Today on our 2015 Honda CR-V, we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the CURT custom-fit class three 2 inch trailer hitch. This is part number C13119. Here's what the hitch looks like once you get it installed. It's a nice, soft round tube. It cuts off sharply right at the end so you don't have a full width kind of a look behind you. This is going to be a class three, so we've got a 2 inch by 2 inch opening, and a 5/8 inch pin hole.
It's going to allow us to use a lot of the accessories, anti-rattle bolts, hitch pin locks, things like that. This is going to offer a 350 pound tongue weight rating and a 3500 pound gross trailer weight rating. You will want to look into the owner's manual on the CR-V. Just make sure that they can handle it. If not, go off of whatever of those numbers are the lowest. For installation, there's going to be no drilling required.
You will have to trim the appearance panel on the bottom a little bit, but really, if you have got a razor knife and a pair of scissors, you will have that taken care of. The class 3 hitch works great with just about anything you want to put in it, hitch cargo carriers, ball mounts, bike racks. If you go with a class 3 hitch, it's not going to be really that much more expensive than a class 1 or a class 2, but you'll have a lot less limits as far as what accessories you can attach. Now a couple of measurements are going to be helpful in selecting your ball mount, bike rack, or maybe hitch cargo carrier. We'll be from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, we've got about 14 1/4 inches.
From the center of our hitch pin hole to the outer-most edge of our bumper, it's about 2 1/4. We have the option to remove our under body panel here, or we can leave it on our vehicle and trim it that way. That's typically the easiest way. As you can see, it's already been trimmed once here. This was for .. Our customer had a class 1 hitch on his car.
He doesn't like the class 1 hitch. He wants to move up to the class 3 to get more capacity, so we're going to enlarge this slightly to allow that hitch to go into place. What we're going to do is come from our tow hook slot right here over 16 1/2 inches. Let's make a mark. Be right there on this rib that runs down. Now from there, we're going to come over 3 1/4 inches, which is going to bring us right to this rib, right here. We've got that marked. We've got this one marked. Now from our location where we've got the push pin fastener, we're going to measure from that forward an inch and a half, which is going to put us about right here. From there, we'll go 7 inches. Right into this area. We're going to go up this rib to here over to this rib. Right there. All of this will be taken out. Let's bring in our utility knife, is what I like to cut the panels with it. It does a good job. Just make sure your blade is sharp. It'll slide right through there for you. We'll follow that rib up to here. Now let's make our corner. As you can see, it's just going to push right in. Then we'll just follow our lines. All right. Now we'll just take a pair of scissors, and we're going to cut out the foam or the batting that's behind it. Now what I like to do is just kind of trim this back just inside of our cut line. That way, we won't have anything kind of hanging out or flopping around as we're heading down the road. Since this did have that class 1 hitch, I'm going to bring this edge over and soften that up so it doesn't catch any wind as we're going down the road. Just like that'll be perfect. Then what we can do is just take a little bit of black spray paint. I like to, you can see it's done here. I just like to hit that batting with it. A, it's going to get rid of the white mark, but B, it'll kind of almost act as a glue and it'll keep that stuff from really spreading or coming out as the wind hits it. Our next step is going to be lower our exhaust slightly. We need to get to our weld nuts up there. What we're going to do is take a little bit of spray lubricant. Just kind of hit each one of them. It's going to help us slide those off a little easier. Sometimes you can grab them and just kind of pull them off. Sometimes you will need . You can see that one came off good. That's the one you want to do first. Then we'll pull the exhaust over to do our next one. Sometimes you will need like a pry bar or something to get them started. Just push from the back side. Just like that. That'll give us a little bit of extra room to get in there to our weld nuts. Now for each one of those, we're also going to do a little bit of spray lubricant. Then we're going to hit them with our nylon tube br

Thanks for the great instructions. Took about 1 hour to do this. Would not have been able to release those muffler clips without the Blast all purpose lubricant and your great instructions on using a pry bar.

I like the fact that you pay attention to detail but you really need to wear safety glasses.
