    I recently purchased my first Cometa, a Fenix 400 USC Premier Star, in .177. Everything you said is true, Dan. Trigger easily made excellent, balance excellent, weight excellent, accuracy excellent for under $400 U.S. I'm so happy with this rifle that I have ordered the .25 Fenix USC and should have it in my mitts by the end of next week. I am really looking forward to working with it -- and this being the Colonies, it should be running about 18 foot-pounds. Thanks for a very thorough review.

    Cometa are truly some of the best valued springers in the market. I currently own a Fenix 400 (.177 standard barrel), and I also have a spare .22 caliber Fusion barrel that I can easily swap for the fenix barrel. I love having the option of two barrels. And just the other day, I ordered a .177 Fusion with a nice wood stock (plus a .22 Fenix barrel). In the U.S., the place to purchase Cometa is from Airforce International. Unfortunately they don't have the compact or USC barrels. Watching your videos compelled me to purchase (excellent job, sir. I bet their sales are up due to your youtube reviews). I agree with you regarding the triggers and overall quality. Beautiful air rifles with a long history. How about doing a review one of these days on the Cometa Indian pistol? It's a unique one, that's for sure. Your channel is great, much appreciated your willingness to take the time to make them.

      Hey Mguffin!
      Brilliant post mate and my thoughts exactly, they really are such an underrated brand and it goes to show you don't need to buy a German rifle (or spend German rifle money) to get something genuinely brilliant. I was going to look into the little Indian but they're discontinued in the UK unfortunately. A shame as most who had them say they're an incredibly accurate little pistol.
      Thanks Mguffin for the suggestion and be sure to nag Airforce International into importing USC's.. they won't regret it.

    You tricked me into getting a few Cometa guns after watching some of your earlier reviews and I think they're awesome!

      Bwahahaa gotcha Henk!
      They're such an underrated brand aren't they? This is why I've gone out of my way as of late to push them into the spotlight as they're every bit as good if not better than most of the premium stuff. Although it's a PCP I'm incredibly tempted to try the Cometa Orion Gold... the comments could be very interesting just because of the looks!

      Thanks Anthony it means a lot! I'm adding some rifles to your bucket list if you don't mind haha. The Fenix Carbine or Ultra Short Carbine, and the Fusion. They're some of the nicest rifles I've ever shot and they shoulder beautifully, even the big ol' Fusion handles more like a light/medium weight rifle than the large target gun that it is. No idea how they've done it.... Spanish black magic maybe!
      Thanks Anthony!

    Over 50yrs I’ve shot and owned most brands of springers even though, because I hunt, my main guns are top of range pre-charged. However, for sheer uncomplicated enjoyment I’ve always had one or two springers in the cabinet and currently that is the Fenix 400 USC and it’s a “keeper”. I’ve done all the big names in the springer world including the custom/tuned versions and I still prefer this gun to any of them. The firing cycle is uncannily quiet and pleasant to shoot and with its adjustable laminate stock it’s just my go to garden, target range gun, when I’ve had enough of all the unrelenting bad news on the tv. I’ve had .25 springers before but those selling them didn’t do their due diligence in terms of pellet choice but you did or may be there is more choice now🤷‍♂️. A .25 in this gun would be hard to resist.
    Great video and I’m glad you abandoned the accuracy test in high winds - it would have proved absolutely nothing. Great stuff.

    • @bigdansairguns83
      @bigdansairguns83  Рік тому +1

      Hi Graham!
      Brilliant post and I wholeheartedly agree. I have a massive soft spot for Cometa and also cannot understand why they aren't more popular. The shot cycle as you've mentioned is superb and even the plastic trigger can be set up to shoot beautifully.
      Yeah we abandoned testing there and then... it was a bit ridiculous to say the least! We ended up delaying the video due to weather issues which unfortunately ran on for longer than I'd like but the end result was worth it... at least that's what I'd like to think.
      Thanks Graham!

    Nice to see the Big Dan show on again! You’ve ignited an interest for me in .25’s and that Cometa does look beautiful! Glancing quickly past the plastic trigger that is. I’ll keep an eye on your website and when I’m in funds, sort out an RFD transfer . I know what people say about sub 12ftlb .25’s but with that energy retention I don’t care if it’s like a mortar at distance. The shock of that hitting a kill zone is lights out. My go to rifle is a HW 99s in .22 and the barrel really likes 18gr h&n baracudas. It shoots them very accurately and doesn’t complain via severe recoil or twang more than a 15. So It’ll be fun to go up a few grains and mm’s- exciting! At the mo, even the Hatsan .25’s are not in stock anywhere.

    • @bigdansairguns83
      @bigdansairguns83  Рік тому +2

      Hi Roland!
      The 99s is a cracking little rifle, pretty little monster too.
      I was enlightened too I won't lie. I wasn't expecting it to shoot that well beyond 40 yards and definitely didn't expect it to crumple the way it did (didn't that final shot give the target a wallop too!). The Hatsan's are nice rifles that Striker we did a review on was brilliant fun. I genuinely think that if more people tried .25's they'd convert.. with lighter pellets (Marksman are around 19grn) the velocity isn't far off of a .22, yet you have all of that surface area screaming down range. Great stuff!

