- Today we take a look at the 300 from Cometa, a fantastic looking budget rifle that seems to tick all of the boxes on paper but can it do the same down range? There's only one way to find out!

My dad had one about 12 years ago. A tough heavy tank of a rifle, a kick but plenty accurate and hard hitting. I wasn't crazy about the trigger, but it's probably all been updated by now. Its nice to support a smaller European manufacturer like Cometa.

Last time, approx. 2 weeks ago, I asked your opinion on the Fenix 400, this is the one I'd like to see you review next, if at all possible.
I ask this for two reasons, first because you asked what we'd like,.. and second, I took your advice and couldn't wait, I ordered the Fenix Fusion Premium Star
about 10 days ago, I should have it in my hands within the next 2 days ( hopefully ).
I did a lot of checking up on the Cometa line of air rifles and after chatting at some length with the Dealer I picked, I placed the order.
Now 'the cake's in the oven',.. we'll see soon if I made the correct buying decision. At this point, I think I did.

They're brilliant aren't they? I was originally concerned about the non-adjustable trigger but mine was absolutely spot on out of the box. Where accuracy was concerned it was fantastic. I love the looks of the thing too, its genuinely turned into one of my favourite springers.

Thanks for the revue , the Cometa 300 certainly looks to be good value for the money and with accuracy as good as that with flat head pellets at 35 yards it and only a couple of hundred slugs down the pipe things certainly look promising when its really run in , who knows it might even get into the single digit spread . Personally I'd like to see the Fenix 400 next on the list ,but I don't mind seeing a PCP next as long as You do the 400 after that ( variety is the spice of life !) Keep up the good work , catch You next video . Shoot Straight Stay Safe & Stay Well .

Thanks for the feedback mate I'm glad you enjoyed it. The Cometa's are excellent and the overall build quality and feel on them is superb. Even the triggers are excellent.
I don't stock BSA at the moment otherwise I'd love to get some reviewed. As it is I can only take a look at them if they cross my path like with the Superten and the Goldstar.
I did have an old Airsporter but then some bugger came and bought it haha.

@@bigdansairguns83 Hello Dan, after your review am after a Cometa 300 in .177 unfortunately they are impossible to find in this country brand new in .177, I've tried 9 different places including all the big companies like Drapers, Pellpax and Shooting Targets, the best I've been offered is an ex display but I turned it down, it has to be brand new, unused and never taken out of the box, am I right in thinking you sell Airguns ? If so do you have a BRAND NEW Cometa 300 in .177 never used and never taken out of the box ?

Cometa spring rifles are really good for for the price! By far better than all this cheap chinese products!
Cheap Chinese I have been shooting HW rifles and there very good do just got a change I bought 5 smk rifles the xs38 the Db3 Db5 and 2 B2 one in 177 and one in 22 as with the rest in 22 and I was like you but I was in for a shock they hate cheap pellets and then scoped in and the triggers are not to bad not a Hw trigger but not far off no tangs or. Bongs do stripped the b2 down so easy to do then not a metal spring guide and so a bit further piston seal not leather improvement that's why they shoot very well I have room for one more a xs36 so there not crap or shite

Nice to hear you're having fun with your air rifles! If you're collecting them, just give a cometa a try! A review is of course about a out of the box condition!
I might like the look of the rifle and great pellets I use hobby pellets and up 35yards there very go great groups but I will use them in side to remove farm pigeons

Based on this video, iv just ordered one of these, I have a 97k and a 95k but want to try something new, and for the money £140!!! What's to lose. Well worth a punt. Cant wait to open it. Thanks for the vid.
If you can tinker m8 the trigger tune is the best thing to do,the barrels are cold forged like bsa's .22 love rws superfield.
I preferred the 300s handling to the 95,I'm certain you'll like it!
@@stevep9739 Hi Steve, since getting it, I have had it apart a few times to try and reduce the twang, I actually bought a delrin spring guide for a cometa100 cut in down and used it as a top hat, it has made some difference, I have not touched the trigger but will definitely have ago at it. I have two Cometa 300 and a 220 for my youngest. And they all like RWS Superdomes & Super fields and Crosman premier ultra magnums. There great through Night vision.

