  • As very kindly sent to me by the great man himself, here is the rarest of Phil Kachaturian's six songs from the original 1974 action film "Gone in 60 Seconds". Played over its place in the film. For some reason I thought this was called "Low Rider", but it is in fact "Boob Tube Blues"!

I love the original 1974 film, and I was profoundly disappointed when the re-release jettisoned all of Phil Kachaturian's great songs. Now I can hear the lyrics for the first time. "Outasight Walter Cronkite"? I never knew! That's priceless!

I was 24 when I started college in 2004, just bought my first Mustang that year. A black '04. I was watching this on a VHS tape I had gotten in the '90s. Some of my floor mates had no idea what I was watching so they sat down and watched. First they thought it was weird, then they got into it. I have always liked the music. My floor mates were disappointed this was not available on CD nor was the soundtrack on the DVD. Anyway, THANK YOU for sharing this jem!

"The dog is in the house again, Harold... Get the dog out of the house! Harold: nag nag... Wife: the dog tracked mud in the house. Take him out! Harold: women, they're all nuts! Wife: Don't slam the door! Stay out there with him."

I was looking for this song for 30+ years. I saw the movie in the early 70's, and for me it's still one of the best and most memorable movies ever. THANKS shnorth888!

The January 7, 1974 copyright title for this song is "7 O'Clock News"

That's correct, although the great man Phil called it "Boob Tube Blues" when we talked about it so I stuck with that.

    Now THAT is rare!
So if there's a song called "Low Rider" in the film, it has to be the instrumental playing when the Cadillac guys appear.
    Thanks for sharing!

I've always been curious about Phil Kachaturian. I first saw Gone in 60 Seconds on VHS over 30 years ago, I like his music in the original soundtrack, and swear I had heard of him before I saw the film but I cannot find any other references to the man. Who is/was he, what was his career outside of these six songs?

I'd love to get the lyrics to this song....they're so relevant now! And any idea how to get just the instrumentals of this and "Big Town"?
