    Gavin is a genius. I have gone through so much on youtube but I actually think this Channel is all I need to improve my photography. Most people are showing that they are good, talking too much but teaching nothing. Gavin on the other hand - teaches you all you need to know. Very Quickly.

    If that's all you've taken away from this video Giuseppe, I urge you to watch the first 10 minutes again.
    This video is telling you that there are photos everywhere all you need to do is go out and find them. It's up to you how much post processing you do but what really matters is your ability to use your imagination, skills and may be a little luck :)

    You have no idea how happy I am that you asked that. I added the graffiti in Adobe After Effects CC using it's amazing 3D Tracking ability... which took considerably longer then 15 minutes to master ;-)

      i remember some of the first videos i saw of yours several years ago : i seemed to have finally seen what you were saying because so many gaps were being filled along the way over the years . it's like hiding and people can't see you, i couldn't have got it. it has been years of study now : it goes far beyond cameras also__ its all the things the camera is capturing that's apart of the photography_ what the camera is captures ! i feel blessed

    Guiseppe, ALL raw files need a certain amount of post-processing, how far you want to take it is entirely your choice. And if you shoot jpeg, the camera does the post-processing for you. Another top video, Gavin! Cheers.

    You get more noise on longer exposures and 10-15 mins is VERY long. You can reduce the colour noise in Lightroom / ACR in Photoshop. Jump over to the Detail section and increase the Color Noise Reduction slider.

    I enjoy these and I encourage my photography friends to do the 15 minute challenge. I've been doing them for a couple of years and it has made me a better photographer. And I also think Gavin needs to run at least once in every video, maybe slow it down and put a Chariots of Fire song behind it...Thank you Gavin for your video's.

  • @jaminthomas

    A lot of the famous photos old school photographers did dodging, burning, pushing, pulling and a host of other methods that is the equivalent of layers and filters that we have in pp software. Heck - even film choice was a post processing decision because that influenced the look and feel. You still needed the fundamentals. The key is - what is my vision when i took this pic?
    It is a FALLACY that the image at the point of capture (digital or film) is the purest way to express our vision.

    I always love your upbeat way of teaching. I also shoot Cannon, and the 60D has turned out to be my favorite because of the flip screen. It allows for some very interesting angles, and your not guessing at the shot because your seeing them with live view. Great , fun video Gavin !

  • @hudlmaniac7673
    @hudlmaniac7673 9 років тому +2

    Good to see a pro of your stature using a cropped sensor camera. I have a 60D as well. :)

  • @jaminthomas
    @jaminthomas 11 років тому

    I think for advanced amateurs and enthusiasts the 60D is a heck of a camera. It has just the right amount of pro features and capabilities for one to grow with. The articulated screen allows one to get shots that would have been much harder to get and makes self portraiture and group shots easier to do. I recommend to people who are buying their first dSLR to look hard @ the 60D @ current prices over any Rebel. Add Magic Lantern and that's gravy.
    The 70D has me thinking of upgrading though :-).

    This was a reminder in this video: learning how to see the world and scout it out for the photo : well it doesn't work like that in a way until you learn things thru experience, I wanted to capture a scene a landscape then realize it took skill to paint the picture in a photo : ___i mean it can take a long time to get the photo you thought you could get: if you don't know how to listen to a very good teacher : just taking a photo of the pier was a mountain to climb for me ? i still haven't taken it yet so i don't know if i can produce what i envision in my mind yet,_ if it's the right pier (real art)

    I know photos are out there, but I think that a good photographer doesn't really need to apply layers after it captures the image. At least in my opinion. Old school film photographers sure did not have much post processing softwares, but they really captured the moment. That's what I think: I too I can shoot at whatever, then get on the computer and apply filters. It's a kind of cheating for me. I prefer other things. :)

    • @victorcarmelo8606
      @victorcarmelo8606 6 років тому

      Thats cause you are a purist and you are wrong in parts of your post. I started photography in 1967 and even then you can see works of Sam Haskins and Bill Brand that superimpose negatives and colour slides in analogue just like doing digital layers and photoshop was not even a twinkle in it's father's eye back then. Ansel Adams made no less than 4 negatives out of his original negative "Moonrise, Hernandes, New Mexico 1945" and Andrea G Gillman who was his assistant in the 1970's said in her book "Looking at Ansel Adam'' that he could work all day in his wet/chemical darkroom processing just one image. You need to read the history of photography to understand where Photoshop got it's basis for processing images, the only difference is that back then it was Analogue and today.Digital photography and thats the only difference.

    lastly investigative photography looking for clues in a 15 minute : seeing what i could capture behind the lens vs an idea of what i want : which i feel means understanding the total scope of a concept then knowing how to articulate it in my photograph: i don't want to take lapis lazuli photos thinking I've saw God or something... .
