Thanks Sam! I owe you a slab of beer. it’s a really nice little tree with lots of potential. Bit of info on the tree: 12 YO banksia. I didn’t re-potted it, so unfortunately it was naturally leaning back by whoever potted it last. When I did the major restyle, there were some knuckled branches with serious inverse taper that were mainly growing towards the front of the tree. That’s why there seems to be so much growth on the back. But with a bit of time, it’ll balance out nicely. Sorry I didn’t warn you about the wire earlier 😂
Thanks Sam Iv started one got it in a big pot getting some growth on it.. Iv named my blue staff Bankisa.it was funny everything you said it he looked at the TV thinking you were talking to him. Keep up the good work.
They grow like weeds here in northern NZ, usually into small trees. Currently got a nice yamadori in a box. They seem to shoot profusely from trunk chops, but other than that I am also learning how to deal with them. Main concern at the moment is root work, I need to reduce 3 big tripod roots down. Will have a go in spring and see what happens 😳
Banksias are members of the Proteacea family. Quite often they die in gardens because they can't handle the high phosphorus content in standard fertilisers.
Nice mate I hear the trick with banksia is to use native fertiliser don’t think they like phosphorus or one of the elements feeding them the regular fert may kill them
If that wire bit in that much in 2 months, it will take no time at all to grow out again - he need never know 🤪🤫 Is that a serrata, or an integrifolia? I am sure I have seen flowers and cones on bonsai - just need to keep it away from any flowering gums to protect Snugglepot and Cuddlepie!
Hard to tell you're sweating about working on the tree when you're already sweating from the mildly warmer temperatures there, than we have in Canada...🤨 Well done! That is a nice not your tree!😅