    Dan .25 is a fantastic cal as you have seen very underrated but also devastating out to all 12ftlb hunting ranges. They need to have this rifle in .25 at 12ftlbs it's a know brainer, I am so glad you give this cal a more in depth review.

      I'm glad you enjoyed the review mate it had to be done. I'm just glad that Cometa gave us the opportunity to get a proper quality .25 into the UK. I've spoken with my suppliers and we should hopefully have more coming in with the next order they make. More people need to try .25's and see that they aren't the mortars that many make out.
      Thanks Robert!

      @@bigdansairguns83 100% Dan once you have a .25 in your collection and you give it a proper go you soon realise just how good they are. You can tune them so they hardly move in your shoulder because they make the power very easily being such a big bit of lead. I also find that if your pellets are a bit tight get an adjustable pellet sizer and lube your pellets, it can transform your accuracy. I have a hw80 in .25 and when I do my bit 50 yard touching groups are no problems I know people who can even push it further but I keep most of my hunting as close as I can get it's regardless of calibre.

I shot a fly on 10 m once then i was aiming in the scoope. When i shoot on target paper i use a card-bore-box and tape this on, or just make a mark on the box! Its perfect, its stuck on the ground and no problems with the wind!And eseay too see every singel hit on the paper!

    Hi Dan. I have had a few .25 cals. I like the Cometas because of the massive air chamber that`s why they shoot soo sweet. Years ago I had a cometa 300 and some ox springs I put in one and a half ox springs in it and it put out 22 ft lb. They are so de-tuned for UK 12 ft lb laws. I sold it to a Bloke with an FAC. The one thing I have noticed is with .25 cal is apart from pellet drop is the speed. I had loads of Rats move before impact like they hear the pellet coming. You don`t get it in .22 or.177. The .25 cal is Devastating on Rats a good head shot sends them spinning around. And the sound of the impact is one hell of a pop and the skull is shattered.

    Good one Dan , this rifle actually amazed Me , I've never used or even seen used a .25 other than on YT mostly American higher power models and they appear to work well with a bit more grunt , but the lower power models have been a bit disappointing in accuracy terms especially the few springers I've seen , this Cometa destroys the myth that .25 in 12 FT/LB rifle is only a 10 -20 yard gun , with practice it could be a genuinely usable 25/30 yard gun with the reasonable degree of confidence in a successful one shot kill . Well done Cometa I am genuinely impressed especially with the 40+ yard accuarcy and power . There was only one nit pick about the video and its easy for Me to find out , but You forgot to tell us the price . Some good shooting there at 40+ and You know I love Springers so, Thanks Dan looking forward - as always to the next video Shoot Straight Stay Safe & Stay Well .

    Compacts look a bit odd & i was initially concerned about accuracy but how wrong i was! What an excellent gun. And the clear demonstration of energy transfer at distance was a real shocker. I love the Compacts... but my personal favourite is actually the Fenix Carbine. The barrel is a tad longer than the Compacts and feels more like a full sized rifle but it's still lighter than most.
      Haha off camera originally I was concerned too! First tin of pellets I tried was Superdome as the Cometa barrel usually loves RWS but they were awful.. JSB weren't much better and I thought "oh dear this isn't going to be good". The others though? Absolutely spot on!! As my customer said I should've tried the Daystate .25's... 1/4" groups at 25 meters! Superb!
      The energy surprised me too, as I mentioned I expected the pellets to not do much beyond 40 yards but it practically blew the target over with that final shot! Brilliant fun!

    Hi Dan.........Thanks for sharing.........I got this rifle in .177 recently and I am mightily impressed with it.....I know you always mention the plastic trigger and guard, but as you have pointed out it is a really good trigger. I don't see any point in Cometa changing this for a metal trigger and guard, as at this price range it is likely to be nothing special. Cometa are not going to put polished brass or alloy parts in this price range........Most of us would buy aftermarket parts if we could find a brass, or polished alloy trigger guard....... Be nice if a guard and trigger could be found at a reasonable price. I don't think that paying close to £110.00 for a brass trigger and guard is reasonable.........I am considering doing the CAD job on this and pricing a tooling cost for the trigger and guard. If I could sell enough of both trigger and guard together for around £40.00 to £50.00 and break even I would be content.

    Interesting vid , seems the .25 is gaining in popularity , there's a few vids on the tube testing/shooting .25 ( search back a few years for vermin hunter tv channel with the weihrauch .25 / sub12 springer ) in my opinion IF ( and its a big IF ) there's some sort of lead ban , this calibre will be the new .22 ...and as things stand the .177 will be history .. ( 6grn lead free ??????? ) it'll sell , mark my words .. even if there's no lead ban .. people like experimenting , and its cheap enough to experiment with ... and short distance rat shooting ( 25 - 30 mtrs ) ideal ..

