EVIL DOES NOT EXIST - Official US Trailer

- In the rural alpine hamlet of Mizubiki, not far from Tokyo, Takumi and his daughter, Hana, lead a modest life gathering water, wood, and wild wasabi for the local udon restaurant. Increasingly, the townsfolk become aware of a talent agency’s plan to build an opulent glamping site nearby, offering city residents a comfortable “escape” to the snowy wilderness. When two company representatives arrive and ask for local guidance, Takumi becomes conflicted in his involvement, as it becomes clear that the project will have a pernicious impact on the community. Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s follow up to his Academy Award®-winning DRIVE MY CAR is a foreboding fable on humanity's mysterious, mystical relationship with nature. As sinister gunshots echo from the forest, both the locals and representatives confront their life choices and the haunting consequences they have.

“A little pollution won’t affect the water” sounds like something a developer would say? lol
Funny, isnt it?
They make all the developing countries follow the rules, thus increase cost, yet they themselves violate the rules.
more accurate, word to word translation of that line woud be something like "you say pollution, but the water here would stil be clearer than in the city"
You wrongly understood.
@@eleethtahgra7802 Stop countries from increasing their populations, and you won't have to worry about property developers.
@@sigmacademy LOL, so we in developing countries have to suffer so u guys in first world countries could live comfortably?
Ends with a mythical mic drop? The Great Forest Spirit gonna stomp the hell out of those glampers.
I hope so!
We can only hope!
Totorozilla!
"Only YOU can stomp out glampers." - Smokey The Bear
If it was an A24 movie I would expect exactly that. Some evi forest spirit like a leshy, evil pagan god of blood and nature or something.
Incredible cinematography. My goodness.
gotta watch drive my car bro
Wild that "a little pollution won't affect the water." is a real line of dialogue.
The literal translation is more like "even with a little pollution, it'll be cleaner than water in the city." Which sounds more 'diplomatic' and less brash than the translated sentence but also not very suitable to keep pace in the translation for readers. But the essence is the same, the speaker doesn't care and is trying to convince the locals that their proposal is not a big deal.
eco fable is so cringe.
Nuclear power plants all over the world are actually releasing tonnes of contaminated water they use for cooling reactors into the ocean every year. Their reasoning is the same as this. Minimising the perceived negative effect of something is the first move any company gives.
@@cagneybillingsley2165 An edge lord. Wow. 😑
@@silvermainecoons3269 A cliche. Wow.
Seen it twice, and it's brilliant. Even divorcing yourself of the eco-fable or concept of evil (which are both compelling), it does an amazing job at conveying the idea that it is during the quiet peaceful moments that preventative action is most needed. It also conveys the different perspectives (and human flaws) that prevent easy solutions. The end will be divisive, but I couldn't stop thinking about it.
wait, how have you seen it (twice??) already???? :0 did you work on the film or something lol?
@@eldritchbidoof Haha, no, I'm in the UK. Saw it at a film festival last year and at the cinema this year
eco-fable is the opposite of compelling
Me too. Saw it at LIFF. Easily my favourite film of the festival.

Looking forward to this release.
This film may have the most beautiful film score I’ve ever heard.
As someone who lives in a beautiful rural setting that has become overrun with subhuman "glamping" developments, this might make me to furious to watch, but I am sure it is great!@
Maybe you'll feel vindicated lol
what do you mean subhuman? why do you dislike the camping sites?
@@koledolores Because we live in a historically agricultural village that (since COVID, like most of Canada) has seen a sudden explosion in property value. As such, all varieties of developers, foreign investment groups, scammers, influencers, schemers, ultra rich people, etc have annexed most of the province and what was once tranquil, small, quiet, and largely undesirable rural areas is now teaming with some of the worst, most entitled, evil examples of our species that I have ever had the misfortune of meeting.
Seeing bulldozers rip up farm land for condos, airbnb mansions, glamping sites and Starbucks is not something that someone who is generally a bit of a societal outcast, like myself, really wants to ever experience/ live through. But I also understand that these people represent the greater/ general public, and that I am by FAR in the minority on my distain for the "development, no matter what, at all costs" way of life that seems to dominate most places these days. Give me back my utterly worthless, undesirable rural community any day...

One minute you're just minding your business, the next minute some random company wants to build a guramping site in your village. o_O
Honestly that’s how it is irl.
guramping?
you mean glamping.
@@zoned7609 I mean guramping.
@@MrSporkster that's not a real word. Glamping is. It's a combination of glamour and camping.
Guramping just sounds like a Japanese person failing to say glamping correctly and transposing their L's and R's and adding unnecessary syllables.

Congratulations, you got it.
Those first notes of the trailer gave me “In The Nature of Daylight” by Max Richter feelings. Immediately pulled me in.
Yea me too
The best film I saw in 2023. It is a must watch, and the ending is insane. I definitely think that ending is going to be a great point of discussion when this releases. Also the sounds of the film are amazing.
Reminds me of Charisma (1999), one of my favorite films and an eco thriller, can't wait.
Never heard of that. I'll have to check it out. I've been interested in eco thrillers lately.

mythical mic drop: Miyazaki shows up and transforms the glampers into trees and shrubs
Imagine not showing 9/10ths of the movie events in the trailer. All shown up to 1:04 was intriguing enough
this looks like it will break my heart...
Films like this give me hope that cinema isn't dead yet. Amongst all the Marvel and reboot trash there is still hope
That's just Hollywood. If you try delving into foreign movies, you'll be surprised at the gems you get. Have you tried, say, 3 Idiots or Every Child Is Special for example? Both Indian movies, but are absolutely wonderful. Prisoner in Cell 7 is a super touching Korean movie too. Etc, etc.
So other people want to be entertained? You wanna take their choice away. We get it. 😅😅😅

Man i hate this notion that cinema is dead. Chill tf out its not we literally had an amasing year from 2023 and good films are still coming out

A wonderful, original and beautifully crafted film. I saw this last year. The description of the ending as a ‘mythical mic drop’ is spot on.

Envious of the cinematography.
Feels like a metaphor for Japanese government's dumping of radioactive water into the sea

What a good looking trailer
i've got to see this!~
May 3rd.

What is the name of the music in the trailer
The composer is Eiko Ishibashi, soundtrack not released yet.

Thank-you. 03/05 isn't a date. YYYY-MM-DD is the only valid date format in my book.
That Mitsubishi Pajero 4 was awesome
what is a glamper?
So is the water not freezing supposed to indicate the presence of a chemical in the water that prohibits freezing? I just saw a video recently about how sailors would sometimes use fish oil to calm waves in places. If so I think that’s got great storytelling potential.

I love forests. Unfortunately in Europe all forests were cut down or replaced for industrial wood growing (except the last forest, in Rumania, which is cut down right now, huge profits)
that is heartbreaking
There are quite some forests in Europe.
Love seeing trailers WITHOUT bass drops
Oh but absolutely does.
Whoever came here expecting this to be a horror movie, slap a like please. Thank you.
it reminds me of minari, a little bit
Okay?
I remember a bunch of couples that tried to cycle around the world, said this too.
Got chopped up with machetes.
The sad part was it kept happening. It was, like, three sets of couples. All butchered like animals.
Remember kids: evil exists and is VERY real.
Lots of machete murders of good people. must be terrifying, but still probably better than getting beat up by a gorilla.
