    What I have are DARKER roots on my hair. I have gone from salt'n pepper to shade 10. But, the roots are around a shade 8.
    Can you help with how I can fix this please? Thank you

    Ok I’m hoping that ur not only going to tell us how to avoid this but also how to fix it once it’s happened

    Hi, I hope you see this. I get hot roots whenever I dye my hair the same level as my natural hair color. I have medium ashy brown hair (lvl 6), with some gray in it, and I've been dying it with equal(ish) parts of 5.1 and 6.1 dye just because of this problem. The last time I did a root touch-up, I used just 6.1 and got hot roots again - the same level as my natural hair, but coppery. Why does this keep happening? All I want is to recreate my natural hair color. I use 20 vol developer.
    Thank you for both videos, btw, there isn't a lot of conclusive info about this online. 🙏

      Thanks for watching, and for the question. What can happen often is that even though you are depositing color, the 20 volume is still lifting the hair underneath the color. If you were going significantly darker it may not be an issue. The first thing I would try is reducing the developer to 10 vol and process the color a little bit longer. If it doesn't cover the gray well enough you may try going 1/2 to 1 level darker and stick with the 10. Let me know how it goes 😁

      @@CosmoDad Thank you so much for replying! I never considered the 10 vol because I didn't think I'd get grey coverage, but I'll definitely try leaving it on for longer. My hair isn't coarse, so it might work. Thank you again for the advice, I can't wait to see how it turns out. 😊

    So question with box dye, The color turns out amazing but at the root it doesn’t. Its lighter, how can I avoid this when I use box dye since you can’t necessarily tweak the formula

      This is where being able to use different developers for different zones on the head would be useful. It's an unfortunate drawback of home hair color. Ideally you would use a weaker developer for the roots and the current developer for the rest.

    Im a natural redhead and my eyebrows and eyelashes are black but the roots of those hairs are blond so I don't really know why is that

    • @CosmoDad
      @CosmoDad  3 роки тому +4

      I almost included this in the video but I didn't want to confuse anyone. This is what I think is happening with the roots of most natural redheads. As hair grows from the follicle, it takes about a month for those hairs to fully harden (to keratinize) Your pigment is in the inner layer of the hair (cortex) and light has to travel through the outer layers (cuticle). The new hair, on top of being soft has a raised cuticle that absorbs more light than it reflects and I think the natural pigment is kind of still "Settling". Within a month that hair fully hardens and you see it's actual color. That blonde root area is about how much your hair grows in a month!

      Thanks for watching! I do have a video explaining the math for reducing developer volume. To reduce 50 to 20 using distilled water the ratio is 2.5 parts water to 1 part 50 volume. For example 20ml 50 vol+ 50ml water =70ml 20 volume

    Help! What if fantasy color isn’t taking to my roots? And it’s makes it look like hot roots? :(

    • @CosmoDad

      Hmmm. I would need more info. Shade/level of color, level of your roots vs your ends. Most likely it's one of 2 things. Your hair is not light enough at the roots so the color doesn't really influence it. Kind of like coloring on dark construction paper with a pastel marker. Or (and this scenario isn't likely) your roots are so light/damaged there is nothing for the color to stick to.
      Or it could be another reason entirely

    Right now my hair is light blue and my roots are way lighter almost blonde with a hint of blue in it and idk how to fix them

    • @CosmoDad
      @CosmoDad  3 роки тому +1

      It really depends on what you are going for. Assuming it is an even blue all over you are going for as your final result, sometimes all it takes is re-applying the blue on the areas that didn't take. It's hard to say without seeing and feeling your hair as well as the color. When dealing with vivid colors alot of the standard rules are different. 🤔

      @@CosmoDad I tried reapplying dye with my last colour which was purple, I fully coated my roots with lavender crazy colour hair dye and none of it stuck into the root so idk if my hair is just too damaged that it just won’t take any colour. It’s definitely light enough to dye it

    • @CosmoDad
      @CosmoDad  3 роки тому

      Lavender can be a tricky one. Sometimes the hair is too light. Since the final result is a combination of the existing hair color and the artificial color manufacturers basically have to make a judgement call on what color "canvas" their color might go on to. I've worked with some lavenders (I've never worked with Crazy Colors) that are formulated for more yellow hair and if it's not yellow enough, the color turns out wierd. Have you tried a darker color at the root? This could also help reveal whether the hair is too porous

    • @3llyss3
      @3llyss3 3 роки тому

      @@CosmoDad no I’ve not tried a darker colour because I only buy one colour at a time

    How do you fix them tho? 😭

    • @CosmoDad
      @CosmoDad  3 роки тому +3

      The most reliable way is to color them as dark as the ends. Ideally we would all lighten the darker hair to match the light roots but that isn't always possible and even less possible as a DIY project
