    I think the problem with the masher is that it doesn't have the right grip style. The masher you prefer allows you to push down with the palm of your hand, creating a straight line from your arm down, while the gadget featured puts more of a strain on your wrist. Now if someone were to take the locking/swivel mechanism and put two of them, one on either side, you'd have a gadget that would provide a foldable masher, but keep the palm based, straight line use.

    • @Hampsteri42

      90% of smashers have vertical handle like the gadget, but Barry was holding it wrong way. It should be held like a joystick, thumb on top if needed.

    Handy hints for peeling garlic, zap your garlic in the microwave for about 30 seconds, it peels a lot easier, and dearest Barry, when pushing down on something, don't have it in the middle of the bench, have it closer to the edge, that way you can use your weight to push down harder, cheers from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺

    The small pan is perfect for a Japanese "rolled" omelette. You might give it a try.
    I have "egg pan" that looks similar (10cm, round), and I really like having something small to cook eggs without using a full sized fry pan. You're right that they feel 'cheep', but they work well (and if it breaks after a few months it is inexpensive to replace). My only complain is that it doesn't fit over a gas burner very well.

    • @alb8758

    • @YaaLFH
      @YaaLFH Рік тому +1

      To solve the "doesn't fit over a gas burner very well" problem, you just need a gas ring reducer (sometimes also called moka pot support or hob trivet or something similar). I have one that looks like a small circle with four arms that go over the pan stand arms - this might actually be my most used kitchen gadget!

    • @thesteelrodent1796

      @@YaaLFH only ever seen those adapters for using spherical woks/pots on burners made for flat pots

    • @YaaLFH
      @YaaLFH Рік тому

      @@thesteelrodent1796 There are two different types:
      1. For woks and other pots/pans with rounded bottome - these have raised supports that keep the wok upright
      2. For small pots/pans like a moka pot (cafetiere) - these are flat and reduce the distance between the arms of the pot stand. They come in several designs but most popular are either a small circle with four arms going out that hook over the pot stand arms, or a larger circle with arms going in. I prefer the first style. Try using the keywords I mentioned in my previous comment and you should be able to find them - I can't post a link.

    I think my fav is the potato ones, while it seems less sturdy it has 2 good perks for me:

    For people who don't know, pronking is when a quadruped, usually a hooved one, springs into the air with all four legs simultaneously. (Bronies probably already know this, as it's Pinkie Pie's preferred method of locomotion.)

  • @slc1161

    Easiest way to mince garlic is to peel it by shaking several cloves in a jar with a lid. Take out the cloves only and transfer to either a plastic bag or place between two Saran Wrap sheets. Then use your meat tenderizer to pulverize them. Even easier is to put a bunch of peeled cloves into a food processor, start on low, then slowly drizzle just enough olive oil to slightly liquify the garlic. Take that garlic oil combo and either put it in a silicone mini ice tray or drop by teaspoons onto parchment on a cookie sheet and freeze. Once frozen, transfer to a freezer bag or jar. You now have the equivalent of pre measured garlic in one or two clove servings and keep in the freezer.

  • @Aevilbeast
    @Aevilbeast Рік тому +1

    Wait...Did my eyes deceive me or did Barry make a grilled cheese without buttering the bread beforehand?? That would definitely explain the burning and the lack of the signature toasty golden bread of a good grilled cheese sandwich. Also, one of the best things about the a grilled cheese IS the toasty buttery bread! For it me it makes the sandwich 100%!
    Now, I've known people that just add butter to the pan instead of actually buttering the bread, as a sorta hack to save a bit of time and effort, but IMO the best way to ensure a consistent golden toast through out is just to take the time to butter the bread evenly beforehand. (Heck, just to be safe throw a bit a butter on the pan as well, no such thing as too much butter lol)
    But I've got to say I've honestly never heard of anyone just not using any butter....except if they are using one of those electric sandwich maker things (sorta like a Foreman grill but for sandwiches) but even then, I recommend using some butter on them or else you're going to end up with regular toasted bread (which, hey some people prefer...No judging)

    The first item could also be used as a chip and dip server.

      If you’re referring to the Joseph-Joseph double bowl, you could also put the discards (shells, pits) in the top bowl and the edible bits (nuts, olives) in the bottom bowl.

      @@shvat26 True. It's a nice multipurpose set that stacks well.

    Level up your GRILLED CHEESE game: peal and slice an apple (my preference is Gala) and fry the slices in butter to soften (I add a dash of oil in the belief that it stops the butter from burning). Cover one side of two slices of bread with mayo (far superior to butter in this instance). Place one slice mayo side down in pan. Add fried apple, add a slice of processed "American" cheese (Easy Singles for those looking confused), perhaps top with a little more fried apple, then second slice of bread, obviously mayo side up...yup...never stuffed that step up...four times... Flip when the bottom is crispy, remove when the...Er...second bottom is crispy. Let sit a few minutes to cool. This step is MANDATORY. A mouthful of still frying-pan-hot apple and cheese hurts. Go on, ask me how I know... Slice and enjoy. Nomnomnom.

    The bowl would work really well with cherries.

    I'm so confused as to why you're using a knife to get the wedges off of the garlic. I just break them off. Hack for you 😅

    For the grilled cheese, you would be better off with a ridge onkey much easier. And yes I do make a square omelette in mi e.
