I'm literally always winning, seethe and cope.
"It was about 10 years ago when we were working on the original Drakengard that I thought about the meaning of “killing.” I was looking at a lot of games back then, and I saw these messages like “You’ve defeated 100 enemies!” or “Eradicated 100 enemy soldiers!” in an almost gloating manner. But when I thought about it in an extremely calm state of mind, it hit me that gloating about killing a hundred people is strange. I mean, you’re a serial killer if you killed a hundred people. It just struck me as insane. That’s why I decided to have the army of the protagonist in Drakengard be one where everyone’s insane, to create this twisted organization where everyone’s wrong and unjust. I wanted to weave a tale about these twisted people.
And then we worked on Nier…We created this game called Nier, and after the world experienced the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the war in Iraq, we were being bombarded with updates on terrorist organizations and activities even in Japan. That’s when my opinion changed. The vibe I was getting from society was: you don’t have to be insane to kill someone. You just have to think you’re right. So that’s why I made Nier a game revolving around this concept of “being able to kill others if you think you’re right,” or “everyone believes that they’re in the right.”"

I have such mixed feelings right now. What started out as a cringe overused meme comment, ended in me literally laughing out loud. Like, with my actual fucking voice, out LOUD. No one else in the fuckin' room. For some reason, the ending part there with the "hes not" in fucking parenthesis was so fucking funny to me. i mean theres still pain in ending A anyway cause your told the truth about shades right before the final boss and theres nothing in the game that reveals to you that by killing the shadowlord you doom both replicants and gestalts

I love the similarities between Shadowlord and Eve
-Both are finall bosses of routes A/B
-Both are fighting for the sake of their sibling and go full despair after losing them
-Both ends up kneeling after the fight, just waiting for finishing blow
-One breaks our melee weapons, forcing us to take him down with ranged attacks, while the other can only be taken down with melee weapon while we lost our ranged attacks
-Their themes have pretty similar feel to me. While epic they are also sad and melancholic
their paterns and their looks are also extremly similar.
I think it was done on with the purpose of pointing out that Adam and Eve are the same yet opposite of 2B and 9S. Like Nier with the Shadowlord.
I’m pretty sure both Adam and Eve were constructed with parts of Replicant Nier and Gestalt Nier’s data. Hence why Eve has the same English Voice Actor as Replicant Nier
Also, the Shadowlord and Replicant Nier were fighting for the sake of their sibling. The rest of the world and humanity be damned if they could save their family. Also the rest of humanity were assholes anyway (the scientists and the government overseers behind the project, the Aerie villagers that tormented Kaine for her glitched body just to name a few). Did you really think the Shadowlord was fighting for the other gestalts' sake? No he was fighting for the same reason as his Replicant.

The saddest, most metal boss theme in the world. A juxtaposition of objectively doing the right thing, while simultaneously doing the WORST THING YOU COULD POSSIBLY DO.
A father saving his daughter is never wrong under any circumstance. Father Nier did nothing wrong.

@Zero Tsu Well, many people also think that Taro is responsible for all story and world related when other writers and designers play a huge part too.
It's quite common for one or a small group of people to be in the spotlight and get most of the credit from the majority of people.
Why should I thank Yoko Taro for a story where he was only 1/3 of the writing staff. The man's name is not the only one in Drakengard games. The reason for this game to be so much better than the others is because Sawako Natori and Kikuchi Hana wrote it as well.
Dude, me too. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with NieR Replicant Ver.12247 so much just because I simply didn't even try to not cry. I *_wanted_* to and I'm not even kidding, I LITERALLY tear-streaming-down-face cried nearly a dozen times, which is straight up ... i mean, to be honest, kind of embarrassing. I just turned 30 years old *_literally_* yesterday. So I was 29 years old. By myself. No one else in the room as I just wanted to experience it alone with no distractions or other opinions just yet.... just fully bawling by myself.

Best Self-Killing Simulator ever
I swear this is the best final boss music I've ever heard. I'm glad the Replicant remaster came out just so more people could hear this track. It's the perfect type of song for a battle that will end up dooming all of humanity. The song just gets more and more effective and chilling the more you know about what is actually happening in the story.
I am SO SO HAPPY that Shadowlord is getting the love it deserved from the beginning, back when original Nier was released it wasn't really popular, even years after that it stayed as one of the less popular songs of the franchise, but now? it's being appreciated as the masterpiece it is and I'm so glad for it!
Well, I still don't know nothing about Nier that isn't "big sad no win" and "salty snow", but I discovered the game through this song and it's a big surprise to know that this wasn't always popular

Man, this fight is a real gut punch. Especially in subsequent playthroughs when you can understand what Shadowlord is saying.
Shadowlord: "Yonah? Why?"
Nier: "You want me to understand your sadness? You think I'm gonna sympathize with you?"
Shadowlord: "But why!?"
Nier: "I swore to protect my sister/daughter and my friends. If someone puts them in danger, they must stand aside or be cut down! Now come on! Let's finish this!"
It really brings to light how you're not the good guy here. No one is. This world has gone to hell on a hand basket and everyone is fighting to survive, regardless of what happens to those around them. And yet, despite everyone's greatest efforts, everyone loses. Everybody dies
The reason I really love that scene on route B is that you see how the Shadowlord and Nier are the same person in that one set of dialouge.
Nier tells the Shadowlord he's going to pay for endangering Yonah and the Shadowlord isn't even listening because his Yonah left him.
They're both just trying to do what's best for Yonah, but only one of them can reach their goal while the other must suffer for it.
I think NieR wasnt wrong of all. Replicants won their own will, in that moment morally they obtained the right to defend their way of life, in addition, humans would take their body from them even when they know that they are intelligent and similar to them. In my opinion it's about factions, humanity had opportunities and they failed, now it's up to the replicants although it's a shame that they have no salvation...