Mine didn't like the Superfields so much but those Meister's were incredible. I'll need to try a tin of Ultra Magnums next time maybe for the Fenix review. I'm really loving these Cometas they're such an underappreciated brand.
Their Fusion Star is a nice rifle, I have the .22 with a walnut stock, very smooth with an excellent trigger unit

Just got a 300s carbine secondhand,think of it as a 300 usc!
Clearly left in a barn to rot judging by the smell of it's gun bag.
Surface rust cleaned off no pitting doesn't need any blueing as it's perfect.
Spripped,cleanedand relubed added 3 1mm delrin washers,powers up from 10ftlb to 10.9ftlb with superdomes 10.7ftlb with it's favourite rws superfield.
What a gun,so easy to work on, I call it the spanish weihrauch,much nicer handling than any HW I've ever had.
£110 with a hawke sport hd 4x32(which is now on my relum zephyr),now swapped out for the hawke sport hd 3-9x40 off my parker hale striker.
The best scope I've had with the best springer I've had, definitely a keeper.
I had one of the earlier versions of the Cometa 300 carbine with the silencer. It was fun to use and looked very pretty. I took a few conies with it, but I hated the old single-stage trigger it had back then. It was also a bit of a pain to cock, with its short barrel. Now it has a new trigger, I might take another look at it. :-)

I haven't had the (dis?)pleasure of shooting the older 300 but I'll try to get my mitts on one to experience that trigger. It could make an interesting video looking at how Cometas have improved over the years.
The new rifle has a non adjustable trigger but hopefully you could see from the video it's a lovely two stage unit now with a light pull and zero creep on the second stage.

I love to shoot with springers, but with a bad experience with a Browning leverage 1.77 i turned to PCP.
I was thinking to take a gas ram gamo maximm 5.5 10 quick shoot ,but i like ed the cometa 300..

The Cometa is an excellent little gun. The Gamo's aren't bad but I'll confess I've not shot one of their gas rams yet.
They certainly require a bit more finesse than a PCP but the payoff once you master it is worth it.

7:55 my HW 77k´s but the .177 did got a layer from a beer can between the spring coil and the aloi tube. Quiet like a dead man ;)

My thoughts exactly mate. When I go into reviews with rifles in this price point I'm always more sceptical than maybe I should be as the competition here is if anything more fierce than with the premium gear. What with the Pest Controllers, Hatsans, Sabres and the Express rifles etc which are all cracking rifles. That being said although I'm yet to test the Hatsans I fell in love with this one maybe even more than I did with the Sabre.
It ticks all the right boxes and you get a lifetime warranty to go with it. How on earth do you top that for under £200??

Oh...When I hear /read 300 (not the movie ) my memories come up ! I owned a " Hähnel Mod. 300 " as I was 12 years old, given from my dad , and id was a great little " brake barrel " If you have any chance to get hands on one... grab it !!!!!!! It´s wert it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the 80´ I sold it to my uncle .He lived in west germany and want to have west german money . I´v got 90,- DM /45 € .
I sold my soul with this gun ! I do hardly try to get one to buy but it issn´t easy to find one .

It's always the way mate, the amount of times I've sold a rifle and then the next day regretted it.
The Haenels are excellent rifles mate I've wanted to review a 300 for a while now. They aren't quite so well known in the UK but everyone that owns them says about how good they are. They're an interesting looking thing that's for sure!

Yes, they are great after break in time, and slight trigger adjustment., I just ordered my 3rd Cometa yesterday.

Great review, I have purchased one myself as a backup rifle. I do feel it is a bit noisy when cocking and the trigger could be a bit lighter. Also the screws tend to loosen up after a small shooting session. On the other end one must remember it is a budget rifle but nevertheless it is quite powerful and has great precision which are some of the main atributes of an air rifle, plus it looks good :) Could you also review the cometa 220 compact? Thanks

Great review Dan. I’m currently considering one of these but other contenders are the SMK XS20, Hatsann Mod 55/60, BSA meteor and Stoeger X20. Which would you go for?!
Hi mate.
That's a tough question as the rifles you've listed are excellent. The Hatsan is great off a rest or from the shoulder as long a you don't mind a heavier rifle. The trigger is also good but takes a bit of adjusting out of the box. The SMK has a pretty great trigger out of the box with my only criticism being that some can be a bit twangy.
The X20 sort of sits in the middle but the trigger is the worst of the three.
The Cometa is a tad lighter than the Hatsan and although the trigger isn't adjustable it's comfortably better than the Stoeger and rivals the SMK. Regarding accuracy I'd give it to the Cometa plus it'll last you a lifetime. The only thing is you need to see if you can shoot one first as if by chance you don't like the trigger then you'd unfortunately be stuck with it. All of them we've had in have been superb however.
Regarding the BSA Meteor I can't give any advice I'm afraid as I've yet to shoot one but they're a good looking rifle.

