The film is not a biography of the Saint, but comprises eleven episodes, taken from the Fioretti, in which the spirit of the Franciscan reform reveals itself.
A brief period in the life of the first Franciscan community is illustrated, from the return of St. Francis from Rome to the separation of the disciples, sent to preach the word of God throughout the world; several paintings reproducing frescoes depicting the life of St. Francis serve as an introduction

I remember seeing this when I was about 7 or 8 in the late 1970s on a local tv broadcast station (maybe NYC Channel 5 or WABC 7) on a rainy summer afternoon. believe it not, we saw a better class of movies on television before cable and VCRs. The commercials were annoying sometimes, but you would be surprised at the quality of films local tv stations played in those days. Not anymore.
