different from A. coahuilense...or at least 3 of them looks much more like A. capricorne. And I have some worries about the soil. They needs nutrients to grow, so fertilizer would be necessary in near future. It looks perfect for +5,6 years old plants. Kind regards!

    I have 3 weeny astro seedlings in a pot too. They are 5 months old 😍. I did sow some loph williamsii and had 4. 2 died and the last 2 were starting g to show their teeny dots on the top and I checked on them yesterday and they had gone soft all of a sudden. I don't understand what I've done wrong. Is it because I didnt let them dry out? I kept the soil damp but not soggy. It's very disheartening as they arent cheap seed or ready available

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  4 роки тому +1

      So sorry to hear about your Lophs seedlings Bev, with young seedlings the soil should always be damp, and I am not sure what could have gone wrong, but I always find that young seedlings seem to struggle after the 5-6 months, I have had Loph seedlings die off after a few months too and not sure why, its so disheartening when it happens too, but thats wonderful you have your little Astro seedlings growing well, thanks so much Bev for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a super Saturday XXXX

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  Рік тому

      Hi :-D I still keep all of my cactus seedlings lightly watered for the first year even in winter, but once a year has passed i keep the seedlings a lot drier through the winter months, but I would still give them a light watering about once every 6 weeks in winter if I have them indoors at room temperature, once they have grown to about half an inch in width then I will keep them totally dry over the winter, thanks so much for watching and for your wonderful comments and have a fantastic plant powered Sunday XXXX

      Lots of times grafting is done with cacti that is especially slow to grow naturally. Its grafted onto a cactus base of a fast growing cactus so this in turn makes the grafted cactus grow bigger so much faster

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  4 роки тому

      So sorry you lost your dragon fruit cactus George, a good seed supplier online is succseed.com and also cactusstore.com and rareplant.me.com, but if they dont sell any dragon fruit seeds, you can also buy a dragon fruit fruit from a fruit market and harvest the seeds from a fruit, it may be easier to do this if you can find the fruit for sale at a fruit market, thanks so much for your wonderful friendship and support and amazing comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Moldova for a super Saturday XXXX
