With the pruning of this tree it is way better looking
Hellfire Sam, brown snake! Bonsai on the edge...
Wicked tree! Glad you didn’t get the fangs! I came for the lesson, and the dribble! Love your stories! Keep’m coming🤠
Cheers mate
Beautiful tree. Nice work done on it by a cool bonsai master, Dr. Sam.
Really nice tree. My banksia seedlings are only about 10cm high.. I better start fertilising. Im glad you didnt get bitten while protecting the dogs :-D I assume the snake is territorial so it will still be there somewhere. I wonder if a trail cam would help keep an eye on where it goes so you can make it leave permanently. It would be nice not have to worry about the dogs and kids and be jumping at every sound.
Hopefully don't see it again 😬
Cheers mate! Good to see you’re still at it man. Haven’t seen any posts lately. Maybe it’s just been me.
I have been slack 😃
Another great video Sam - go the baby roll!😂😂 Love your work mate - the banksia is looking pretty cool!
Ha ha. Cheers mate 👍
I've got 6 banksias and I've always called the "fat rolls", the Pancake Effect because it looks like a stack of pancakes on a plate. I've got Banksia Serrata and Banksia Spinulosa which I'm really happy with. Laurie's looks like a Banksia integrifolia (coastal Banksia). I had 2 of them when I'd just started into bonsai, I grew from cuttings but I over pruned them and they died. The Serrata ones are really easy to grow I've found that the trunks fatten way quicker than the others. I really like them. Cheers and so nice to see Aussie natives getting a mention.
Thanks for the info Jim.
I have a marginata myself (I 🤔) and super fast grower it is
That tree is looking great! It looks nice and full compared to last year's trim! I'm so glad we don't have any deadly snakes where I live in Chicago! I'd always be looking over my shoulder and my dogs would be bit for sure! Thanks bloke!
Really has filled out 😀
Ha ha I'm scared of bears 🐻
Mountain lions 🦁
Did some research on why this tree is giving you trouble. U.S. forestry service tried planting tree seeds in Puerto Rico. Grew about 4 inches & died. Trying to help reforest a section. These trees Native to U.S., the seeds never grew over 4 inches. Just died. Then Mr. Huckenpahler brought in Native U.S. soil to the area & planted the seeds. Trees survived and grew. Why? Native U.S. Mycorrhizae introduced into the soil. Maybe if you take some of your native soil & mixed it with the bonsai soil, the Mycorrhizae might bring the tree around. Just a thought. Sorry for the long explanation.
Yeh soil bugs can be the decider for a tree for sure
I would definitely scream like a girl if there were venomous snakes here... That tree looks great though!! Glad the dogs were not bit and you are ok. You are the hero saving the dogs and the dogs are looking at you... But Dad... We just want you to throw the wiggle stick so we can fetch it. Great video Sam!
Ha ha yep they have no fear. 😏
Really enjoyed this video, thanks mate
Nioce one bloke!
Cheers bloke
👍👌👌🙂🙂
I to had to sell a kidney to pay a vet bill for my red cattle dog who thought he was faster than a redbelly. Those browns are really aggressive buggers and will come after you rather than trying to escape, and even worse i hear they like stout, that probably what drew them into the shed Sam. 😂🤣
Ha ha I was mid stout
Bugger mate. Tough when our little fellahs are struggling
What kind of moss do you recommend for the base?
Brown snake is the second most venomous snake on the planet. I myself have danced over the top of one while wearing thongs. I became superhuman and launched myself skyward from a one-legged hop into space instead of stepping on it.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 glad you also escaped those fangs 🤣
Same thing with a snake called a gwarder near Geraldton WA
Banksia can also get iron deficiency could be why it's yellowing