    Excellent, young Dan. Wish I'd seen this video last year; I suppose they've all sold out now, have they?
    Nice shooting too, given the calibre, conditions, and distance. I love the idea behind break barrel .25's. In 2006, I worked and lived in Finland for 10 months, and while there, had the use of a .25 Theoben Eliminator that was, for some undiscovered reason, doing just 17 - 18 ft lbs., and it was the best air rifle hunting and recreational shooting tool I've ever used. I was going to try and depressurise it and bring it home to the UK, but at crunch time, my arse went, and I left it there. 👍🏻

      @bigdansairguns83  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi Barry! They're not sold out as luckily my suppliers saw the potential with these and they're now a permanent addition to the Cometa line up! Mission accomplished!
      I agree Barry, the hunting potential for .25 break barrels is immense. They're easier to cock and smoother to shoot than both .177 and .22 and hopefully as the review has shown they can be shot at longer ranges despite the common consensus.
      I bet you regretted leaving that Eliminator! Cracking rifles I'd love to get my mitts on one. The closest I've got in sub 12 was a good friend of mine who has a HW90 with the Theoben ram and it shoots absolutely beautifully.

      I agree there's a massive lack of love to lefties these days and although these are definitely shootable for a left handed shooter it still isn't massively ideal.
      Whinge away Martyn it's the best way to get change! I'll pass it on to my suppliers.

    Lovely rife Dan, my brother as got a hw 97 in 25cal sub 12 and it's amazing for hunting the drop doesn't bother me it's a air rifle all have alot of drop! But it's the killing power for me it's got so much more stopping power then a 22cal on pigeons rats but on rabbits is where its best sometimes even a good head shot on a bunny will not do the job properly in 22 at sub 12 power but the 25cal kill them even time , I'm a pest controller and deer stalker and I love the 25cal!! I've got a theoben rapid fac 25cal running 44lbs and it's just amazing what it can do at that power way better then a 22 rimfire and kills better , I m putting a 25cal barrel on my hw80 soon sub 12 I'm very excited will be perfect, and if anyone wants to see what a 25cal sub 12 rifle can do look at vermin hunters tv on UA-cam, the drop is part of air rifle shooting that's what makes it interesting and fun is the challenge ! , we need more 25s , can you do a review on the lam gas ram one please I want one of them 🙏, try h&n ftt 25cal pellets mate very good 👍🏻

      Fantastic comment and that Rapid will be one amazing tool! The uncle had one on his ticket at 40ft-lbs in .22 and what a rifle!
      We do plan on reviewing the Gas Ram .25 but that'll be after the Kral Empire XS review and the Webley Patriot.. also .25!
      We need to show people that .25's are far more capable than advertised.

    • @bigdansairguns83
      @bigdansairguns83  Рік тому +1

      Hi Rehman!
      Both are as good as each other in my experience. The 400 is heavier which can dull the recoil a bit but the carbines have faster lock times which balances it out a bit. Both are as good as each other it mainly comes down to preference.
      I personally prefer the Carbines as they have silencers instead of the plastic funnel at the end of the barrel.

    I have two BSAs in .25, a Supersport which has a really tight barrel (some say BSA used .243 rifle blanks), that can only use the Marksman pellets or resized FTTs, and an Ultra SE, which loves the H&N FTT. My one concern with .25 is what will happen to it if there's a lead ban, I've seen a video with some lead free alternatives and they were ricocheting dangerously :( Until then though, it's a most underrated calibre.

    • @bigdansairguns83
      @bigdansairguns83  Рік тому +1

      Hi Rob!
      You're not the first person I've spoken to in regards to .25 BSA's having very tight barrels. Have you tried 25grn Air Arms pellets? They seem to fit perfectly in the Cometa breech.
      Lead free with .25 is a blessing and a curse for the reasons you've mentioned. On the up side a .25 size pellet travelling at 560fps is fantastic. On the downside a .25 pellet travelling at 200fps back at you not so much! Thanks Rob!

    • @bobthebarsteward
      @bobthebarsteward Рік тому

      @@bigdansairguns83 Hi Dan, I believe it's the older BSAs which have the tight barrels, the Ultra doesn't feel like it has any problems with the larger pellets. There used to be a .25 Rhino pellet which was actually made in the smaller (.243) size but sadly they're collectors items now. I bought a pellet sizer from T R Robb to squeeze the more available modern pellets down, but before I had a chance to fully evaluate it the Ultra SE came up at a price I couldn't refuse, and though it's not giving the full 12 ft/lbs it's a great gun and I may be sending it off to the Ratworks for a tune.

      Hi Ed!
      They only make them to my knowledge with their own cold hammer forged barrel although the barrels can be removed easily enough if you wanted to install another (once it had been finished properly of course).
      To be fair their own barrels are fantastic, easily on par with HW and Walther. We actually have a customer changing the barrel on his Anschutz for a Cometa unit. You can't get much better praise than that!
