Jungkook is literally the most sexualized idol since 2013 till today

You're so right. I really hate when I read comments directed to Kpop idols that are weird and creepy. When ppl post about their obsession and treat them as if they own them and have a right to say how they should live. These ppl should get a life of their own.

the time I fully realized this fandom has this problem was during Boys Planet. I know a lot of people liked Ricky because he's funny, and I definitely enjoy his sense of humor as much as the next person. I'm sure he's also very talented. I don't follow ZB1, so I wouldn't really know. But it was odd to see people commenting on how attractive they think he is when they were much older than him. I believe he was eighteen at least, but I feel like a lot of people can relate to the feeling of being sexualized at eighteen because it was suddenly "okay." I definitely remember hating that I couldn't say anything about my age anymore. This also isn't to say he can't try a sexy concept. I support him doing as he chooses, but I think older fans need to also realize a guy reaching eighteen is not their opportunity to objectify him. Like I can recognize he's conventionally attractive without making it weird. Comprehend his age and maybe take a few steps back if there is a huge difference.

With Boys Planet I was more worried about Yujin, who is still underage in the group. With Mnet shows, it's easy to see when the editing is made to sexualize a child. Yujin was constantly being called young and also being called mature and sexy in the show, which is how Mnet tries to normalize sexualizing children.
Ricky was young, but he was an adult and I personally think his own image was that he was sexy and charming. The show never mentioned his age because he was an adult and it was fine if he was sexy, so it wasn't shocking or weird. However, Yujin had that put onto him by the judges and the audience.
I think Ricky wasn't an example of oversexualizing idols because he is comfortable with that image and he is an adult who chose that image for himself as an idol, but Yujin was obviously an example of a minor being forced into a sexy position by adults. Yujin seems more comfortable with cuter concepts, but even when he does cute concepts it feels like he is being sexualized, it makes me so uncomfortable.

@@Molly-iw1rc that's fair! I didn't watch the show or follow ZB1, so I don't really know about Yujin. I just saw everyone's reactions to Ricky on twitter, and I thought it was strange when people who really were much older than Ricky were making strange comments. My issue has much less to do with him or even how Mnet treated him and more to do with the age gaps between him and some of the people who were commenting on him. So I guess my problem here isn't rooted in the industry but just the fandom.

I don't know if it's because I've had informed consent drilled into my mind from childhood, but even with idols from groups like KARD or Monsta X, where all the members are like 7 years my senior, it would still never cross my mind to post a comment with things like "choke me d*ddy" or "step on me m*mmy"... because the other person can not consent to me sexualising them and making such comments aimed towards them. So to me, doing that to someone who is younger than me, or even worse, a minor, is just appalling. But how do we go about changing this and make the entertainment, specifically idol, industry safer? Because calling out each individual on a post with 20k comment seems like a never ending task...

I will NEVER not think of Niki when we talk about sexualizing young idols, specifically males. But literally throughout kpop this is a common occurrence and both men and women participate in sexualizing young men in kpop. It's unsafe for children to be in this industry when it's still normal for celebrities to sexualize them without backlash.

The fans should take this seriously because it might be a fun comment to them but the idols may not feel ok and the idol probably won't when the idol reads how the idol is perceived. According to me fans should keep their fantasies locked up in their mind instead of sexualizing the idols like this especially in an industry liks k-pop with so many minors.

i think fever was pretty crazy for enhypen to be coming out with when ni-ki was a straight-up teenager because those lyrics are actually...wow- ,but to be fair, sunoo was the one who sang that line of sweet venom that you mentioned at the beginning of the video

I guess that's how it's always going to be...IDK really.
I read an article (actually a study though) about how female idols are thought to only be the good girls, when they do something wrong that's inappropriate of them and it stated male idols,as far as they are concerned they are males and can get away with anything. I think it's because of how South Korea views men and women and according to the article (I'm paraphrasing now) MEN ARE THE MAJORITY AND THEY ARE IMPORTANT AND WOMEN ARE LESS IMPORTANT. The thing is they have expectations for both males and females, funny enough, when a female idol or group chooses to 'switch things up' they are said to be 'feminist' or to be 'bad influences on young people'
All in all though it's just all for profit (I mean sexualizing male idols).
Hope I didn't digress. Thank you.

you actually didn’t disagree. It was kind of my point because sexualization of male ifold kind of falls onto the norm of manly men kind of trope where else, as I said, the double standard kind fall onto the female idol where they’re supposed to be the shy nice one
like Jenny is a prime example of when you have a baddest image people are going to come at your necks and that’s the same reason why i kinda wanna make one on female sexualization because I feel like it’s kind Of a weird difference between the two of these and
I feel like yeah definitely the patriarchal rules kind of play onto this definitely

@@Hoshining Pls do the female sexualization video. Also in my opinion, ideas (a person is raised with or develops) or societal views also affect the gender preference (dare I say). But sadly things are never going to change. From what I've seen, these cases (of over sexualization) cause some fans to form parasocial bonds and relationships which lead to crazy behaviors and also some sort of physical and mental harm to male (and female) idols. What I'm trying to say is: THIS ENDS UP AFFECTING THE IDOL AND THE FAN ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.

Instead of off handedly blaming fans...the companies are the ones directing the idols to "mature" behaviors. Idols are employees being paid by companies...at the end of the day these are people who chose this "lifestyle" and are used to make money...plain and simple. Underage Idols shouldn't even be debuting but there is a market for it and companies with def push that line...for $$$$$. If people stop buying things...companies would pull back on spicy concepts. People can ask other people to stop commenting on certain things (not spending money is where actual change will occur)...but from styling, spicy concepts, super super spicy dance moves and lyrics...companies are looking for spicy reactions...because it pays their bills.

I feel uneasy with minors doing sexy comcept in a pro setting because is a place where the fan, minors and adults, where trained and extimulated to behave objectifing the idols.
Even if a member or group dont use more sexy: outfitts, lyrics or dance moves; it will happen, due the nature of the stabilished fan culture.
Even in other fan cultures like movies, TV series and cartoons the objetification still happens but not all their producers incentive and market their work / characters / actors for this niche use.
I have seen a few adult male idols that refuse to show more skin, in groups that others do.
I find admirable that male idols can have this choice while females dont.
But being in a group that do this type of fan service makes them "next in the line in fan' s mind" to do it, because their choice isnt included on the performances only in a few intreview snipets.

I think the sexualization of the female idols is far worse than with the boy bands. At least BTS doesn't have to show their thighs and bellies all the time.