I literally only got it yesterday and put a few pellets through it in my garage. Will be taking it to a local farm for some proper shooting tomorrow. So far I’m very impressed

.22's on average will definitely have a smoother shot cycle than a .177. Many prefer them as it makes the rifle a bit more user friendly where recoil is concerned. Thanks Lesley!
Purchase my 300 a few months ago, can’t help but notice the similarities with the Gamo/BSA barrel , particularly the plastic cocking aid. Makes me wonder if Cometa are using a Gamo barrel and perhaps other components or maybe Cometa are just a subsidiary of Gamo.
Cometa 300 is a nice gun but I’m not keen on the trigger or the ball bearing barrel latch but it’s a lovely looking rifle and pretty decent quality for a budget item. I have found that the barrel does go rusty whilst not in use, so I have to keep it well oiled. Nice review 👍

All barrels will go rusty if they aren't oiled enough especially in the heat as your hands contain salt when you sweat.
Cometa are actually older than Gamo being one of the oldest airgun manufacturers on the planet, they don't have any affiliation with Gamo being a completely family run company. The barrel is also their own and you can find videos on their facebook page of them assembling/creating the barrel. Interesting stuff.
Use Balistol, it won't rust even in a humid environment.
What scope did you use on this review. I didn’t catch the name or model of scope. By the way. Love the reviews and this is a sweet shooter. I live across the big pond and am seriously considering one of these. I love my Weihrauchs though.

The scope used was a Konus Pro 3-9x32AO. Fantastic little scopes and incredibly well made, the reticle is an ultra fine engraved duplex which I absolutely love.

That's a difficult one. If you're in the UK simply due to the warranty I'd chose the M25. If you're abroad however it's a difficult one.
The M25 has the better trigger and stock if you're going synthetic vs synthetic and I personally found the action sweeter. Regarding accuracy I'd say that the Alpha was less pellet fussy but they're both as accurate as eachother once you find the right pellet.
The Alpha does however have the power adjuster which works far better abroad than in the UK which could help sway it and I did like the Alpha's wooden stock too.
Shot count wise the M25 was superior though and it's if anything even quieter than the Alpha.
I can't really choose between them but I hope this helps.

The muzzle report is very quiet and the action itself isn't bad at all as you could hopefully hear in the video. You'd need to remove the shroud on the end of the barrel which I'd imagine is epoxied on, it's definitely removeable but you'll need a heat gun to weaken the resin down. Some say hair dryers work just as well though. With that gone you can put a silencer on there no problems at all either with an adaptor or a slip on affair.

Oh that one is definitely coming.. once we get the Fenix done we're immediately moving onto the big boy. We've had a few guys come down to test fire the Fusions on the range and they've all been incredible. Rest assured mate it'll be done.

For the Fenix 400 and the Fusion there is a mount arrestor hole/recess. I don't think it's the case for the 300 however at the moment.
Either that or "I'm going.. slightly mad..".

Its spanish and does 11.1 ftlb here in the uk with the pellets dans using,but can do 20 ftlb if fitted with a stronger spring like it is in spain.
I've had 2 of these and they are really good.

Shot the old one, fenix was better. Triggers are better then the bsa spring guns.

a great review and a very nice rifle but that lump of plastic on the end of the barrel is a no no to me why its awful and I will not buy one it's a nice rifle why could they not make out of metal
I hate fiber optics!! 50 yds " I " can not see my "POA" It´s just a guess !! The good "german and the enlish iron open sites" is the way to keep !! You know , sharp and klear with or without a tunnel over the "beep" !

As Total has said they're genuinely superb and criminally underappreciated in the UK. I'd put the Cometa 400 Ultra Short Carbine against any Weihrauch out of the box and the Fusion from what I've experienced is beautiful to shoot too.
The PCP's are fantastic too. I'm hoping to bring Cometa into the limelight a little as they deserve to be so much better known in the UK.
Nice review, I've got the older first version? if this gun heavy hitting and quite precise, looking for a new sight as the Simmons one I got with it is a bit shot, can you recommend a nice cheap on or a worth the money big3that 4x20? Cheers Dan
